Defenders or Avengers West Coast TV Series
So I'm all hyped for Avengers. Also a big Star Trek Fan and I started realizing
How awesome would it be if Marvel made an Avengers West Coast, or Defenders TV Series, with Direct Ties to the movies. It would be kind of like Star Trek DS9 connected to the TNG Films. The Stars of the Avengers film arent so high that they wont do a guest appearance once a season. Nick Fury and Tony Stark in ep 1 to set up the team. How awesome would this be? Like NCIS but with Super powers and a great way to show off More Marvel Avengers/Defenders heroes outside of films. |
While that would be pretty cool, I don't know how well a show like that would do on television these days, especially if it shares the same universe as several other movies. Smallville did a great job overall, but it never had to sync up with Superman Returns or any of the Batman films.
Continuity would be difficult, though not impossible. It would need an editor of some sort to coordinate all of the outlets (movies, TV, web shows), but even then it's not a guarantee. |
I would like to see marvel tap some of their movie universes like this though I know it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.
A side Avengers or Marvel universe that's self contained in stories yet connects to the others could work as well as Highlander did from movie to series. It'd have to be something low key though like yeah, west coast avengers, Great Lakes Avengers, or Hawkeye and Mockingbird in their own spy series, among many others that are possible. Heck, I'd love to see see an Academy X series pick up where the movies ended, and if not, I'd settle for a degrassi mutant high like Disney XD spin like teenNick has. Another property that'd be great for this is Ghost Rider. Unlike blade where there is only one character with the name, this could use Danny Ketch, and have the nick cage johnny blaze cameo once in a great while like Highlander did for Duncan and Connor. Supernatural is popular, so there's an audience for this kind of material if done right. With Smallville on its way out, Heroes off the air, and Syfy (which tends to have a lower audience expectation) having Alphas, the timing would be perfect for this for tv as well. A live series of people with abilities. Whether it's X-Men, Avengers, New Mutants, Avengers Academy, Academy X, Great Lakes, Young Avengers or more. Want to tap the non-powers for super scifi action and stories? Hawkeye and Mockingbird, Black Widow (same as highlander, you can recast for the other BW instead of Natasha.) Moon Knight, Heroes 4 Hire, New Warriors, Marvel Divas and many others. Want to tap the space epic series? Nova, Darkhawk, Guardians of the galaxy, Captain Marvel, and many others. Occult series? Doctor Strange (his newer apprentice), Ghost Rider (danny ketch), etc. Nearly all of these could be marvel-19999. If they really wanted to get fancy, they could do them all in Marvel-19999 to circumvent some of the contracts like they've been doing with Avengers:EMH having the fantastic 4, Wolverine, among other cameos. Since these are only series, and those characters won't be in the movies, but the series takes place in the same universe as the Avengers movies. ABC, ABC Family, and Disney XD could all use these to varying degrees of live shows depending on the targeted audience. Depending on the characters in question the effects could vary from jett jackson and wizards of waverly place all the way to smallville, or heroes if it's on normal ABC (larger ratings scale on it compared to cable options). Heck, I'd love to see Hasbro opt to do a Rom Space Knight live tv series on Hub, and then work out some one picture deal cameo if the avengers go to space in a later movie. Something like Hasbro is allowed to use the marvel comic galador origins in show, and Marvel can do theatrical rom guest starring so long as it's not a solo title or his name in the title without hasbro's approval per motion picture, still allowing for Hasbro to do their own solo movie-sans marvel characters but including marvel origin, but not denying marvel from using their galador space knights for anything if either of them so later chose. Yeah, something complicated like that. If they feel like it, they could even hire the hercules/Xena/Legend of the seeker people to do a 2099 story. |
That would be very cool if they did anything like you suggested.
My one suggestion would be to hire a continuity expert before any casting or staffing :) |
They could always do a man-thing show.
