Batman Beyond Shriek Pre-Order
|
I'm pleasantly surprised that I can buy a Shriek without the BAF parts.

Why is no one complaining to McFarlane about the change from art to "toy art" on the cards/packaging? :/ No one wants to see that & it was much more collector premium feel with art (if only McFarlane himself did all the art) but even what they had was working. This clashes with the others & looks tacky. Let's tell him if your with me.
The toy itself looks good though, always loved watching that show when it was on Fox. |
I am torn on my feelings of the redesign. Of course I pre-ordered it anyway, because I am a damn toy loving fool! :)
|
Always great to see new Batman Beyond stuff!
So are the figures identical except for the BAF parts? (It looks like it from the pics) |
|
Wait so is the unmasked version NOT an exclusive? Because that would be great, since I prefer Shriek without the mask on especially with regards to his later appearances in the cartoon series.

I'm gonna say it now and may regret it, but it is my own opinion. This is a skeevy move on McFarlane's part to sell what is essentially an extra head and a set of different effect parts for a full $20 more. I get it, you get the version you want, or get both, or just don't buy, and so forth. But if the issue was literally about needing to ask for more to get a complete figure in a box instead of having to double dip, I'd have gladly paid an extra $5 for it.

For better or worse, McFarlane's goal is to spread the cost of development out over multiple releases so he can keep the line as unique molds for each character at $20 for basic and $25 for BAF versions. Unlike Hasbro and NECA, he hasn't been reusing the parts on different characters (which is how those companies keep their costs what they are). Is it ideal? Not at all. But it's why you're only paying $20 to $25 and not $30+ per figure. |
I thought the masked version was the variant?
Target's website lists the mask version as having the BAF part and being $24.99 and their exclusive, and the unmasked one as the general release at $19.99. So is each store going to have an exclusive that has the BAF part, and the standard releases won't have the BAF parts? I'm confused. |
Figures with the BAF parts are the regular versions (where applicable). The figures without the BAF parts are considered the variants.

If that's there goal then they going about it in a very anti consumer way. Its one of the worst options Mcfarlane could have taken. That alternate head is not worth $5+. Just like Flashpoint Batman, the head should have been included with the basic figure. The perfect option was right there. One box is a BAF exclusive to target and the other is wide release. Both could have come with the alt head. Mcfarlane is other options to entice variants but not do in a shameful way. They've already been reusing the Superman infected mold for other Superman characters. How about their chase figures. Instead of making one per box, offer more(with more sensible colors) like they do with Mortal Kombat. They could have done a Shriek with inverted colors where they get all the heads. The customer should go "I already order the normal figure but those alt colors are awesome too". They shouldn't feel ripped off like Mcfarlane is doing with these alt heads/hands. Quote:
Though in this case the BAF is a Target exclusive with the non BAF being the figure everyone else is getting. So the BAF is the variant this go round. |
Will other stores carry this?
Mcfarlane has my head spinning at this point. I don’t know what is where and when and what version. |

Everyone else get's the unmasked head. |
Only the Target exclusive Shriek with the BAF includes the helmet? Earlier solicits showed the non-exclusives were also helmeted. So did this change or is there a third version?
|
So even if I pay $5 extra for the Target exclusive with BAF parts I don't want I'm still not getting a complete Shriek.
Is the market for loose McDC figures fair? Or am I better off just ordering through Target? |
There are only two versions of Shriek. Target made a mistake when they listed the standard $20 version of the figure.
The Target exclusive comes with the helmeted head and one energy effect. The regular release comes with the unmasked head and two energy effects that are different from the Target exclusive. $24.99 Target Exclusive https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/u...e-Toys-001.jpg $19.99 Standard Release https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/u...Shriek-002.jpg |
Oh nice! I prefer the unmasked head in this case since I'm not a big fan of how his helmet was redesigned in the comics.
