P Bandai exclusive… well that means I’ll never own it. Shame, I like it but I’m not willing to pay the mark up. It’ll be what? 135USD from BBTS?

Thatannoyingguy 05-26-2023 06:41 AM

It’s got very clear textures going on and I like it like that.

Zigerlion 05-26-2023 07:20 AM

Oof, the price hike for figuarts these days.

Cyclopswc 05-26-2023 07:40 AM

What I look like after I see the price:

Same articulation as the Hot Toys version ;)

INfamous5 05-26-2023 09:50 AM

That last promo image with the pink backdrop looks sad

Wait, so he's supposed to have all the techno texture on his suit, but ML just chose to... not do them? Or is SHF overemphasizing the texture when it's barely visible in the movie?

Either way that face... derp.gif

Going by the Hot Toys figure, I think this is just another example of Bandai massively overexaggerating the texture on their Figuarts releases of Spider-figures recently. Another really bad example was how Across the Spider-Verse Miles looked like a basketball.

Also man, why is the unmasked head so pale? I don't think he's supposed to be that light in the movie, from what we've seen of the trailers as well as the Hot Toys figure.

Yeah this whole figure seems a bit off. The over-texturing, the weird choice for a face, and the cape doesn't seem to be very accurate either if we go by the movie CGI and Hot Toys' offering. It should be at least translucent shouldn't it? Even Hasbro did that. Doesn't match the comics' gossamer white cape either. It's too red and solid.

I have the original comics and the ArtFX statue. At no point did the character ever look like this. This seems to be another "interpretation."

In a word: ugh.

I mean...... an interpretation on the part of the movie, yeah. This is directly based on the Spider-Verse sequel. The changes here, like exaggerating physique, aren't really out of line with these movies' visual design.

Skoob 05-30-2023 10:36 AM

Yeah, I just find it cringy, like what the animators did to Tron. Eeesh.

Designincase 05-31-2023 12:25 PM

I like the exaggerated detail on the suit. The issue is how do you represent the pattern at this scale?

Do you go with a paint that reacts to light or just gloss?
Subtle sculpt or a deeper one?

Hasbro went subtle but you can barely see it. Hot Toys with with a reactive paint.

In the movie, the red is generating light or at least very fluorescent. The blue perfectly replicating the confusing nonsense that is Spider-man 2099's Blue/Black debacle. Black suit with blue highlights or blue suit with extreme shadows. Which basically hides a lot of that detail.

Bandai could probably do a cell shaded version with fluorescent red paint.
