The Smurfs 50th Anniversary

4 Attachment(s)
Can anyone believe that the Smurfs have been around since 1958? Though they originally appeared in a Belgian comic, most of us in the West know them by the animated cartoon made by Hanna-Barbera, which ran from 1981-1990 on NBC.

To read more on the history of the little blue guys, check out the Wiki here.

To celebrate, Play Along has released some TRU-exclusive items:

First up is a talking 12" plush of Papa Smurf, Smurfette or regular Smurf. Each one comes with a 22-minute DVD (1 episode) and sound bytes from the cartoon. MSRP is $14.99 each.

Also availabe is a limited edition 15" plush Smurf that also includes a single episode DVD, as well as an animation model sketch and a gold PVC figurine. MSRP for the limited edition is $24.99.

Good times watching the smurfs. Nice to see them back.

Those look Smurfy!

I always wondered why there was only like 3 female Smurfs?

morgana08 12-16-2008 08:52 PM

I was about to ask 3 then I remembered Smurfette, Sassette(was that the little girl's name) and grandma Smurf. I used to watch them on Saturdays but these days if I hear that theme song I could scream.

I still have a doll of baby smurf somewhere in my parents attic. It was awesome.

Wow I had know idea the smurfs have been around that long. I also didn't know the cartoon lasted that long. I thought it ended somewhere around 1985.

No! They can be enjoyed by everyone, dammit!!!

At least that's what I tell myself...

trebleshot 12-17-2008 09:07 PM

And technically they're non-gender specific (except for Smurfette, et al), but we don't exactly have a "Dolls and Stuffed Animals" forum.

Hey, if you like 'em, so what?

I'm tempted to get Papa Smurf myself. Maybe I'll find him during my ongoing search for a Smurfette for my sister (if I can ever find the little bastards. I swear I feel like Gargamel).

Verrrry funny. :p We need a smiley for hitting with a bat. Dang, I need to dig out my smiley link.

Though to be honest, I still had my original Smurf pvcs up until about 6 months ago when I sold them for way below probably what I should have. May try to find a couple new ones for my Mom who still likes them.

Bad having a Mom who still likes Smurfs, Ewoks, etc.
