More updated pics on Captain America
BBTS now has Camtain American 3 3/4'' figures..
Captain America: The First Avenger (Movie) Toys, Action Figures, and Collectibles 1x Ultimates Captain America 1x Classic Update Captain America 1x Winter Soldier 1x WWII Captain America 1x Bucky Captain America 1x Captain Britain 1x Captain America Final Mission 1x TBD 1x US Agent 1x Crossbones 1x TBD very happy to see a nice winter soldier, crossbones, captain britain looks sweet,.. definatley gonna grab a shield for wall display.. and could be some nice add ons with 2 figures left to be announced. |
I like the movie version better then all of them. Like a more realistic Ultimate Cap.
|
I really hope these figures either come with regular shields in addition to the "gimmick" shields, or that the gimmick shields can be taken apart to give them "normal" shields somehow.
|
I'm thinking that I'll replace the gimmick shields with the MU ones.
|
I kinda like the 1 that splits apart.. but most are aweful haha

What's great is that they re-used the SDCC ulitmate WW2 cap for this release. I can finally pose it!
My question is the TBD figures are obviously movie specific but do we know what they might be? If they have ties to spoilers etc then i'm guessing/hoping we get a Pre-Serum Steve Rogers, maybe a Movie Bucky or an unmasked Movie Cap figure. |

For some reason the movie toys always like to try to keep the bad guys "mysterious" as long as they can |
I like the US agent shield, screams fighting american, but otherwise I tend to agree on the shields. Lucky me though since all I'm getting is captain britain for now.

Final Mission and the WWII versions are nice. The rest of these are clearly geared towards kids--which is good because Cap needs a little more appeal to the kiddos these days. He often gets short shrift next to Iron Man or Spider-man.
|
WWII and Movie Cap are definite first day buys for me I just hope Red Skull is out then too
|
FYI, this isn't a "comic series". There's a movie figure in that second wave.
|
I'd just like to see Hasbro catering a bit less to the children with their Marvel figs, I feel like we make up more of their bottom line. (Or maybe that's just in the secondary market.) I remember first seeing these on shelves back in '09 and what I really dug was how they were just basic figures, with none of the obnoxious waist-twisting arm-flailing thumb in the back B.S. that sacrificed articulation and detail for gimmicks. Rather they featured decent artic and a character appropriate accessory or two. Why we have fist-sized red plastic bazookas with wings on the arms of our Captain America figures I'll never understand.

I can still remember picking toys as a kid, and I never went for toys with "real-punching action!" or anything like that. I'd have picked Snake Eyes over anything else simply because the toy looked cool.
I think Hasbor sell kids short by putting all these over-sized and dull accessories in with their toys. Surely a nine-year old boy is going to pick Crossbones over rocket-launcher cap because he looks rad? I think you can still market to kids and collectors, we share very similar mind-sets after all! |

Masters of the Universe virtually had a gimmick for every figure, at least after the first wave or two. Transformers has the gimmicks integrated into the figures in such a way that most collectors don't even consider them "gimmicks." Power Rangers - yes, I hear 80's nostalgia collectors scoffing but it's been one of the most successful lines of the past 20 years - is laden with action features. Don't get me wrong, like I said above, I'm hoping that these gimmick-shields can be stripped down or that they also come with "normal" shields, but the toy companies don't make these decisions in a vacuum or just for the heck of it. Somewhere along the way they did some research that tells them action features help them sell toys to kids. If they hadn't, they wouldn't bother. Also from my personal perspective, if the action feature is something independent of the character (like a spring-loaded launcher or those gimmick-swords that the Thor figures look to be coming with), then it doesn't bother me. Just toss it in a box (or throw it away completely) and be done with it. It's not like the toy companies would charge any less without it. |
