Personally, I still think the 4" line is getting a bad rap. I think the constructs, especially the way they describe them, look and sound fun.

Since they said that Parallax will be spread across the entire Moviemasters line, I went and preordered all the figures BBTS has up.
I'll decide what I want/like form the 4" line when I see them in stores. I just remember all the issues people had with the The Dark Knight moviemaster line, and don't want to repeat that with my GL.

DarkestKnight 03-23-2011 12:33 PM

Yeah I'm excited for the 4" line as well! Looks to be a lot of fun. Plus with them being smaller and more affordable, I will definitely try to collect all the characters.

But I'm confused about this statement:

So when does all the excitement begin? For retail items, the Classics line starts arriving on May 1st, with everything else following around the time of the movie’s release on June 17th.

I though the classics line was the set that's already been out and that the first wave of the 4" stuff would be out on 5/1?

It seems kind of bad if they don't have a firm date for that stuff other than around the movie's release date. They're going to miss out on a lot of the hype and advertising that film will have leading into it. Plus you would think they'd want to get it out before Hasbro's Captain America and Transformers 3 (both of which come out after GL) lines hits the shelves.

Crazy Jetty 03-23-2011 12:46 PM

I don't honestly know about their classics statement, either. Maybe they ment Movie Masters.
Both waves of Classics are already available (I just got my oreorder for wave 2 in monday).

And yeah, the hype has been a bit lackluster. I still haven't seen any previews for the movie. I sorta don't feel that Warner Bros. has much confidence in it.

I think the big ass movie master kilowog has potential. Skipping most of the other figures. Want to see the tru 2 packs.

Yeah it's a shame, because I think it will end up being a big hit with the mainstream audience. Either way I'd HATE to have wait until June to get these.

My first gripe is the way they are selling the 4inch line as a "kids" line......reading between the lines i take that to meant the articulation and detail will be as basic as they can get away with?? Big mistake, with SW,MU+joe figures being that scale this would be a great chance for mattel to ace the GL line, but who is gonna buy poorly articulated badly detailed figures to sit on their shelves?? Regardless of mainstream movie appeal surely the success of any GL merch is gonna rest in the hands of us toy/comic geeks??

My second (and to be honest BIGGEST) gripe is the re-design of kilowog's head.....he looks like a simpleton...however that body sculpt is pretty damn cool,do we know which size it is??
If its a 4inch maybe we can get some of the casting guys to knock us out a "classic" kilowog for that body.........

I think it has to do with the fact that they seem to have LESS articulation than the Infinite Heroes line.

It's not the first time Mattel has made mistakes in their press releases.

I agree.

Oddly, I find myself both excited and discouraged by this press release. Aside from some Transformers here and there, I'm purely a 3-3/4" or 4" collector. I'm excited to add some more lantern corps members and guardians to my Infinite Heroes collection and some of the constructs sound cool. On the other hand, this is a huge disappointment. Mattel had a great opportunity to really re-vamp some excitement in their 4" line by adding a little articulation and at least paying some attention to the collectors market. Instead, it looks like they have surrendered the fight to Hasbro completely.

I agree, that a little more articulation would have been nice, but I think kind of figure..(get it figure...hehe...) where Mattel's coming from.

They are paying attention to the collector's market with the movie masters line. They defined the 6-inch scale for collectors. Sure they are more expensive, but that's with all toylines of that scale, can't really avoid it(Look at the Iron Man 2 6 inch line that was the same price last year and almost $18 each for the Armored Avenger line this year.)

I know a lot of people were turned off when Marvel switched to the smaller scale. Even now, for collectors, in the comparible lines, a lot are more interested in the 6-inch movie Cap and Thor that will come out in time. Mattel went the route of making cheaper sculpts with less articulation for the 4inch Green Lantern line because they know kids don't pay attention to that as much.

Sure they could've stuck with the 4inch line and done away with movie masters, but they are just maintaining what they did with The Dark Knight.

In all honesty, I like what Mattel is doing with GL than what Hasbro is doing with Captain America. There are mutliple movie characters in the 4inch scale coming out at launch with Green Lantern, Cap only has one. Sure they have a great comic line, but isn't this still a movie line at the center? A kid goes to see Cap in July, then goes to the store with his folks wanting toys of what he saw in the movie, is he going to know who Captain Britain is? or Winter Soldier? Where's the Red Skull? As far as I know, he's just speculation right now. Where's the Hydra troops and the SHIELD/Military figures? Is it going to be like last year with Iron Man 2's Whiplash who was incredibly rare and not really found until months after the movie?

Now, don't get me wrong, I like Habro's product, but I don't like their marketing as much. They proved they could do it right with Thor with multiple characters at launch, including the villian (Loki) and an army builder (Frost Giant), but not the same love for Cap.

With Green Lantern, the collector-aimed figures are the same scale as DCUC, and the less expensive kids line has solid sculpts aside from articulation and will have more than one character released.
