Hell ya. Getting the regular version for sure.

Raine24 11-29-2021 05:27 PM

Oh damn! I was remarking recently that I was disappointed NECA hadn't done anything with RoboCop in a while (thought they might have let the license lapse) but this is a pleasant surprise.

Weller's likeness must have cost a pretty penny to make the price jump up so much, seeing as how everything save the unmasked head and Auto-9 muzzle are re-uses. At least the battle-damaged version has some new tooling in both the chair and right thigh. :) (oops, nvm, it's the old BD body w/o opening holster)

MeLikeJinx 11-29-2021 05:28 PM

Look how big that tiny tv had to be... gotta love that bulky 80's tech aesthetic. Also sometimes I forget how big Peter Weller's forehead was.

SpasticPlastic 11-29-2021 05:29 PM

They always said they wouldn't do a Robocop Ultimate without Weller's likeness. Awesome that they got it.

Black Arbor 11-29-2021 06:00 PM

"I'd buy that for 40 dollars!"

Trivial Psychic 11-29-2021 07:50 PM

While I'm sure that these are reissues of that old Robocop body, I'm hoping that they'll at the very least improve the articulation in the arms. The older figure(s) had almost no bend at the elbow.

Really excited for the chair and the Weller headsculpts more than anything else, and am just excited for anything Robocop in general. Hopefully I can get the heads to work on my Hagane Works Robocop with minimal fuss, as he's still my go to...

Not only that, but the shoulders are articulated with single-peg ball-hinges that actually prevent the figure from assuming Robocop's iconic shooting stance:

Very surprised and happy about this reveal. I'll be getting both. I wonder if they'd do an Alex Murphy in cop outfit figure too

NECA's tweet said 'all new,' I never owned one so I don't have it to compare. I was assuming everything was new but I guess not?

Unless the old molds wore out and they tooled up new ones with all the same inaccuracies, everything except the chair, muzzle blast, and unmasked head are the same. Terminal strip fist is from the OG release, Cobra cannon from the "Non-Ultimate" version, and the battle-damage body has a solid right thigh (the spring-loaded holster was developed a couple years later) so that's the old tooling too. They didn't even get rid of the black neck seal at the top of the chest (so the unmasked look isn't quite right), another point toward total re-use.

Maybe the helmet is different, but I removed & trimmed all of mine to get them to sit right about five minutes after opening them, so I don't remember what they looked like originally.

I'm not surprised they didn't give the Auto-9 a magazine (it'd be a metal-off change, so pretty cheap) because that'd probably interfere with the holster, but it's weird they still haven't made a relaxed right hand. They've pumped out that same gun grip right for a decade now over, like... 9 different releases? 12? And he still doesn't have a natural-looking right hand for when you're actually using that fancy leg holster.

Not trying to be a downer, because this is awesome, I've been wanting pretty much this exact figure for almost my entire life, and I am absolutely getting both of them, but it's got a lot of inherited funkiness that I wish they'd do something about.

Leo Primus 11-30-2021 04:01 AM

The head is a definite improvement, but otherwise it appears to be the same oddly-proportioned figure from 10 years ago.

Comedian 11-30-2021 04:34 AM

Finally. His face. I will pick up both.

deecee4 11-30-2021 06:46 AM

When I saw this last night on big bad, I thought the chair was just a prop Neca used for pics, didnt realize it's coming with battle damaged robo, nice!

The new regular version has the spring loaded holster

IzzyTipsy 11-30-2021 07:51 AM

So the question is do I want to pay $40 for an unmasked head since I have the old ones already.

ynnek4 11-30-2021 09:04 AM

The face looks like it was pinched in Photoshop.

Awwww man. I hated that thing. Those panels are fragile as fuck.

Hey if all you could eat was baby food mush you’d have a pinched face too. ;)

Dolemite 11-30-2021 12:26 PM

No Clarence Boddicker figure? No RoboCain? Come on, NECA. Stop doing the main character from a license and nothing else.

Well, AT LEAST they made an ED-209, but I can't imagine that Kurtwood Smith's likeness rights are that expensive...

Yeah, doesn't look like they changed a fucking thing. Their RoboCop figures look great but the articulation is dogshit.

I mean, it's cool that he's coming with the Cobra Assault Cannon, but look at the pics...he can't even hold it properly. He can only point it straight ahead with one hand like an overgrown ReAction figure. Lame.

This would have been a great opportunity to do some re-tooling and improve the articulation, but NECA took the lazy way out. I honestly don't care about the Peter Weller likeness, as I prefer my Robo figures with the helmet on.

I have the spring-loaded holster Robo, and I think I'll just stick with that since this is the same exact figure. Although the chair and the Cobra Cannon ARE tempting...

NECA has a rep for regularly straight-up lying by claiming figures are "ALL NEW" when they're just blatant re-releases with a new accessory or two. They do it a lot with their Alien figures.

FYI, the cannon is a re-issue. If you can find a decent price on the deluxe Robo from a few years back you can nab it right now :)

scarrviper 11-30-2021 05:37 PM

I hate to say it, but I'm not impressed.

It's awesome that they finally got Peter Weller's likeness, but they did no articulation upgrades and the accessory count is really lacking for an ultimate release. Combine that with the crazy prices. That chair will probably end up being a fragile mess. I don't like being this negative about it, but I briefly owned a Neca ED209 reissue and it was brittle garbage.

I might pick up the standard version if I see it at Target or Walmart, but honestly I'll probably just stick with my Robocop 3 version.

And yes, we need Clarence, and his gang. Hell, Murphy and Lewis would be a great two pack.
