I wish I could find an explanation for this online, but why do the etched lines on Cap's shield change between movies? Is it just an overlay on the basic shield? If it is, I feel like it'd get damaged and fall off in battle haha

This is supposed to be an entirely new shield from the one destroyed in Endgame. They haven't explained if the new etchings mean anything.

Wait, I thought it was supposed to be the same shield, but repaired? And the visual differences were just to denote the fact that it had been repaired-but-not-quite-the-same?

Is this basically a repaint of the first cap shield?

No, it looks like there's more sculpted detail on this one compared to the original.

So we now have basically three versions (sculpt-wise) of full-size Marvel Legends Cap shield:

that normal version you've shown that got rereleased recently with more comic-style colors, with some movie-style detail but not full-on;

the metal version that had the full movie-style detail;

and this new version that also has full details, but of the new version from Endgame onwards instead of the original version.
