BBTS has Modern Whiplash, Modern War Machine

Sadly no Mandarin yet, but those two are available. I picked up Whiplash

Whiplash - Iron Man 2 Comic Figures Series 04 - Whiplash - Iron Man 2 (2010 Movie) 3.75" Figures

War Machine - Iron Man 2 Comic Figures Series 04 - Modern War Machine - Iron Man 2 (2010 Movie) 3.75" Figures

nomad1632 10-05-2010 05:31 PM

cant wait to get these although I'm going to hold off till I see them in stores. I prefer getting my own figures and picking the best paint and detail.

brianregan09 10-05-2010 05:40 PM

Picked up the 3 of them and the 3 latest comic packs whilst i was there :) i wish they had madarin though :(

Amalberga81 10-05-2010 06:36 PM

hmmm just want to take the comic series only, for me concept series just repaint from previous series, not worth it to collect them all (even we can paint the figures by our own !!, damn)

Snowflakian 10-05-2010 07:08 PM

Whiplash and Ultimate armor look fantastic. The rest I'll pass on.

nomad1632 10-05-2010 08:26 PM

definitely gettn the comic series and I'm digging the hot zone and munitions armor war machine their sweet lookn!

scarecrow 10-05-2010 08:42 PM

Modern War Machine looks really cool, never was a huge fan of the fact that Rhodey was all cyborged out though, so I'll keep the helmet on.

I want the Stark Racing one since this'll be about the closest thing I can get to the suit Tony wore outside of the minimate. Otherwise it's an okay group.

Autobot_Goldbug 10-05-2010 10:55 PM

Unfortunately the modern WM looks like he has no elbow swivel. That is a deal breaker for me. I didn't pick up Arctic IM or advanced armor IM because of that crappy body.

ZeoVGM 10-06-2010 12:38 AM

I hate how Hasbro/BBTS/whoeever is classifying these, making them into "comic waves" and "movie waves". Except this movie wave has ... nothing from the movie. It's all concept figures. It makes no sense.

I don't even know how to categorize them with the multiple waves and scattered numbering.

Primacron 10-06-2010 01:29 AM

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I suspect that Mandarin is short-packed in the wave so probably won't be available by himself.

I notice the set of all 4 is sold out so if you're after Mandarin it might have to be hope you see him in store or get him on ebay.

But otherwise, yay, Mandarin is here! (I pre-ordered, so added the set of 4 to my pile of loot last night.)

cellardoor 10-06-2010 01:44 AM

I will kill to get my hands on that Ultimate iron man. Or I could just pay $25 for it I suppose.

MonkeyBusiness 10-06-2010 07:16 AM

How exactly does BBTS get these significantly before everyone else? Do they have a deal with Hasbro or some Chinese factory somewhere?

That being said, I'm considering grabbing the box of the Armor Tech Series 3 and the Movie Series 5. Anyone want first crack at an Air/Weapon Drone or Movie Whiplash?

The lack of elbrows was the worst thing about the Arctic/Advanced armors and the fact that this figure used that body had me worried. Still going to pick it up but no elbrows=disappoint.

I think it's because they may have not ordered as many as the older waves and had enough room to take these in when they became available. Stores like Walmart, Target, TRU, et al, have an abundance of the older waves still on shelves, with comic wave 3 not even in complete saturation yet.

Based on what I've seen on the site, BBTS only adds the "Comic" tag to the entries when the packaging identifies them as "Comic Series". Everything else is considered "Movie" by them.

The "Concept Series" figures are supposed to be based partially on previous movie figures - they're basically off-screen, mission-specific armors. Which makes sense if you think about it. Tony is well-known for modding his armors for specific tasks or missions (see Hulk- and Thorbuster, among others). You could even look at them as concept ideas that Tony came up with, but are only stored on J.A.R.V.I.S.

If I'm not mistaken, the numbering was supposed to separate the movie/concept figures from the comic figures. Numbers 1-21 are movie/concept and 22-39 are comic. I will admit, it's sometimes confusing when the actual "wave" sometimes contains a mix of movie and comic figures instead of one or the other (and that we've all been calling them "movie wave X" or "comic wave X" instead of simply wave X.

It will also be more confusing since the SRA concept figure is #40 and more movie figures are slated for release (which will probably start with #41). If any more comic figures get announced, I don't know what numbers they'll end up with.

They order cases from Hasbro, same as any other retailer. The difference is BBTS's distribution system is far less complicated than regular retailers. Same reason you see comic shops get them sometimes before Walmart, et. al. Walmart, for example, has product shipped to a main distribution center, where it is then shipped product to regional distribution centers who then ship it to individual stores.

AFAIK, BBTS only has one distribution center that handles site orders and ships them DTC. You could always email Joel and ask him about it. Not sure if he will answer, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Actually, the concept series figures are based off of concept art done for both movies. They are in the movie art books.

boombatty 10-06-2010 03:07 PM

Crap, sold out before I got to the site. Managed to pick up 2 Ultimates and 2 War Mchines from BBTS Amazon store but no Whiplash to be had. Any one pick up an extra they want to sell and/or trade?

Amalberga81 10-06-2010 06:40 PM

so its mean BBTS only have a few stock for this series, but its okay just be patient and soon we will see in retails stores for this....i think for Iron man 2 series 3inch, asia also more fast to appear than US or europe, i dont know how but already seen this pattern twice

Ricardogasjr 10-07-2010 12:05 PM
