When did "statues" become "figures"?

It's technically the correct term; a "figure" is always static in nature.

What you mean is an action / articulated figure. It's just that all of them are classified as "figures" and we expect them to be articulated when we're talking toys.

In fact the term "statue" might actually be wrong, although there's no real rule for it the "statues" that are sold by Prime1Studio and stuff are too small to be called statues. A statue is the big kind displayed in public or museums and such, anything that’s smaller than a human should be called a "figure".

We just assume “figure” means articulated and “statue” means static because that’s how most brands advertise their products.
