Toynami 1/55 VF-1 Wishlist: Which One Do You Want Most?
Last year at SDCC, while Toynami was hyping up their MPC Beta Fighter, in the background of their display case, they had a gem. A toy a ton of Robotech and Macross fans alike wanted since childhood.
In the background was a 1/55 VF-1D prototype. Ever since the day Takatoku placed a mock up in the first 1/55 ads back in the '80s, fans have always wished for a 1/55 VF-1D. What Robotech fan doesn't remember the fateful day when Rick Hunter took to the skies, inadvertently met a woman who he would fall for, and unofficially started his career as a military pilot? What did he do this in? A VF-1D. With Toynami and Tamashii announcing a partnership last year, Macross and Robotech fans such as myself were excited. When the partnership was announced, the initial plans were to bring over Tamashii(Bandai)'s 1/55 Origin of Valkyrie releases over, the only difference being a Toynami sticker being placed on the box. I personally anticipated this, as it was exciting; the very first time Macross toys would be domestically distributed here! The plan for distributing Origin of Valkyrie VF-1 toys has been delayed until this year. I'm not sure what is going on at the moment. Toynami had also mentioned, that they may also bring over the 1/55 here, with all new heads, and in Robotech packaging. This is similar to how they are bringing the Beagle Mospeada 1/10 scale figures as MPC Cyclone Ride Armors here, w/new heads and Robotech packaging. At SDCC, the prototype VF-1D was shown along with prototype heads for the VF-1A/J/S Veritechs. I'm not alone in wanting to see these. Sure there are new VF-1 toys, they aren't hard to find, and won't be anytime soon. Yet, you can't beat a classic. The Tamashii/Bandai VF-1 is a sound toy, sturdy, the most durable VF-1 ever made, amongst modern robot jet toys from other present toy lines, it is still a hard toy to beat. When Transformers: Classics was released, most of the figures in the line completely outdid their G1 vintage toy counterparts, but did Jetfire? That was a hard one. Even now it is hard to say. Why? Jetfire was a repaint of none other than a Bandai 1/55 VF-1 toy! So yes I'd love to see VF-1 toys released here. 1/55 toys. The classics. New heads would be neat. The sculpts look good. I'll take them in either form, new or old. I love the 1/55 VF-1. I'm impatiently waiting for these to emerge one way or another. So this poll focuses on which 1/55 VF-1 Veritech you'd love to see in Toynami's Robotech line. I want to hear ALL of your thoughts! Back when I was younger, it was the most realistic toy I had ever laid my hands on, and now that I am a grown man, the toy is still freaking amazing. Brilliant design. DISCUSS! |
I would vote, but a VF-1A DYRL? Kakizaki isn't on the list ;)

VF-1D assuming they change the cockpit to show two seats in there. After that it should be the Max 1A and the Ben 1A
