Help?

Im thinking of getting this but have read some reviews of some Yamatos Valks with a cracked shoulder hinge.

My question is... Has this been fixed with this release?

A few of the stand alone VF-1J Hikaru's have the "fixed" shoulder hinges. The only "fix" was to use a smooth pin sans knurling, the knurling, or burred edges of the pins contributed to cracks.

The following are known to have smooth pins(aka fixed hinges):
  • VF-1S Strike Valkyrie Roy & Hikaru Customs w/flashlight, anniversary edition(just released)
  • VF-1S Low Viz
  • VE-1 ELINT Seeker
  • VF-1A Cannon Fodder
  • VF-1J Mass production Valkyrie
  • VF-1S Max Custom
  • VF-1A Max Custom(DYRL? and TV types)
  • VF-1A Kakizaki Custom(DYRL? & TV types)
  • VF-1D Virgin Road
Of the recent releases, the VF-1J Armored Valkyrie GPB bundle set has overstock, repackaged VF-1J Hikaru's with the knurled hinges. The VT-1 also has knurled hinges.

The VF-1J Hikaru Super Valkyrie pictured above might be fixed if you get a later run version, IIRC I think someone DID have one with smooth pins from a restock. Not sure. I know for sure at least a few fans have the stand alone VF-1J Hikaru with smooth pins.

Thanks for the info Shin! This is very helpful.

This will be my first Yamato Valk and I don't want to deal with much problems.

The reason I'm going with this Valk is because BBTS has him in stock not much else, and I won a giveaway $100 from BBTS from another forum. :D

Hey man, how much is BBTS offering it for?

$159.99. I know its more than some sites and maybe e-bay but I would only be paying $60-$70 shipped out my own money.
The VF-1D (127.99) also looks tempting plus cost less.

Im still debating wether or not to get this here or wait and just get something complety different.

The much talked about shoulder issue: does anyone have a picture of he pins both on and off the toy? Could people who buy the ones with bad pins "fix" the issue themselves. I have a few valks fom the v2 line with very limited numbers if tranformations (0-2 so far) so I haven't had an issue yet, but if we have bad pins are we doomed to have failure or can we do something about it?

The pins are textured at one end, smooth on the other, on the "un-fixed" Valkyries. Haven't taken the pins out of mine but you can tell by looking at the ends. Which releases do you have?

Shin

I have the stand alone vf-1s Roy and hikaru versions, a hikaru stand alone vf-1j, and and the vt102 vf-1d. Theoretically I could have all bad pins or 2 bad and 2 fixed as the 1d seems to have fixed pins and some 1j were rumored o be better. I'll take a look when I get home later tonight to see if I can actually see the pin and see if it's removable or not

mechapilot77 03-02-2010 07:45 PM

i must have the worst eyes ever....i can hardly tell if its nurled or not from the tip. so i am pretty sure the two 1S are nurled, not sure about the 1J and the 1D appears not to be.
