These look awesome. I can't wait to get these. I hope the QC is good. I wish we had better close up pics.

Comedian 10-29-2021 05:04 PM

Wait, what?

Are these going to be over $50 each just like everything else these days?

OriginalFire 10-29-2021 06:41 PM

Thanks for posting this. I thought I was the only person who saw this on a few Facebook groups :)

Darthmmule 10-30-2021 06:31 AM

Wow….

Looks great!
If only to make a custom figure of Matt Berry (think toast of London)using the guy on left….
You know, the one holding Skeletors staff….lol

Transposer 10-30-2021 11:56 AM

The green guy was an early Webstor concept and the barbarian is an early He-man. Then we have Keldor and a Panthor and Battle Cat helmet homage. Not sure about the genie though.

Yeah, the barbarian is this guy. Not sure how that works out with Mattel because unused concept iterations are typically still considered a company asset.

I can't post links, but you can see the Webstor concept art in his article on the Battleram blog. It's identical. Even the name Lords of Power harkens back to MOTU development. I wonder if Mattel had or will have any objection (I believe they have even used the Lords of Power name recently in the Origins line).

dCon 10-30-2021 03:32 PM

These are dope. Definitely like some "masterverse"*(tm) versions of that early like He-Man Barbarian figure, PanthorWoman, and the Teela with the removable helmet is damn cool too. $20 to $25 each & im game.

Onslaught Six 10-31-2021 02:27 AM

Formo owns the trademark outright, which has never been registered before. (It won't let me post links because I'm a new account, but you can search it on the US trademark website yourself.)

Remember, trademarks only cover names, not intellectual property, so there's nothing stopping them from using this name for their toyline.

Whether the designs are infringing on Mattel or not...that's up to them and how much they want to pursue it.

Personally I have no interest in a 5POA line that looks like it was made in the 80s when MOTU Origins style exists. Why can't they make these toys like those instead?

I believe the people working on this have worked with Mattel on MOTU in the past. So it might be just a case of Mattel showing some goodwill like they seemed to have done with the fourhorsemen and their mythic legions motu-homages.

Still though, Mattel have been mining early, unused concepts lately (Origins, Street Sharks) so it'll be interesting to see if these end up getting released.

Hey guys,

Peer from Formotoys here.
First of, thank you for your interest and your kind words.
I want to clearify something.
Marc is not doing any work for us (so far 😄), we got his blessing to use some of his great early designs.

Of course, for me as a fan and especially as Marks friend, it is a huge honor to play with his ideas.

Solrac333 10-31-2021 02:32 PM

Looks cool but without the modern articulations, these are a pass for me.

80sforged 10-31-2021 02:37 PM

Definitely interested. Really liking the designs.

Getting some 200X Count Marzo vibes off the villain.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope we see more pics. I am fine with the articulation. I know what its supposed to be and my Origins stuff has articulation but it doesn't do much at the end of the day. Really looking forward to this stuff and perhaps, for another toy line you guys can do some TMNT kind of characters. The designs for Lords of Power are amazing. How did you get to use the name Lords of Power?

Grazellka 11-01-2021 07:05 AM

For the story we had in mind it made a lot of sense and when we found it wasn't registered, we puchased the trademark.
What we really want to try is to create toys that feel like a real 80s toy. That also explains the kind of articulation we chose. So yeah a little turtles-weirdness is something that might find its way into the line. It hast to blend into the anesthetics of the line.

Thanks so much :) Really looking forward to these and the new mythology.

They kinda are recognizable as MOTU characters in new forms - not-He-Man, white skinned Not-Keldor (even has the Havok staff), Not-Teela with a Battle Cat mask... but my favourite is the "What if Skeletor magically merged Evil-Lyn and Panthor" purple lady. :D

idontknow 11-05-2021 06:49 AM

if this was a line that people had been waiting for then i could see it but these unrecognizable action figure lines are just cash grabs flooding an already flooded market. I can't imagine they will make much

modern (hyper) articulation is probably my main regret about Mattel?s Origins line

80s design crudity is kinda the whole point of 5.5
