Cyberzoic - Creative Beasts Studios Armored Dinos/Dragons and Riders Kickstarter

A very cool new Kickstarter is live. Not Dino Riders per say, but all new with similar vibes. Looking great so far IMO.

News -> Cyberzoic – Sci-Fi Dinosaur Figures with Riders from Creative Beasts Studio!

Kickstarter -> CYBERZOIC- Sci Fi Dinosaur and Dragon Action Figures

Huh, that's pretty cool. And it's not all dinosaurs either. There are dragons and dragon griffins. Also one that looks like He Man's battlecat lol. The pricepoint ain't too bad, but interest in this type of stuff is kinda niche.

ghostbogey 10-03-2023 06:42 AM

Interesting ;^)

firmpulse 10-03-2023 08:37 AM

Wow. That is REALLY cool. I love how the armor parts form stand alone vehicles or a full on robot dino looking thing.

I really like the dragon design. But it needs a saddle and armor. As it's presented now it doesn't align with other offerings in this line. It seems like something from another line that just has been "made to work"

TheBlueMarvel 10-03-2023 09:18 AM

I see they got this up and running. IIRC Creative Beast Studios teased this about 2 years ago. I’ll reserve judgment until I see their 1/12 offerings.

EDIT: I've seen them and I'm left confused.

Yay, my memory still works. They look cool, but I can't make sense of the 1/18 and 1/12 offerings. The Smilodon is listed as 1/12, which I’m assuming is pictured in the inset on the front page, but it doesn’t look 1/12 standing next to a 1/18 fig.

Cyclopswc 10-03-2023 10:15 AM

I'm pretty sure there's a mistake in the description. They're most likely all 1/18. If Dragolina is 1/12 at 3.75", that's one tiny lady. Not to mention it'd be awfully strange to make a single line of figures in various scales, why would you have a 1/18th figure riding a 1/12 beast?

Tony_Bacala 10-03-2023 10:18 AM

Only thing I can think of - in real world pure Dinosaur scales, they are 1/12 or 1/18 accordingly, to match the original BotM line. In the sci-fi fantasy future situation, all humans are 1/18 scale and the dinos scale with them. They grow/shrink as needed to match the 1/18 figures in that future timeline because all bets are off.

Or, Typo.

T0ySick 10-03-2023 01:28 PM

Ordered the dragon..only one worth buying..I don't collect that scale. The dragon is an imaginary beast so scale doesn't matter to me..Dinos too wierd out of scale.

webz 10-04-2023 03:29 PM

It’s weird, but I can shed light on it… having seen smilodon fossils in real life from LaBrea tar pits, I can say with 100% certainty that the smilodon here is 1/12 scale when used with 1/12 scale figures. However, as a 1/18 scale riding mount, Creative Beasts took liberties and upsized it, since a smilodon is actually slightly smaller than a Siberian tiger. Kinda like their 1/6 scale raptors were the size of large dogs compared to Hot Toys figures, but were Jurassic Park scaled figures for the short lived Amber Collection line.

As for no gear for the dragon… well, they are doing a huge amount of lore for the line. Dragons are indigenous to a new planet, and the only way to compete is cloning dinosaurs with tech upgrades. Seems to be the gist of it.

For me, however… I’m out. They look ok, but I’m not big on the color schemes, nor the lack of herbivores. I’ve actually started collecting the Mattel Hammond collection to supplement my BOM dinosaurs coz the 2 year time frame kills me. The BOM T-Rex is amazing. Can’t recommend it enough. I just wish the focus could have remained purely dinosaurs. If they wanted to expand, they should have had two teams develop a wave at staggered intervals so we had new figures every fall. Anyway… I wish the company the best.

Very very cool news.

going to closely follow this, and maybe pledge. I've been REALLY missing Dino-Riders for years, and this looks like the closest we'll get to a modern interpretation that other properties have enjoyed with success.

As someone who's really picky about scale (my Godzilla collecting and Transformers Masterpiece), they addressed the smilodon in their FAQ on the pledge site. They actually gave 2 reasons, practical and in-universe.

Practical was so the 1/18 human would look more complimentary. I interpret it to mean the human won't make a 1/18 smilodon look small, which in turn would make that particular item look small and unimpressive vs. the other offerings. In universe explanation was that as these are genetically engineered, the creature was upsized to fit their needs. I find both reasons satisfying. Probably going for the dinosaurs only though, if I back the project.

Creative Beasts figures are impressive. I have several 1/6 scale raptors, as well as 1/18 scale trike, styracosaur, tyrannosaur, raptors, and protoceratops. As someone who played with every dinosaur toy he could find as a kid… complete first two waves of Dinoriders, all the Little Tykes dinosaur figures, and the first two or three waves of the original Jp toyline (last one I bought was the red and black Carnotaurus) I can with full confidence say that these are the best dinosaur toys you’ll ever come across. They are amazing. Literally my only complaint is how lon it takes to go from concept to a toy in hand. While no different from other concepts I’ve seen over the years, these are just more painful wait than others due to my love of dinosaurs for 45 years. These have a dinosaur only option, but if that is your deal, take a look at the beasts of the Mesozoic versions of these. They tend to be more colorful.

That's a glowing endorsement. Very good to know.
