Hell ya. Getting the regular version for sure.
|
Oh damn! I was remarking recently that I was disappointed NECA hadn't done anything with RoboCop in a while (thought they might have let the license lapse) but this is a pleasant surprise.
Weller's likeness must have cost a pretty penny to make the price jump up so much, seeing as how everything save the unmasked head and Auto-9 muzzle are re-uses. At least the battle-damaged version has some new tooling in both the chair and right thigh. :) (oops, nvm, it's the old BD body w/o opening holster) |
Look how big that tiny tv had to be... gotta love that bulky 80's tech aesthetic. Also sometimes I forget how big Peter Weller's forehead was.
|
They always said they wouldn't do a Robocop Ultimate without Weller's likeness. Awesome that they got it.
|
"I'd buy that for 40 dollars!"
|
While I'm sure that these are reissues of that old Robocop body, I'm hoping that they'll at the very least improve the articulation in the arms. The older figure(s) had almost no bend at the elbow.
Really excited for the chair and the Weller headsculpts more than anything else, and am just excited for anything Robocop in general. Hopefully I can get the heads to work on my Hagane Works Robocop with minimal fuss, as he's still my go to... |

Very surprised and happy about this reveal. I'll be getting both. I wonder if they'd do an Alex Murphy in cop outfit figure too

Maybe the helmet is different, but I removed & trimmed all of mine to get them to sit right about five minutes after opening them, so I don't remember what they looked like originally. I'm not surprised they didn't give the Auto-9 a magazine (it'd be a metal-off change, so pretty cheap) because that'd probably interfere with the holster, but it's weird they still haven't made a relaxed right hand. They've pumped out that same gun grip right for a decade now over, like... 9 different releases? 12? And he still doesn't have a natural-looking right hand for when you're actually using that fancy leg holster. Not trying to be a downer, because this is awesome, I've been wanting pretty much this exact figure for almost my entire life, and I am absolutely getting both of them, but it's got a lot of inherited funkiness that I wish they'd do something about. |
The head is a definite improvement, but otherwise it appears to be the same oddly-proportioned figure from 10 years ago.
|
Finally. His face. I will pick up both.
|
When I saw this last night on big bad, I thought the chair was just a prop Neca used for pics, didnt realize it's coming with battle damaged robo, nice!

So the question is do I want to pay $40 for an unmasked head since I have the old ones already.
|
The face looks like it was pinched in Photoshop.

No Clarence Boddicker figure? No RoboCain? Come on, NECA. Stop doing the main character from a license and nothing else.
Well, AT LEAST they made an ED-209, but I can't imagine that Kurtwood Smith's likeness rights are that expensive... Quote:
I mean, it's cool that he's coming with the Cobra Assault Cannon, but look at the pics...he can't even hold it properly. He can only point it straight ahead with one hand like an overgrown ReAction figure. Lame. This would have been a great opportunity to do some re-tooling and improve the articulation, but NECA took the lazy way out. I honestly don't care about the Peter Weller likeness, as I prefer my Robo figures with the helmet on. I have the spring-loaded holster Robo, and I think I'll just stick with that since this is the same exact figure. Although the chair and the Cobra Cannon ARE tempting... Quote:

I hate to say it, but I'm not impressed.
It's awesome that they finally got Peter Weller's likeness, but they did no articulation upgrades and the accessory count is really lacking for an ultimate release. Combine that with the crazy prices. That chair will probably end up being a fragile mess. I don't like being this negative about it, but I briefly owned a Neca ED209 reissue and it was brittle garbage. I might pick up the standard version if I see it at Target or Walmart, but honestly I'll probably just stick with my Robocop 3 version. And yes, we need Clarence, and his gang. Hell, Murphy and Lewis would be a great two pack. |
