McFarlane to Produce DC Direct Items for Warner / DC
|
Wait...whaaaaaat??? So we can expect more BTAS?? Yesss!!
|
They didn't mention that specifically. BUT, they did mention figures along with statues and busts. So IF BTAS from DCD was going to continue, this would be the way to do it.
This is hope, just nothing concrete. |
I agree it would be great if they continued BTAS (and the whole DCAU!)
|
Can he use this as a reset on animated stuff? That would be great if so.
|
Let me get this straight: he co-created Image so he didn't have to deal with Marvel & DC, created McFarlane Toys because Mattel wasn't up to his standards, and now... McFarlane Toys isn't just making product for the company he left, and in place of another company he left, but now also in place of another company that was created to compete in the marketplace he cemented
Whatever anyone may think of the man, this is an epic slow motion mic drop thirty years in the making. How giddy do you think he gets thinking about this? Anyway! I'm hoping that this will allow for more expansive themed lines, like the B:TAS stuff, where we can get more than just a wave of matching characters. And assuming they're keeping the higher price point, that should help smooth over licensing deals for actors, right? |
I’m in for the BTAS line if they continue that. Hopefully, they’re marrying DC Direct’s designs/sculpting with McFarlane’s QC.

He's faltered a whole helluva lot over the years (Gaiman, anyone?) but I also think that he's closer to what he set out to do than what he tried to escape from |

I'm sure Mirrorverse came out of showing he can do that with a big IP. And that will further cement relationships with big box, aka volume. Bringing factory costs down, and allowing him to do Spawn and other things cheaper and get them picked up. Big circle. I also don't see it as a step backwards - he's doing what he wants to do and making money with the DC brand. He's not just working for scraps for someone else, he's in control of his space and making coin. I would think that was the goal with Image and everything else he did early on. That's my best guess. Or, just straight up - he likes money more than being a rebel, which is ok too. :) |
I love how everyone's going "we're getting more animated figures! Yes!" when that wasn't even mentioned in the press release (that I'm sure everyone read thoroughly) at all. If we get more animated figures I don't see why-outside of any prototypes that were made-it would be in the previous scale.
All this sounds like is an excuse to overproduce more Batman and Harley Quinn merchandise, which is probably one of the reasons why DC Direct went out of business in the first place. Maybe DC and WB aren't aware of this but, as a big DC Comics fan, I already own multiple versions of those characters. Maybe it's time to try something else. |
Not celebrating this. I collect 6 inch figures and have for many years. McFarlane made it clear he's not marketing his toys to collectors and is not interested in making his products in scale with any of the 1:12 lines. Poor decision on DC's part.

I would LOVE to get a Batmobile from The New Batman Adventures. It's my favorite Batmobile design of all time. Make it happen McFarlane. And make it AWESOME. |
I wanna see the Lucadore stuff come out. Let's hope. Not sure if anybody remembers it from Toy Fair 2019 I think. I'm glad BTAS us continuing in the D.C. Collectibles style because the McFarlane versions were disproportionate.
|
Giving us hope, but McFarlane doesn't usually do stuff in 6 inch scale.
Not to mention their first mentions are of course Harley Quinn and Batman. We have ENOUGH of those two. I wish Poison Ivy and Scarecrow got as many figures as those two. |

PLEEEEAAAASE let them release a 1:1 scale Kyle GL battery! Or even a classic Kyle figure.

Outside of certain re-releases, the only DCD figure line I see McFarlane continuing is the Batman The Adventure Continues/DCAU. In DCC/DCD's last couple of years, their figures mainly consisted of DC Essentials and DCAU. The Essentials aren't needed with McFarlane Multiverse line which leaves DCAU.
Overall though, I think this deal is mainly for producing statues. During the DCD booth walk-throughs at conventions, the bulk of their product seemed to be statues rather than figures. And with places like Walmart carrying QMX figs and Diamond Select busts, I think we could see some DCD statues/busts at retail stores. |
I prefer the 7inch line over 6 inch any day. People have these dreams of Scaling their Legends with DCUC and it ain't happening.
I love bigger figs. Bigger the figs, the more details. I would prefer 1/6 scale if I could afford all of them. McFarlane needs to re-do the Animated series line. DCC had terrible articulation points, the legs were terrible. McFarlane does the ball hips or dumber and it looks way better. Bring it on. McFarlane deserves this license....but please no more Batman's for a while. |
If someone thinks they're not gonna milk Batman, I've got some magic beans to sell them.
|
I hope he gets more money to explore the dc universe
