sug2763 12-08-2010 05:54 PM

Would have been a better trailer for the first movie.

Some info about part 3 courtesy of Collider.com (all of the "he" is in reference to Michael Bay):

After talking to Buzz Aldrin (who is involved in the movie), he thinks they really went to the Moon in the 60’s

The teaser trailer has no final effects footage. He wouldn’t even call any shot close to 80% done

He says you’ve got to massage every 3D shot

They’re ahead in the editing right now because he’s putting a lot of pressure on himself to do pristine 3D

Says “if you want to do proper 3D it’s a $30 million price tag.” Also “if you want to do dual eye-rendered robots, you got another 30% charge, because you got two eyes now, two different visual effects that have got to be blended. There’s more work on the visual effects shots.”

Did 5 months of research trying to decide between post conversion and shooting in 3D. Tested everything.

Says they will have shot 70% or so in 3D and they’ll post convert the rest

He has 3 full time editors working on the film due to how much has to get done in such a short period of time

Spends an hour and a half everyday talking to ILM via video conferencing to talk about the effects. Goes up there all the time to talk individually with the animators. Says 25% of the CG work is being done at Digital Domain and the rest at ILM

Regarding what they shot in 2D, says “we shot most of my close-ups with faces with anamorphic film, cause that stuff’s easier to convert and it’s just more beautiful than the digital.”

Read the full interview here. For the record, I HATED part 2. I find myself intrigued by the possibilities of part 3. Here's hoping.

This trailer makes me wish the whole movie was based in the late 60s with the moon landing.

Anywho, I think the TF in ship was Alpha Trion.

I thought the first movie was halfway decent, but the second, aside from some of the action beats was a complete train wreck.

But damn if that isn't a good (and good looking) teaser trailer.

I completely agree with your view on the first 2 films - seems to me to be a bit of a curse for superhero/action films - the first film they have the hero(es) arrive to earth/get their powers, then they have the villains arrive to earth/get their powers, bit of a build up (maybe some motivation) and then they have a big fight at the end.

With the sequel they have to come up with a plot of some sort and somehow don't quite manage it. My favourite quote I saw relating to the second transformers film was 'it's like watching paint dry whilst being hit over the head with a frying pan'.

The trailer looks good but then so did the trailer for the second film. Still hopeful for something good though.

ROTF had some good moments, but the plot was very weak and some of the subplots could have been left out. Prime was a little more aggressive than I liked, too. Hopefully, they will dial that back somewhat in TF3.

The teaser looks pretty good. It definitely reminds me more of the first film, rather than the second. And I agree, the bot in the teaser looks a LOT like Alpha Trion.

JKahn913 12-09-2010 12:18 PM

I liked the ROTF story. It was the gratuitous fight scenes that got to me. I literally got a headache opening night from the clashing metal near the end.

I still saw it two more times.

What story?

That movie was explosions and boobs.

The matrix is my favorite part of Transformers. So I quite liked that. And I liked the antagonism between the government hack and the military.

Now that I remember it, I probably saw it in theaters about seven times. So I wish I could take back the bad stuff I said about it. The next movie will be fine, too. I'll probably miss Bay when he's gone from the series.

Part 2 had a lot of scene that made zero sense once you watched it over.

Primacron 12-10-2010 03:35 AM

I hope the 'humour' is more reminiscent of the first film than the second film.

My favorite little piece of complete nonsense is admittedly something that a lot of people might not pick up on if they're not paying attention and/or not familiar with the places they're showing:

When they go to find Jetfire, they end up at the National Air and Space Museum Annex out near Dulles International Airport just outside Washington, D.C. (I think they even show the sign out front when they're going in). Now, I live relatively near this area (just for reference), so after they go inside and find Jetfire, and then step out the back door to what is pretty clearly the "Boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base outside Tucson, Arizona (complete with mountains in the background) it was definitely a giant "WTF?!?" moment for pretty much everyone in the audience I was watching it with.

trebleshot 12-10-2010 07:37 AM

I don't even live anywhere near DC, but being an Air Force brat, I'm quite familiar with both of those places and I had a WTF?! moment during that scene too. Apparently in the ROTF universe, the Boneyard is part of an exhibit at the Annex.

Overall, the story was there, but you can tell that script took a big hit during the writer's strike. Also the number of writers didn't seem to help. Numerous plot holes, inconsistencies and anachronisms abound. Also stupid subplots, especially the scene with Sam's mother eating the "special" brownies and every scene involving "Alice". In fact, the only real impact Alice had on the plot is that it forced Leo to go with Sam and Mikaela.

Another big issue I had with the plot is the Railgun near the end. Way too convienent that it: 1) was exactly where it needed to be; 2) performed perfectly even though it was experimental. I would have been satisfied if they had just mentioned it earlier in the movie to set it up for later in the film. That foreshadowing alone would have been enough for me.

I guess that's why I'm more excited for the third film. There's no writer's strike to worry about and only one writer. Granted, it was the same one from ROTF, but at least he can have a single vision this time around instead of reworking someone else's material.

MegaPrime33 12-10-2010 09:24 AM

I've never had any doubts on whether or not I would go see this movie. I will go because I am a transformers fan and to see an action movie. I try to take things as face value. I thought the first film was pretty good, the second film was just ok, and I hope the third is better than all. But we'll see.

I actually would be really curious to see where this franchise goes after TF3. Who would take over? What will they do with it? How will it be changed from this franchise? Will continue on or be a reboot? I tell ya what I would love to see as a trilogy is the More than Meets the Eye story and base the movie in the 80s. It could begin immediately in a battle between Bots and Cons and their race to find more energon, the battle continues in space with the Ark and the Nemesis crashing to Earth and then, million years later, are re-awoken by an earthquake to continue their battle on Earth for energon and for cybertron.
