Never thought I'd say this, but that's an inch too much for me :D

IzzyTipsy 11-26-2021 08:26 AM

I think I'd still be in it just for that Joker, at least.

I'm amazed there aren't a ton of Nicholson Joker figures.

Freekazoo 11-26-2021 09:18 AM

Isn't the cowl the design from Batman Returns?

Doop 11-26-2021 09:48 AM

DC is really milking the Batman 89 license, lately. First, we got the NECA 12 inch scale, and now we're getting the Beast Kingdom 8 inch scale. Hopefully that means the McFarlane 6-7 inch scale is right around the corner, and us collectors, on a budget, can get in on the action.

Likeness right for Nicholson are reportedly extremely expensive.

It is. Good choice by Beast Kingdom.

Of all the companies finally willing to pay Nicholson's expensive likeness rights fee, it had to be one who is doing some weird 9" scale nobody wants. I want this Joker in the 6-7" scale. I keep hoping McFarlane will pursue it and not only do Joker, but Keaton Batman, Pfeiffer Catwoman, Devito Penguin and a Batmobile in that scale. Surely he knows these would sell really well.

Neca and McFarlane are CHEAP. There I said it. If Neca or mcfarlane had to charge $50 a figure for Jacks likeness, we would lineup with wallets open. He is worth every penny. The could get at least 5 different figures out of his likeness.

Long has the lack of a uniformed scale of Burton figures haunted me. Even the Schumacher films are gaining nostalgia. The Adam west series has had the mego series in 8 inch, Neca in 7 inch mattel and McFarlane in 6 inch, funko and mezco in 3.75 inch. The Nolan movies have them in ever scale possible. Yet almost nothing for 1989,1992,1995 and 1997.

Oh absolutely, if they did the 18' Nicholson Joker I could even see them charging $200 and people would pay! I don't even care for Nicholson's Joker and I'd be tempted!

Yup. I don't know why every single '89 Batman figure has to screw up something integral to the costume, but every one does, and it's kept me from getting any of them

Say whaaaa? When it is ever a good choice to mess up a likeness?

its true and i m with you. But with McF, I m just not very optimistic about the likeness of them although how badly can you mess their faces when half and more is covered by a mask (?). Well, hopefully, if they do take the license they wont mess it up too badly.

Because the Returns cowl improves on the '89 cowl while still essentially being the same design. Its basically an idealized version of the '89 cowl.

The '92 cowl may be a touch more refined, but there are plenty of differences. The organic clavicle doesn't mesh with the more angular face, the scallops no longer align with the cape, and it has a totally different silhouette. The "bat cowl stretched over a thumb" look changes the character's posture from stoic to stiff

I'll be upfront: as much as I love Steve Wang, I kind of hate the Returns suit, cowl included. But this isn't about personal preferences at all, it's about fidelity and this cowl is inappropriate. I mean, would you be chill with a Tech Noir Arnie sporting a Genisys headsculpt, or Jedi Luke coming with Vader's saber because you prefer the color red?

The Returns cowl took everything good about the '89 cowl and made it better tho. It's pretty much the closest they got to replicating how he looks in the comic (obvious color differences aside). It fit a lot closer to Keaton's head this time giving him that iconic silhouette from the comics. The furrored brow is more pronounced, like the comics. And they gave it a lot of sharp angles that really give it that graphic comicbook look when backlit.
Love the cowl but actually dont like the suit and prefer the '89 suit. So yeah, I am more than ok with them mixing it up...even if its technically wrong.

If we're just doing what most people consider the better looking version instead of striving for accuracy, why even bother with Michael there? Drop Keaton's face entirely and put in Clooney!

deecee4 11-27-2021 05:39 PM

Yeah, I get it. But the reality is it's a Keaton Batman and most people arent going to notice anyway. Kind of like when we'd get an OT Darth Vader and he would have the Revenge of the Sith helmet.

Black Arbor 11-27-2021 07:13 PM

Maybe they'll release a Returns Batman with the 89 cowl hahaha

Or have every RoboCop figure be a mash-up of all the different suits and people just go "oh, he's a bit blue so it's RoboCop 2"... I get it. I also hate it. Especially since (if this figure does well) they'll inevitably make a Returns figure and end up shooting themselves in the foot because the most front and center part of the figure, the head, will be identical between them

Unless they do that, of course :D

Is it just me or do their legs seem really long?

evilekim 11-30-2021 07:00 AM

Neither of those figures look like authorized likenesses of Keaton or Nicholson IMO. As much as I love the movie, the scale and likeness will keep me from buying them. It is weird they used the Returns cowl too.

Freekazoo 11-30-2021 07:17 AM

No guns for Joker... Really, DC?

magma169 11-30-2021 07:40 AM

Keats is bearable, and i guess the likeness is off when viewed dead center but its acceptable from certain angles...... Jack Napier is atrocious though :/

Anybody knows how much these usually cost ?

its not just you. I also find myself somewhat annoyed at the shinier knee and elbow joints on Keaton.... kinda distracting.

dukefett 11-30-2021 07:41 AM

I'd get these just to have a Nicholson Joker. I'd prefer 1/12 or 1/6 even, but these don't look all too bad overall. I've had the Mezco Batman on preorder for what seems like two years now, I kind of doubt Mezco will be able to get the likeness but I would've said the same thing about Beast Kingdom haha.

They're not Hot Toys but I definitely see both of them in the sculpts.
