Found him today at my local comic shop here in Anchorage Alaska.

so looking at the pics you bought 2? the large carded version then the box set with silver surfer, are you going to open them? or keep moc?

RiotControl 09-03-2010 12:16 AM

Keeping SDCC MOC...most likely will open this one after the move to the new place.

It's something like this that makes me laugh at a company like Mattel. They made a 19" figure (Tytus) give it less articulation than the main line, a craptacular gimmick (the hammer thing), and a somewhat simplistic if not subpar sculpt and rotocast it for that matter. They then charge $40.00 for it and then claim that if they would have added articulation or non-rotocast it then they would have had to charge $80-$100 for it.

Meanwhile, Hasbro makes a 19" Galactus, seem to give it the same articulation as the main line, a light and sound gimmick, and awesome sculpt with tons of detail and most likely poured plastic. And to top it off they're only charging $55 for it.

Go Hasbro! It's difficult waiting for my Pile o. Loot to get bigger so I can finally get ahold of this guy :D

The dark variant has the translucent Surfer. AFAIK, BBTS only had the regular deco.

thenameiuse 09-13-2010 07:00 AM

Has everyone only been finding the classic color Galactus? And how many has everyone that has seen him, seen? He has only appeared at one of the three TRU's around me and there were only two; both were comic colored version. It sucks because I want the variant so I'm trying to hold off purchasing the classic one, but also afraid if I don't buy one now when I actually see it, I'll have to pay scalper prices later when I never see it again.

my problem is i want the classic color galactus BUT want the cosmic translucent surfer....wonder why the f hasbro didn't just give us a vac metal surfer with either version? that would have been soooo awesome.

ZeoVGM 09-13-2010 08:26 AM

What's vac-metal?

evilash529 09-13-2010 09:34 AM

BBTS doesn't have the variant in stock but you can preorder it for $55. Which is what I did since I don't want to miss it in store or pay a ton for it on ebay.

Ghost Story 09-13-2010 09:42 AM

I have got to get me one.

brianregan09 09-13-2010 10:24 AM

Hopefully i'll pick up the clear surfer on e-bay hopefully (crosses fingers)

it's a simulated chrome finish applied to plastic. think destro's head on your joe figures...or micromen heads/accessories

trebleshot 09-14-2010 06:42 AM

It was also used on several different series of Transformers, from G2 all the way to Henkei and Generations (look at the seat in Thrust's cockpit).

The full term is vacuumized-metal.

man, back in the day we got all kinds of vac metal stuff. most of the g1 tformer weapons were vac metal...ah, the good old days.

now it's few and far between (at least in the states)

Amalberga81 09-14-2010 06:44 PM

for silver surfer, i more like for the one from showdown than the single one from hasbro
