I crudely hung a couple fighters in my garage
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_A.../WP_000086.jpg
The hooks I used actually work beautifully and I'm not even sure what they're for. I'd like to find a way to shroud all that wood in something black, and paint the hooks black too. Anyway, it's just nice to get them off the ground and out of the way - especially that huge Y-Wing. |
red x for me, can anyone else see the image?
|
Pics would be good.

Twitpic doesn't cooperate well with forums I guess. Should work now.

Fishing wire. It's your best friend when it comes to hanging this kinda stuff up. Strong as hell and is barely visible. Something to consider. If not, coat hangers/hooks aren't bad. I just like my stuff to have that actually flying/floating look without obvious looking suspension, personally.

I second the fishing line it works awesome is weighted for like 20 lbs and is super cheap so you can keep redoing the display
|
I'll third the fishing line. I've used it to hang Bionicle vehicles with no problems whatsoever.
|
I've seen fishing line used to hang model planes from the ceiling, and ...uh, forth(?) the idea.
As for a way to hide the wooden slats above the fighters, how about black posterboard (or maybe even a black bed sheet)? You can tack them up to the boards above, but still poke small holes through them so you can tie off the fishing line to the boards? Heck, you could even take a white marker pen (or paint) and break up all the black with some scattered stars? -Just a few quick (cheap?) ideas, but I'm sure someone else may come up with something better? |
I have a couple jet model kits hang from fishing line in my closet I would use it.
|
Poster board is a great idea, if it were me, I would have realistic stars printed on them. They way the ceiling looks like outer space.
|
Yeah, I'd agree with fishing wire to hang them and black cloth to cover up the wood. If you use cloth, make sure it's relatively thin so you still have ventillation. You could also poke holes in it and use white Christmas tree lights or fiber optic lights to simulate stars.

I enjoy your method of display because I can easily imagine you doing the main line at an angle then letting the ships slide down on the hangers for "bombing runs" lol ...
For everyone who mentioned fishing line ... what are your preferred methods of adhering it to the vehicle and the ceiling? |
i usually get help from someone, but here's what i suggest:
1. i use hooks with screw ends or if i am going into a ceiling without a stud, drywall hooks (maximize area attached to ceiling.) 2. i use 3 points of support (triangle.) 3. i get someone to help me to figure out how to position the fishing line so i get the position/angle of the vehicles the way i want before i start hanging, then hang. and that usually works great. NOTE: i don't have the cajones to try and hang the 2010 Big Millennium Falcom from my ceiling, though i would really like to, since i have so much trouble with the landing gear on mine. |
