Transformers Movie 1986 characters

Okay so guys got a good task for you guys i'm not really a huge Transformers collection but basicly i'm looking to fill out the cast of the 1986 Transformers Cartoon movie with the best possible up to date figures got Jazz from the Reveal the Shiel line and Thrust from the Generations line so thats the kind of scale i'm looking at Deluxe and up so hers what i'm looking fo if you can tell me what would be the best of some figure of some these i'd be hugely grateful now been looking on e-bay and there is some cool ones like Starscream and Thundercracker but there not made by Hasbro are these okay quality or ?

Hot Rod/ Rodimus
Kup (coming in generations line)
Blur

Hot Rod/ Rodimus - Deluxe Classics Hot Rod and FP Protector Armor Or the RTS battle in space pack that includes cyclonus.

Kup (coming in generations line) - Deluxe Generations as you stated.

Blur - Deluxe Generations or Cybertron Blur is the closest you'll get for now without going OG figure.

Arcee - Deluxe Animated is the closest, but if you can be patient the cards are looking good for later.

Ultra Magnus - Classics Two Pack Voyager UM and Deluxe Skywarp + City Commander armor

Blaster - Device Label Blaster (usb hub) or the Kabaya Kit/KO kit(perfect size for just under deluxe but much taller than scout).

Dinobots - Personally I use animated for these because I like the aesthetic difference to differentiate them moreso. Otherwise Deluxe Classics Grimlock, PCC 5 pack Grimstone, MP Grimlock, or Deluxe Energon Grimlock/swoop two pack.

Ironhide - Deluxe Universe 2.0 ironhide or the Takara version.

Perceptor(coming in generations too) - Deluxe Generations as you pointed out.

Astrotrain - Deluxe Classics or Henkei if you want him in purple. There's also a voyager TFCC one that's just as the shuttle.

Soundwave - I use Deluxe WFC personally, but others suggest Device Label. Again if you're patient the cards look good for later.

Megatron - I like Voyager Classics or Henkei personally for this. Especially if you give him Energon Terrorcon battle Ravage's tail.

Galvatron - Deluxe Universe 2.0 is good enough for me, but other good ones are the Energon Galvatrons(Voyager or leader).

Scourge - Deluxe Generations or 6'' Titanium.

Cyclonus - Deluxe Universe 2.0 Cyclonus or the RTS Battle in space 2 pack that includes deluxe Rodimus

Starscream - Deluxe Classics or Universe 2.0 or MP starscream. Stay away from the seeker KOs! They tend to be very fragile.

Rumble Frenzy - RTS Scouts Rumble Frenzy or PE's targetmaster versions.

Shockwave - Cards look good for later, but as of right now, Voyager energon shockwave. Voyager Animated Purple Shockwave isn't bad either. You could always wait to see the movie one too.

Devastator - Sadly nothing completely shown yet, but RumbleFrenzy's custom is a good start, as could be the new not hook and not scavenger.

Welcome to TFU.INFO The Alpha Trion and Omega Prime of Transforming Toys - www.tfu.info has info on the majority of these besides the newest guys, Customs, FP, PE, or unreleased.

I'd suggest Masterpiece Grimlock over Classics. He's a bit too big, but I'd personally rather have him be a bit too big than way too small, like Classics.

Wheelie exists in Legends, which is about the only minibot update who's got a decent scale to the larger classics versions. If the Dinobots are a must, I would look into the Walmart exclusive Dinobots line from early in the decade. It was the last (And only) time the entire dinobots had a complete homage, though they were all Beast Wars repaints, and Sludge was a dimetrodon.

You also forgot Springer. There are two versions for him. Botcon 2007, who transforms into an armored truck, and Universe 2, who transforms into a rescue chopper.

Wait, Shockwave has been confirmed for the third movie?

There's also warbot defender if you want an actual triple changer, but I wouldn't count hasbro out yet for that next nostalgia goodies line either.
Whenever they say no plans, it just means for that immediate wave or line, so a good springer could still come from them.

Yup.

Snowflakian's answer is very comprehensive, just a couple of extra thoughts:

There are a couple of third party Arcees out there - I got the Impossible Toys one and am very happy, but a few other people seem to be less impressed.

I think the best options for (all) the Dinobots are the g1 versions, having said that Grimlock has had a few good figures - particularly the Masterpiece.

An extra option for Soundwave and Blaster are the smallest (WST) versions if you want roughly in scale tape players (and possibly cheaper). Otherwise the Music/Device label figures are excellent with reprolabels.

For Devastator there is the Classics release of Energon Constructicon Maximus, but it's pretty expensive now and only has the energon feet/hands. A third party called TF Club are currently working on some fantastically accurate figures, but that could be even more ridiculously expensive (which includes the not Hook and not Scavenger mentioned by Snowflakian).

A better figure would be the FansProject Warbot Defender, which manages to transform into 3 alt modes like the G1 figure, but is fully articulated and looks a lot more like the animation model, it even has diecast! Might be pricey to track down, it sold out fast.

He has, I just hope that a release of him in the movie does not prevent a Classics/Generations/RTS version of him from being made/released.

More suggestions:
  • Reveal The Shield Windcharger
  • Reveal The Shield Frenzy
Both are upcoming scout figures.

Crazy Jetty 12-30-2010 02:24 AM

I don't think "Warbot Defender" is better. I think it's downright ugly. and doesn't look like anything in either mode. And Diecast is a horrible thing to use in a transformer, so that certainly fails to impress me.

brianregan09 12-30-2010 12:25 PM

I find it really pissing off that outside of the masterpiece one theres no really accuarate version of g1 megatron

Prowl 2009 02-15-2011 11:58 AM

Hot Rod/ Rodimus - Classics version w/ FansProject add-on Protector Armor.

Kup - Generations.

Blurr - Generations, I know it's based off his IDW appearance, but there really isn't a lot of choice in the Classic-esque Blurr department.

Arcee - For now, Animated Arcee is as close as you're going to get.

Ultra Magnus - Classics Magnus w/ City Commander add-on from FansProject.

Springer - FansProject Warbot Defender is nice, but there is also a version in Universe that came in a comic 2-pack with Ratbat that would do the job well.

Blaster - I'd say the 2008 Universe edition with the planned Transformers Club add-on kit, or the SDCC 2010 Comemerative Blaster or Device Label Blaster are your best 3 choices.

Dinobots - LOL, well you can start with MP-Grimlock.

Ironhide - Universe 2.0 Deluxe Ironhide

Perceptor - Generations

Astrotrain - Henkei Astrotrain, the coloring is proper, the Classics version is too bland.

Soundwave - Generations WFC Soundwave or MP3 Soundwave are your best and probably only choices for now.

Megatron - WFC Megatron probably if you want to keep with scale, or the newly released United Megatron, which still retains his classic G1 gun alt mode.

Galvatron - Universe 2.0 Deluxe Galvatron, but you'll either love it or hate it.

Scourge - Generations.

Cyclonus - Universe 2.0 Deluxe Cyclonus

Starscream - Universe 2.0 Deluxe Starscream

Rumble Frenzy - If you want them now, Perfect Effect has some nice versions available, but Hasbro has versions of their own planned to be released in the RTS line this year.

Shockwave - Alternators Shockblast is pretty good, G1 Shockwave has his original alt mode, or maybe you could wait for DOTM Voyager Shockwave if you wanted too.

Devastator - In the Classics line, the Constructicons were released in gift sets, so there is that option, or a G1 Devy with the CrazyDevy upgrades or, if you wait, Transformers Club is releasing a Devy of their own.

Wheelie - Universe Legends Wheelie.

Hope this helps a bit. ;)
