Playmates TMNT Movie Stars Set
|
Playmates saw the bootleg sets coming from China and thought "hey, we can do that with the same level of quality and at triple the price!"

As for these official re-releases, I have to say that I'm disappointed. The plastic color, the legs, Leo's bandana tails, and the accessories are all wrong. I could excuse some of those problems since the molds are 20 years old and some have either been lost or degraded. But there's no excuse for the colors to be that far off. These new Movie Star Turtles are using a color scheme similar to the 2012 animated figures instead of the 1992 Movie Star figures. There are plenty of online resources that Playmates could've matched the plastic colors to be pretty close to the original figures. https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/u...ar-Set-008.jpg http://www.tmnttoys.com/92figures/movie/movie.jpg https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PdXMDWCFN...0/IMG_7621.JPG |
These look laughably bad. They really do look like bad bootlegs. I know Playmates holds the license and makes a percentage off what NECA's toys sell for anyway, but everytime they release one of these retro sets it feels like it is just their out-of-touch reaction to how popular NECA's toys are and their pathetic attempt to cash in on that TMNT collector craze too with their much inferior toys.

I was so excited for these. I have the originals open, but I wanted a set closed. I have been waiting for these to happen.....I don’t know what to say. I think I’ll let Michael speak for me....and perhaps many of us.

These things look creepy. Not in a good way, either.

They look ok. But not loving it.

These will be better quality, material and paint wise, than the bootlegs- I purchased the Playmates TMNT Comic Book figure set recently, and the quality is solid.
Half of these figures look good- Leo, Donnie, and Super Shredder look good; Mikey and Raph are strangely colored, and the Splinter is just... odd. I wonder how much of the original tooling for TMNT figures still exists? I've wondered why they don't do repaints of rare figures, like Scratch, Shoate, etc., but keep reissuing common figures- maybe they simply don't have the tooling anymore. |
Playmates is totally lost right now.

"They're covered in eyeballs. Why?"
My cousin after looking at these. Mikey looks fine but WTF at it really looking like they are covered in eyeballs? |
That isn't even movie Splinter!
