Fury Files Stark's Lego Armory Vault Diorama

37 Attachment(s)
So even prior to Marvel Universe Fury Files, I started working on this. Mostly in anticipation. I used dimensions from the Marvel Legends Showdown figure, and also some other to scale figures to help while I waited on the various Iron Man armors.

Still got empty slots i need to fill in too for this reason. =D
Thinking ahead for this line. I chose legos for ease of moving tables around and also expansion if needed later. It's also built to be a 4 panel lego structure, with hinges to swing open. There are 2 work benches. One's an armor building and repair bench that's on a swivel and fold joint for various postionings, measured to release at a flush walking step too, in case Stark ever needs to charge his heart. This bench was built with two robotic arms constantly within reach for self autonomous repairs, and AI arm mischief. The second work table is just a basic gadget goof around table for Stark to experiment to implement more to his armor after some tests. This half of the room also includes a master PC unit that can run diagnostics on all 14 armors that the final can contain. The bench also has a movie mkIII head replica for Stark's bemusement at his recent hollywood blockbuster. In keeping with the entire Fury Files datacards, this facility was also built with a shield logo in mind as opposed to stark enterprises (though that may come later!).

13 wall mounted armors are planned, and one bench Armor. For now, there's also a temporary desk chair, till I can come up with better.

This half of the armory contains 10 armor posts, 9 in the wall, and one on the bench. Also minor accessory and character jokes if you can recongnize the obscure.

More surprises to come when the second half is completed. Including full birds eye view, and other tech equipment stark surpises! The completed side has the only empty armor slots. For now due to only needing fury files to fill in gaps.

50% done. (Well really farther than 50%, but I don't want to show off the unfinished half yet. So 50% of it has had photos taken I guess, but I digress.)

Second Half to come later, ran out of legos, and with collecting going in full swing again from Fury File releases, ROTF, XMO, and TFA, may not have money for more to finish it off till much later. So far though, just gotta finish one more alcove, close two walls, and paint it. Vault doors are already installed too in that half. =D

LUCKYDUBE 05-06-2009 04:37 AM

Pretty Cool!

Snowflakian 05-06-2009 01:00 PM

Just got the wave 3 Iron Man, so I added some new pics with it in its alcove.

4 Empty alcoves left. The Captain Power one is just a joke for now.

The remaining bottom slot is for the Ditko armor in the big battles pack. Then the silver one coming above that. What's coming that could fit those last two top slots between classic stealth armor, and modern stealth armor?

And any word about a tony stark head IM variant? I think Garren is tired of being operated on. xD

Joe Moore 05-06-2009 03:39 PM

Looking pretty cool so far. Look forward to seeing it 100%.

tiger007 05-08-2009 01:08 AM

Awesome work with the Worklabs. Was wondering the v1 suit that from the official movie line? If it is well blow me. If it isn`t where is it from?

topnotch97 05-08-2009 02:07 AM

lol!!! White Power Ranger and Kamen Rider Blade!! :D lol

Snowflakian 05-08-2009 07:47 AM

Yeah it's the Mk I from the movie line. Saw the gold one in a store oneday, and just thought it'd be perfect for this. And awesome on the frontpage. xD Wasn't expecting that at all lol.

Is my album where you can see it taking shape, though pretty much out of order entirely.
I'm also in the process of rethinking the 2nd half, since I want to include more armors to cover his 'special type' armor series, but I also want to include an Iron Avengers corner too. So this could someday expand for that.

Still gotta run through a list for special armor types, and Iron Avengers that work.
The Iron Avengers would be a nod from avengers next, the special armors are a nod to the 90s season 2 animated series, and the hulkbuster will be a custom combining Movie Aesthetic, Iron Man 90s season 2, and Fury Files scale.

I've already added one Iron Avenger to the design, Iron America. But the others I am thinking about are:
Iron Antman - Avengers United Antman
Iron Thor - Transformers Crossovers Thor

And I'm stuck on these:
Iron Panther
Iron Wasp
Iron Female (whatever avenger armored female that can fit in his movie scale.)

That may end up being a suppliment armory later though, but cap already is in the second half. So that's the conundrum I'm in for now. And I still need spots for his Inferno armor, subteranean armor, and space armor. Yes, his Hydro-Armor (the retro bubble head one) is in the other half. ;)

I feel like I'm playing American Idol: Stark's Armors, because of all the deciding of who goes and should stay. xD

The pictures don't reflect this, but I've already modded the alcoves for the 3.75'' retro armors to have better form fitting slots. I noticed from the pictures and looking at it, that there was just too much room between his shoulders and the slot, so I added slope pieces in his alcove, and the others that are going to use his remolds.

Awesome job! I am really impressed with the computers, diagnostics and equipment. I am in the process of scratch building a "Rogue Shadow" and was badly in need of ideas for misc. equipment to put inside the cockpit and various other parts of the ship. Once again, great job, looking forward to seeing the rest

Superquad7 05-28-2009 12:50 AM

I really like where you're going with this!

Snowflakian 05-28-2009 01:27 AM

It's one of those things, where I almost want more people to catch the wave and have an entire MU Built to Rule Marvel World. xD At least that's one of the reasons way down the list on why to use legos. The tower expansion aspects though, that if Hasbro keeps pumping him out I can spiral them up was an added awesome aspect. Once the big ones are knocked out. All I have to do is measure out the alcoves for each to be spaced perfectly around the top spiraling up. In fact that'd be a great BAV (Build a vault) or other such fan diorama ideas.

But anyway back onto the BTR MU world. I'm using just basic lego square bases so any one can expand on the idea later if they chose. Like attach an office with secret door to my armory's triple vault entrance and so forth. Full on scale stark tower with armory spiral in the middle.

It'd be an interesting thing for both Hasbro and Marvel to have on display depending on how much it grew.

Or if Custom Fan works wanted to attempt it, like those doll houses you can buy by the room, only for MU or even DCIH, it'd be city stuff, armory stuff, OA Science Cells, or even Cerebra or the danger room, besides offices and dojos. Then just make them all interlock somehow like the recent Teletran and Nemesis sets, or like I said, those dollhouses that girls can design per room or what where. Like your own armory, that has a stolen OA sciencecell stasis chamber/holding scanner, or whatever else. An armory powered by a Massive GL inspired core battery chamber/Genius Energy Absorbtion Reactor or something. Or Spidey and MJ's date alley, Lover's Leap and Rescue or something. (Spidey Loves MJ fan) And with some foresight in design, they could evne be adaptable for TFs on earth/Hulk out scenario's.

I'm kinda hoping Hasbro gets wind of the idea and either starts BTR back up more seriously, or starts considering such ideas for diorama expansion packs. Now I don't think I'm going to do all that either, but it was an interesting notion to keep in mind while building this as a just in case.

As for progress...
I'm currently halted until ROTF/MU/TFU/Animated Madness sets out.
Wallet's already screaming bloody murder. Currently that half of the structure is about 60% done. Vault doors are in, one alcove remains, and power generator chamber is almost complete. I've even added a wheeled roaming 'hook lift' for armor movements or side stark ventures. There's also some basic lockers for storage, and bioscan arm/ray bombardment testing device (whatever you want to call it, multi-tool). Two additional work stations are also embedded in the design, one analytical for physical material. And one just to be the massive imposing "OMFG SO MANY BUTTONS AND SWITCHES!" pc. There's a storage spote for Movie Style Hasbro Green Goblin Glider, so Parker has someone to keep it safe.
Only IronCaps Alcove has been painted. The hulkbuster's is half built, and the other 2 are in. Wish I had room for more, but I'll worry about that later. ;)

*Edit Update 09-06-09*

Finally Finished. Well sorta. Needs a few touch ups in spots. And I'm working on the hulkbuster itself now. But the armory has been built.
I'd say about 98% done since all that's missing are the top row armors, the hulkbuster, and the minor touchups that spray painting it missed.

More Pictures coming soon!

A full on Picture Palooza if you will. lol Just gotta wait for the Hulkbuster to dry. And touch up a few spots real quick.

It does open farther up to go completely straight across, I just don't have the room to do that yet. lol it's a pretty big square, so it's an even longer rectangle.
I also have to fix the windows on the power supply spot. But I have the paint thinner to clean those off when I do the touch ups later.

RenegadeReviews 11-05-2009 09:07 AM

The card serving as a computer screen looks sweet... Awesome job all around.

Snowflakian 11-05-2009 09:37 AM

I lost track of how many pieces it took, well over 1000 I know, probably close to roughly 2000-2300 since I used a lot of the flat planks to make bricks when I ran out. Counting all the moving pieces too, I guess you could say it's just shy of 2500bricks. But not by much. Possibly over by a 100 give or take a few. (Broke out the calculator to check my estimates even.)

Measurements are:
9.25'' high
20.125'' wide per side
10'' Deep per side
20'' across from side to side when closed.
40.25'' across when fully opened. (It has 3 hinges where it splits on that side.)

wwwyzerd 11-05-2009 02:58 PM

OMFG! That's so awesome! Great work!

Prem1x 11-05-2009 04:13 PM

Really cool!

bigkid24 11-05-2009 05:02 PM

That looks great. I would say maybe trying SNOTing some of the pieces to give it a smoother look. Also if you need some screen type things there are some good pieces in the helicopter from the Dino Attack and the old B-wing Star Wars set.

Snowflakian 11-12-2009 07:27 PM

A few more shots before final touch ups are in place.
Almost done, just need to touch up the spots mentioned before, but the hulkbuster is in now.

Stark Armory 2.0

8 Attachment(s)
So I took a break from it for awhile, then came back to it one night. Completely demolished the half I didn't like and built on top of the side I did.

So, it's officially at a 2.0 stage now.

The alcoves are now 4x4, with a planned 2x3 for non ironman armors.
As well as 3 alcoves for hulkbusters, and 1 for 90s tas ironman. Hey I had to add in the one armor I did like from that line lol.

I've also added in a blue print screen area now above the armor diagnostic table. So now I have a place where the armor cards that come with IM2 figures, can be shown to scale with figures.

This 2.0 so far is only 1 half, though the fold open aspect will have to be rethought out, as it took up too much room anyway, but I messed up the logistics of it with the enemy armor alcoves. I did manage to (currently at least) salvage the triple lock safe door. So I might work it back in somehow, or I might just scrap it for parts to finish this half, and just set the door itself aside as un-needed.

I'm still trying to figure out where to fit the IM2 hulkbuster in though.
the 4x4 alcoves go:
classic, fin head classic, stealth classic, silver centurion,
Neo-classic, Neo-classic thicker, War Machine, Modular (if he ever gets made),
IM2 Modern armor, MU modern armor, Extremis armor, Repulsor armor (current whenever it gets made)
Then movie Mk IV, Movie MK V, Movie MKVI, and a remaing slot to readjust them whenever needed, or to use for the slipstream armor.

The enemy armor alcoves go
Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Comic Iron Monger,
Vault Guardsman, and 2 remaining slots for anyone that'll fit like stiltman, or stingray, or so on. Even thinking about using the IM2 hydro armor, as a Cobalt Man armor in it.

Since the top half is still being built. It hasn't been painted yet. The silver in it is from back when it was the other side of the armory.

If I do a second half to it, I might integrate the target exclusive alcoves.

The lockers I had before, I think might end up going into a new project...
An Academy X class hallway or something.

jamesmruddy 07-18-2010 06:12 AM

That is beyond awesome.

Superquad7 07-30-2010 03:10 AM

I would like to reiterate my post and add that I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing this one being worked on. Great work!

RenegadeReviews 07-30-2010 03:28 PM

Can't wait to see it all come fully together!
