BEST YEAR ONE Stories

We all know Batman: Year One is arguably Frank Miller's best Batman arc, and definitely one of the best Batman stories ever told. Yet there are other Year Ones that I don't know much about.

RECOMMEND THEM FOR ME! FOR.THE.WIN!

Which ones should I track down?

I really enjoyed "Superman: Birthright". It takes a few liberties with the origin, but if you were a fan of "Smallville" you will enjoy it as I would say it's similar in tone. Also there is "Superman:Secret Origin" that is the official in-continuity origin I believe that is also very good and has fantastic artwork.

For Batman, as a follow up to Year One, I would read: "Batman and the Monster Men", "Batman and The Mad Monk", "Batman: The Man Who Laughs", "The Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" in that order. They all sort of tie into the events of year one and introduce you to most of the major characters and go into most of the early part of Batman's career.

A couple weeks ago I just finished Green Lantern: Secret Origin, which to me is the definitive origin/Year One story of Hal Jordan. Great artwork, excellent story that ties into things like Blackest Night without needing to even know what that is. Plus it's a major part of the inspiration for the film, so a must read.

JLA:Year One written with Black Canary in a "founder" role after the events of Crisis in the 80's before DC decided to reboot over & over & over again. Written by Mark Waid & art by Barry Kitson. really dope book if you like the League and re-invented old school comic style stories

The Long Halloween and Dark Victory.

Cannot recommend them enough, as far as Year One stuff goes.
