Do You Remember........... SUPER OSTRICH?

NEW Yamato 1/60 VT-1 Super Ostrich

Shin Densetsu 03-26-2009 07:03 PM

NEW HIGH-RES Images!

Since Bandai's reissues have been idle and there has been no announcement for the "DYRL trio", I may pick this up, hopefully by then, the shoulder hinge issues will have been addressed.

QuinJester 03-27-2009 06:23 AM

All the releases post VF-1D (the OTHER horrifically orange and beige valk) are supposed to have revised shoulders. Of course, knowing the last time Yamato "revised" a shoulder joint (the VF-0A), I would be hesitant to call it "fixed" without giving it plenty of break-in time. The smaller pin diameter could result in breaking pins as opposed to breaking hinges, who knows.

Either way, I may pick this one up. I passed on the D, but the VT-1 with the unique boosters and sculpting details is just different enough to make it stand out and be appealing to me.

Very nice piece!

So true. Do you have the VF-1D and has it broken? I'm thinking about getting it...

QuinJester 03-27-2009 11:16 AM

No D for me. I do, however, have a VF-1A that as far as I can tell hasn't broken. I don't particularly feel like yanking on the shoulder to test it, though :D

I don't blame you. Apparently with the pins shaved down, the arms can be abused to hell and the hinges will be fine.

Here's what sucks, straight up: we can tell that Yamato has plans for the GPS-1, as the ventral fins fold inward in preparation for this. Yet if the shoulders are loosened to prevent breakages, and the smaller diameter pin proves to not do much(I hope not!), then the arms will sag to hell with the GPS-1 armor mounted on.

QuinJester 03-28-2009 09:26 AM

Mmm.... not so much, really. The vulnerable hinge is purely vertical and supported from the underside by a raised lip so sagging wont be an issue at all, unless of course said shoulder isn't attached due to breakage, which <knock on wood> wont happen ideally.

I may have to finally spring for a 1/60 VF-1 now. I love the Ostrich design.

The price tag on this thing is depressing. It's significantly more than than the other super valks.
