Marvel Fan First Monday 8/9/21 - Fantastic Four Retro

Little late today, sorry bout that.

Nice. Hasbro definitely planned the release of this Fantastic 4 wave to coincide with the Haslab Galactus campaign. Smart move on their part. Can't have one without the other.

Mommar 08-09-2021 09:31 AM

That Susan Storm has got to be THE ugliest head sculpt they have ever done.

jscott991 08-09-2021 09:34 AM

They've done three Sue Storms in recent years, and they just keep looking worse.

That head sculpt is unbelievably bad. Why not just use the old Walgreens' one?

It's pretty bad I have to agree. Thankfully there's an invisible variant.

IzzyTipsy 08-09-2021 10:10 AM

Sue looks terrible, and I thought they had a new female buck with more articulation in it?

Mr. Fantastic also looks like a Peter Parker I have. Stop reusing faces!

emeraldnite 08-09-2021 10:13 AM

While I really want that Nova figure--that flame base would definitely look amazing with my Dark Phoenix figure.

Dolemite 08-09-2021 10:22 AM

Yeah, I've gotta chime in that Sue has a really hideous face sculpt. Ugh.

zonedweeby 08-09-2021 10:35 AM

disagreed about the Sue Storm head. Hasbro's sculptor has been using the same face for female comic characters for years. at least this one looks like a unique person.

i'm just disappointed that Torch doesn't look more like his classic self. Hasbro just can't seem to figure him out.

ARK72Wayne 08-09-2021 10:40 AM

Fantastic wave! I will also add that for years I follow Toyark; read the comment session and never created an account, but after that "Invisible Keren" face sculpt? No! I had to participate in this discussion! I for curiosity change the head for her Wallgreens face sculpt, just to see... To me, it's better, not perfect but definitely an improvement. They had ONE JOB...

PS: since I'm new I can't post the image but here it is: h ttps : // imgur.com /H5hlwAa

If someone veteran here can post the image above that would be awesome. :)

Harbinger 08-09-2021 10:50 AM

Sue has scrunchy, butterface syndrome. Love high evolutionary but he coulda used a bit more detailing on the head. Pissed that hasbro made the xforce set online only again. Shoulda been in stores.

Think there's a happy place between reusing the same head sculpt w/ minor tweaks for the 34th time and making a brand new one that's just objectively subpar.

This Sue head looks like an early Hasbro ML head with severe QC issue tbh.

That said, just slap on one of the other Sue heads from earlier. Would work for now.

Yeah, a 90's inspired fake X-Men set with B, C and D-Listers doesn't scream "peg warmer" at all.

Hasbro's far from perfect but thank god they don't listen to the "hasblo is terrible unless they do exactly what I want" crowd.

IzzyTipsy 08-09-2021 12:44 PM

Storm 2-pack also pegwarmed for awhile.

It'd probably sell better than stuff like Disney+ US Agent which is pegwamrs.

Thankfully I have a ton of heads from females that should work. ;)

The reality is that more things peg-warm than don't nowadays. As a previous poster pointed out, sometimes even things collectors expect to be coveted languish on the shelves. The only thing one can consistently rely upon currently, outside of snark on the internet, is the fickle and capricious nature of consumers.

The only two packs in recent memory that were truly difficult to come by imo, exclusivity also playing a role, were the Spidey/Mary Jane and Cyclops/Dark Phoenix. Even considering that, I was able to nab two of each in my local TRU - RIP.

Boogieman4hire 08-09-2021 01:27 PM

That Sue head is .... not great. Not horrible just definitely needed some work. The hair looks way too much like a wig and I think she looks like Renee Zellweger. A younger Renee but I felt like the photo above captured the strange expression on the sculpt. My ideal would be something like Pat Priest AKA Marilyn Munster but c'est la vie. I bet heist Nebula's head would go perfectly if repainted. At least for now I have a CLEAR option between the two.https://munsters.com/wp-content/uplo...compressed.jpg

EvilMonkeyPope 08-09-2021 02:06 PM

Domino's asymmetrical headgear looks wrong even if there may be one issue it's accurate to.

It's a must-buy for me (and, I must assume, for all those guys keeping the Rob Liefeld Cable ML selling well above MSRP on the secondary market).

The only figure from that wave that I ever saw pegwarming was Captain Falcon. :p

Those sets pegwarmed for ages in Canadian TRUs...so much so that I never prioritized actually getting them and so was taken by surprise when they suddenly liquidated the remaining stock.

Indeed. It just doesn't look right.

You did not hear this from me, but routinely when things start to peg warm AND go on discount, certain employees are encouraged by Hasblow to buy the stock up.

I too miss TRU. Not having a kids store to take kids to is a bummer. It wasn't just a great place to take kids, the TRU in Times square(I think times square or around there) you can take girls there, especially good girls and buy them STUFFED animals and they will allow you to do the same...wink..wink

A uniquely ugly squinch-faced person. I'm all for better, more defined headsculpts between characters, but they actually did a much better job at doing that with the last Sue from the Super Skrull wave. This Sue here however is a swing and a miss.

ALPHA 08-09-2021 05:42 PM

Yeah... let's get this back on topic

Finally a wave I am excited for, will the Haslab exclusives be available in Canada? With Sue getting such a bad facesculpt I'll need 1 invisible!

Just for curiosity, this allows us to get an idea of how she would look if they kept her Walgreens face with the new hair.
