Avatar The Way of the Water Figures

Whats up with Quartich's butthole??

And what's up with all the plastic free packaging?!?! It sucks! the "cardboard" is flimsy and the figures are now wrapped in toilet paper. But everything costs like 20% more. What a dipshit decision. I bet y'all banned straws at the office. Good luck with the next terrible idea for a Star Wars HasLab. What's it gonna be? Anakin's Toddler Trainer Toilet? (For LOLZ :D) |
How long is the Scorpion?
|
This is very frustrating to understand..I'm guessing that the 7 inch scale is actually 5 inch scale and the navi are at 7 inches tall. Again that's my guess. But I am unfortunately probably right and these are not actually 7 inch scale figures.
(Only referring to the 7inch scale figures as noted in product description on McFarlane's website!) |
There are a few lines, due to space mostly and cost is always a driver, that I was unable to collect. They haunt me to this day. The World of Springfield Simpsons line, Mcfarlane Dragons and Avatar. These are absolutes for me.

Why does the Colonel look like he's 3.75 scale and the Navi look 7" scale?
And why is she topless? |

The smaller figures are 2.5", so tiny static figures. In short, nothing that scales with what's been made before. However, if this line continue for more than 1 series, future human figures and vehicles could be quite useful for GIJoe. I can't be the only one, when I was watching the first movie, I was rooting for the humans! Ha ha. |
Would definitely like the mecha if they are Joe scaled. Always wished the Exo Squad suits from the 90s had been a tad bigger for 3.75 instead of for 3" figures.

This is why I hate the "7-inch scale" and "6-inch scale" descriptors sites and companies have been using, especially when referring to a character that isn't the 6' par that scales typically aim at for their standards. I think the DST Iron Giant was listed as a "9-inch scale" figure, which would put it around 6 feet tall... it's obviously not, and it pains me as a modeler to see so many professionals not know what scale means.
Assuming 7 inch figures and 9 foot Na'vi, these are 1/15 and change, roughly in line with 4.5-5" figures. So Quaritch should fit just fine in your TNG Bridge or Justice Jogger! |
These photos raise more questions than they answer. The scale seems inconsistent. The green neon beach towels are weird. Neytiri's lack of something akin to a bikini top seems odd. Are the big Pandora Poops a joke?
Quaritch's hair is still grey, so he's not a clone. I hope the final, finished sculpt is more detailed. The mini-terrarium "Omatikaya Rainforest" might look neat in a fish tank. I wonder if it's safe for that. Not that anybody cares, but I wish someone besides Zoe Saldana was cast as the heroine. There's something about her that strikes me as false, cold, totally unapproachable, unappealing. |

I haven't been this disappointed in a scale figure launch since mcfarlane did the walking dead series one. |
I know people always say don't bet against James Cameron, but if I could I would bet the farm that the new Avatar is gonna be one of the biggest bombs in history and all that merch is gonna end up at goodwill or something. I also thought Iron Man 2008 was gonna bomb too though.

I'm hoping that AMP suit is truly 7 inch scale. Or that at the least it can fit 6 inch figures. Also did anyone else catch that Amazon had all these listed at incorrect and lower prices. The Mega Banshees were $40 instead of $50, Jake and Neytiri were $20 instead of $25, and the AMP suit was at only $32 rather than the correct $40. So I'm more than willing to take that chance at 20% off. Of course I got my preorders all in. Also kind of interested in that one light up environment for all sorts of things. Put E.T in there or some Mythic Legions. Maybe the faun from Pan's Labyrinth. Swamp Thing?

As for not being a clone, didn't he, y'know, sort of die in the first movie? ;) |

That said, I DO like this series of toys, especially the large scale ones. They look good. However, I will wait for the Navi figures to go on clearance before I pick them up. Quote:

These look amazing!!! Finally some proper toys! I dunno why we had to wait like 15 years for this. I remember seeing the old toys (Neca made them, or whoever?) and being disappointed for lack of articulation and crappy paint jobs.
I love the large Banshees, and how even the wings are articulated! I am hoping we get the Direhorse and Thanator on this scale too. Quote:
And this is Quaritch from the first movie. All these toys are depicting characters and scenes from the first movie. We have seen that in the new movie, Quaritch has an Na'vi Avatar body. Quote:

And yes, Ney'tiri is topless, always was.. she's hot. |
Seems like there are zero figures to pilot those AMP and Crab suits.
