Now these are bad ass.

I am also guessing... they are going to be the same height as a Space Marine. I noticed no photos of them alongside Space Marines.

Jester 08-19-2022 09:07 AM

Gonna have to get more than a few of those AP Cadian Veterans, I think...

They're definitely going to be shorter than the Space Marines.

What put me off was that the Sororitas were the same size as Space Marines. For the Guardsman to be in scale with the Marines, I hope they would be around the 5.75 inch range. I think it would have been better if they did it around that size range and make the Marines 7" and it would be in an ok scale. Mc Farlane has some experience with that scale (their Walking Dead lines come to mind).

That would make no sense whatsoever. Space Marines are massive.

Looking ath the comparison photos, the scale is definitely going to be off. Especially since Primaris are suppsoed to be even larger than Firt Born. Joy Toys is having a similar issue looking at comparisons between the Marines and the Death Korps of Krieg they put out.

They're not, actually. The Battle Sister figures are roughly a head shorter than the Marines. Granted, it would be nice if they were shorter, but they're hardly the same size, and not too far off from the scaling in the 9th edition cinematic trailer:

6" Guardsmen and 7" Marines works fine for me. Not a huge fan of the more oversized Marine artwork.

Going by the proportions, the McFarlane Marines are First-Born in Primaris armour, not Primaris themselves.

Still seems off to me. If they started at a base of 5.75 inch scale, then did the marines at their current size that would work. Then do the Sororitas at about 6" or 6.25" as they would be 5.75 inch scale humans in powered armor. Used to Marines being around 7-8' tall and in powered armor. So 7-8" marines would work for me.

The Marines work perfectly fine with 6" scale humans.

You're all talking about size issues, and I get that (I personally still would have preferred if McFarlane would have stuck to the 6 inch scale instead of 7 inch).
But what bothers me is that the regular Guard figure is released in that artist grey format, which I don't buy. I would have preferred it the other way around or could McFarlane finally start adding alternate heads like everybody else does? :s

Would have been better if they swapped it it. Do the gasmak face for the artist proof, then do the plain face for the regular Guard. Would have been a nice touch if he has purple eyes to boot. Of course they can always re-use the mold to do a standard Cadian and do that.

You can't expect everything to be produced in 1/12th scale...

It's not a regular Guardsman. Both the coloured and artist proof version are Veterans, hence they're both packing gear that you wouldn't see with the average grunt, like the Wehrmacht-inspired "Kettenhunde" gorget, and the lasrifle with bipod and long-range optic sight. Furthermore, the masked version is one of the poster boys for the various class options in the upcoming Darktide game:

*edit*

Also, McFarlane Toys' Instagram page just revealed a third, Gamestop-exclusive variant of the Traitor Guardsman, this one with "Splinter Cell" style NODs, a laspistol and some kind of makeshift sword.

To be fair, scale issues are very authentic to the source material.

jestermon 08-19-2022 10:15 PM

I wasn't going to get the traitor guard but that crazy helmet made me get 2.

The normal color guardsman still isn't up.

The scale isn't a big issue, I'd rather have large figures instead of paying $19.99 for tiny guards.

moebiu22 08-20-2022 02:47 PM

Leave it up to Mcfarlane to once again make mystifying production decisions regarding this line. The best Guardsman is unpainted. Why? The Ogryn is more expensive yet customers have a choice of painted and unpainted with that one. If it wasn't for the price of these I wouldn't bother with this line and just go all Joy Toy.

See above.

How many of you guys are actually painting these artist proof figures up?
