Great photos. They knocked it out of the park.
Great comparison pics. I still have my Sideshow Frankenstein but it might be time to replace it.

I can't wait to see more figures in this line and see how far it goes beyond the Mummy, Wolfman, and Dracula figures they've already confirmed. Hopefully they finish out the main roster with Bride of Frankenstein, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man, and Phantom of the Opera, but beyond that it's probably unlikely they also tackle non-monster characters like Dr. Frankenstein, Van Helsing, or Dr. Pretorious. The line would have to be hugely popular and sell well enough to keep expanding into secondary characters or sequel monsters and sadly I see NECA quitting after they do the big names that would sell best.

But what I'm really curious to see is what all they have planned for Hammer Horror. It's strange that they haven't teased anything or even mentioned it on Twitter yet ever since first announcing last year that they got the license. I will be so ecstatic to get a Peter Cushing Dr. Frankenstein or Van Helsing, or Christopher Lee's Dracula, Mummy, and Frankenstein monster. The prospects of those from NECA excite me more than their Universal Monsters. It's a dream line for me since I don't think anyone has ever done Hammer action figures before.

On a semi related note, I wish they'd do a Vincent Price figure to scale with these. I don't think anyone has ever done a figure of him. Similarly I'd love a Roddy McDowell Peter Vincent figure from 1985's Fright Night, as that character was the best part of that film and his name was a nod to both Peter Cushing and Vincent Price. A line based on Young Frankenstein would be awesome too

Tracer 05-31-2021 11:59 AM

Yeah definitely would like to see the Universal Phantom of the Opera, Creature of the Black Lagoon, and Bride of Frankenstein.

Really hoping for Hammers Draculas Brides and The Gorgon (Medusa)

Then of course (Lee) Dracula vs (Cushing) Van Helsing

Boogieman4hire 05-31-2021 12:14 PM

I'm really glad with how this actually turned out in production. I feel like the earlier photos had worse paint on the faces and overdone red washes so it's nice to see how great the final result was. I definitely want him. He's light years ahead of the Diamond Select figure.

80sforged 05-31-2021 12:49 PM

Great photos, not sure how I feel about the colored one... Does make the Mezco one look tempting. Biggest gripe is the wrists. Looks like you will have to position the hands just right to make them more flush with the wrists.

I hope they do black and white releases of all of the classic monsters.

SuperWeird 05-31-2021 12:58 PM

Pro-tip: Mary Shelley, who wrote Frankenstein, was the daughter of the famous feminist Mary Wollstonecraft who wrote the book "The Vindication of the Rights of Women", and of William Godwin, the godfather of anarchism and the first to write about it in his book "Enquiry Concerning Political Justice".

Regarding this NECA Frankenstein figure, I'm stoked for this whole line. NECA is my go-to source for horror figures and they always deliver.

Back in 2002, NECA released a Vincent Price 1/6 Scale Figure. That was before NECA became more focused on specific scales, and was just kind of doing random stuff. They haven't done a 7" or 8" version though.

They've previously mentioned doing Black and White versions, and the Black and White Frankenstein's Monster is up for pre-order now.

"Boris Karloff"!!! =^)

NECA Frankie should do well...
Nice Pic's too..

That face with the derp look on it makes me wish somebody would do a Munsters line. Reminds me so much of Herman Munster there.

DST released a pretty comprehensive line of Munsters figures a few years back. The secondary market prices on those has shot up though.

Wow had no idea NECA ever did 1/6 stuff.

Prior to the Cult Classic launch, their releases were a bit all over the place. They weren't much of an action figure company until half of McFarlane's crew quit and went to NECA. When they began doing more figure, they did do a lot of 12" figures, but most of those were fully sculpted.

ShabbyBlue 06-01-2021 07:59 AM

Yeah that's why a lot of the early NECA figures looked like they came from McFarlane... similar sculpt quality and pre-posed statues with little to no articulation. Their minimal effort with the Ghostbusters line is a good example, along with the Conan movie figures. I wish they could have got another shot at doing Conan with their current level of articulation/facial likenesses. The Super 7 versions just aren't that impressive since they are stupidly using the overly buff He-Man Classics bodies which is all wrong for a movie accurate body type.

Joe Moore 06-01-2021 08:33 AM

When the McFarlane team moved over to NECA, their original goal was to use Cult Classics to fill out the Movie Maniacs style releases, which McFarlane wanted to move away from in favor of sports figures. They wanted to keep that close in style. As they moved away from those style releases, they began to add more articulation.

scarrviper 06-01-2021 09:20 AM

He looks impressive, this might be the most detailed version of the monster released to date. I'm not the biggest fan of the film, so I won't be going out of my way to get him, but if I see him in store I might pick one up for the horror collection. The character is certainly an icon.

juggernaut209 06-01-2021 10:10 AM

I want to get the core monsters at least from this line (the monster, Dracula, Wolfman, the mummy), but I'm still conflicted as to whether I want the B&W or colorized versions. I keep going back and forth, and really don't need both sets. If I come across this figure in the wild, I bet the temptation is strong enough that I take it home, and then I guess colored versions it is.

Those look pretty good, but what is with that B&W gift set, Eddie must have been hit by puberty something fierce.

It’s just a photoshopped collage. That’s not the height of the figure.

Before seeing the color version, I thought I'd be B&W all the way, but the color version came out terrific looking.

Makes it look a lot more tempting. Thanks for the photo.

My feelings exactly... I'd love to see both color and B&W preview images of another figure or two before I make the decision.

I will be adding the Frankenstein Monster to my collection but he seems undersized like the 1st DTS release. The later DTS Son of Frankenstein is a great figure of fitting height. NECA Frankenstein seems too tiny compared to DTS Wolfman v2.

The Munsters from DST are awesome.
