Marvel Universe wave 5 news

Word is out of the latest upcoming Marvel Universe Wave 5. This exciting wave will feature five more characters from the Marvel Universe. Word has it that the five will be: Namor the sub-mariner
Spiderman
Silver Centurion Iron-man
Shocker
Guardian from Alpha Flight

Can't wait to get my hands on these little guys. Be sure to check out your local stores for these babies because I am sure they will sell out fast!

Keep you updated!

ludovicotek 07-03-2009 03:12 AM

Cool, but this already been posted up here.

ShinGetterPrime 07-03-2009 03:33 AM

electro not shocker

i still dont know what the difference on this spider-man, those colors on that pic already came out with wave3, ive read somewhere its supposed to be black (instead of blue) or glossy finish. i dont know whats true. maybe just the packaging and number?

ludovicotek 07-03-2009 04:07 AM

That Spidey is supposed to have black and dark red coloring as well as new art on the card. I guess it's possible that he'll have a new number as well, since new art will be included.

Coner74 07-03-2009 11:35 AM

The spidey is probably the body they used for the black costume spidey with the red and blue paint.

boombatty 07-03-2009 11:47 AM

Wow, Shocker looks surprisingly just like Electro...go figure

deceptifocus 07-06-2009 12:11 AM

these all look suprisingly like shelfwarmers, i dont get it, lets seeeee 6" figs sell out in no time or barely are released at all, and when/where they are theyre a rarity and demand much dinero on ebay........ 3 3/4" figs of GI Joes and Star wars figs shelf warm forever, with the marvel universe figs doing the same....umm yeah lets make more of those.......

ludovicotek 07-06-2009 03:58 AM

Yeah here too.
In fact the 6 inchers are shelf warming here. I still see Ultimate War Machine, Vision & Scarlett Spider everytime I go to my Walmart. Plus they are on clearance for $10 and no one wants them!

decepticon_mark 07-06-2009 04:18 AM

They go like crazy here too with the exception of Johnny Storm, Silver Surfer, Hand Ninja, and Stealth Iron Man. Those seem to warm the pegs.

Marvel Legends are still warming shelves at Big Lots................Big Lots.

trebleshot 07-06-2009 10:03 AM

What does the poll have to do with the title/subject of this thread?

From that pic, it looks like the same body used for the first release. Eletro looks closer to the Black Spidey mold, especially in the waist.

The only consistant peg warmers around here are Johnny (non-flame, blue/black) and the Hand Ninja. Occasionally, others will join them but those two are always the last to leave.

As for ML, the last time I saw them on the shelves was the Hulk/Fin Fang Foom series (and they went to clearance). I'm not even sure if the stores in my area even carry them anymore.

I agree, aside from Guardian, not too impressed.

Hi. I am not a hard-core collector, but this MU line caught my eye at TRU a few weeks back and so far I have everything but a few of the first wavers. That said, is (red) DareDevil supposed to be released with 5? Since it appears that BBTS is pre-ordering unopened boxes and list DD as included Marvel Universe 3.75" Series 05 - Case of 12 - Marvel Figures (Hasbro) Marvel Universe 3.75" at BigBadToyStore

DD, Bullseye, Modern Iron Man and Grey Hulk are all that I am missing in this line so far. Looks like Grey Hulk is coming back and with Classic, Stealth and Silver Cent. Iron Man, I can wait till he's re-released. I figure Bullseye will eventually get re-released one day.

I can't wait till Spidey and Amazing Friends! Watched that tons as a kid. Some sort of X-Jet or Baxter Builder for these guys is needed!

I'm in TX. The stores I go to are Walmart, Target and TRU. Any other brick-n-mortar stores I should be checking?

Comic and specialty shops should carry them, but you'll pay a little more for them. Could be worth it, though. It depends how bad you want them or if you're willing to wait and hope they re-release a specific figure.

I would like to see a Daredevil yellow repaint released. They did costume changes for Human Torch, Thing and Ronin. Though, admittedly, those changes are easier than a yellow Daredevil.

First, welcome to the Toyark!

Second, Bullseye is supposed to be re-released, and I had thought it was supposed to be wave 5. However, given the case description BBTS has, now I'm not so sure. Although it is possible that Bullseye could be part of a case revision for wave 5, which BBTS has not listed yet.

Prem1x 07-10-2009 02:43 PM

Thanks for the info. I'll reach out the local action figure shop. Last I called he did have any MU. Gave the impression that he let them sell out. Don't know if they plan on getting more.

Yellow DD should be in a 3 pack, IIRC.

I'm still picking up some of the collector lingo on here. I figured out MOC and TRU. Not sure about BAC. Any others you can define for me? Thanks.

trebleshot 07-11-2009 06:11 PM

I believe it stands for Blister And Card, but I've usually seen it referred to as BOC (Blister On Card), meaning it was opened but still attached. To me, Blister And Card would mean that they are both present but without stating whether they were attached or separated.

Here are some other common acronyms for collecting purposes:

Acronyms Regarding Condition
MOSC - Mint On Sealed Card. Means that the blister or bubble package is still sealed and has not been compromised in any way.

MOC - Mint On Card. This means the packaging could actually be opened with a mint figure but the blister is still connected to the card back. Lately though, it has become interchangeable with MOSC, though they do not mean the same thing. MOC is comparable to MIB.

MIB - Mint In Box. Means that the figure has been opened but is in mint condition and comes with the box and all packaging. The box itself may or may not be in mint condition, which is why listings for this will usually have some indicator for it listed after (see further down).

MISB - Mint In Sealed Box. This means that the packaging had not been opened in any way. Generally, the condition of the box is good, too, but it is not a guarantee.

Condition scale. This is a scale from 0 to 10 representing either a figure's condition or the packaging condition, where applicable. C0 is practically worthless, and is rarely mentioned. Even an opened baggie is usually a C2 or C3. C10 is perfect and very hard to get, since it means there isn't any discoloration, missing or damaged parts, sticker wear, odors, residue (adhesives, dirt, dust, soda, etc), scratches, dents, dings, cuts or any other damage. Typically, the highest you'll usually find is C8 or C9, known as Near Mint or Mint. These figures (or boxes) are in excellent condition and have only one or two minor issues, which are typically due to factory errors (minor paint application mistakes) or shelf-wear (minor creases on boxes and card backs).

AFA Grading - AFA stands for Action Figure Authority, which is an independent grading company. For a fee, they will review and rate any action figure in or out of packaging. Generally, anything that has been AFA-graded is worth more than a non-graded version of the same figure in the same condition. It's comparable to certified diamonds versus non certified diamonds.

Here is AFA's website, if you want to know more about them: Action Figure Authority ? Home Page

Acronyms Regarding Stores/Online Shops/Sites
WM = Wal-Mart
KM = K-Mart
HTS = Hasbro Toy Shop (Games, Toys, Action Figures, Collectibles, and Gifts - Hasbro Toy Shop)
Matty = Mattel's online store (MattyCollector.com Online Store - Welcome)
BBTS = Big Bad Toy Store (BigBadToyStore.com - Toys, Action Figures, Vintage Toys, and Collectibles)
EE = Entertainment Earth (Action Figures, Toys, Bobble Heads, and Collectibles by Entertainment Earth, the Action Figure Company)
TFW = Transformers World 2005 (our TF sister site, Transformer World 2005)
"The Tank" = Hisstank.com (our G.I. Joe sister site, HissTank.com - G.I. Joe Toy and Movie News and Discussion)

Miscellaneous Acronyms and Terms
MU (Marvel Universe) and FF (Fury Files). Both refer to the same toy line: Hasbro's 3.75" Marvel figures.

BAF = Build-A-Figure. Used mainly when referring to lines where a part is included with each figure in a specific series or wave, and when all the pieces are put together you have a unique figure that is unavailable otherwise. Marvel Legends and Star Wars Droid Factory are examples of toy lines that have had BAF waves.

Re-deco (or redeco) - Short for redecoration, it is a re-release of a particular toy mold with a new color scheme. Contrary to popular belief, this is not the same thing as a "repaint." A re-deco means that the plastic itself was made using different colored dyes during the manufacturing process. It does not mean that the original figure was made and then painted over with the new colors at the factory (read: repaint). A re-deco mean a brand new run of figures were produced. Any factory-applied paint applications would still fall under re-deco if changed, since they only cover a small area of the figure to highlight details of the mold.

An example would be MU's "Flame On" Johnny Storm, which is identical to the non-flame Johnny, except the plastic used was translucent, with different dyes for the color.

Repaint - A released figure where most or all of the existing plastic has been painted over. Should really only be used when referring to custom toys. Unfortunately, a lot of collectors tend to use repaint to mean re-deco, which only tends to confuse the issue. For most toy, it is actually cheaper for manufacturers to change the color of the plastic they use during the manufacturing process than to use the original color in the mold and pay someone else to paint over it using another color.

An example of this would be if someone bought the green MU Hulk and painted his purple paints denim blue. Hasbro would just change the dye, rather than use the purple plastic and then paint over it with blue.

Remold - A re-released figure that has certain parts of its mold altered for various reasons. Going back to MU Hulk, Red Hulk would be an example of a remold. It has a new head and hand, as well as a new deco, but the rest of the mold is the same.

Sorry it's a bit long-winded, but I hope this helps.

Prem1x 07-13-2009 06:42 AM

trebleshot, that was a VERY informative post. Thanks so much! I found the bit about re-deco vs repaint was very interesting.

STLHBKid 07-13-2009 07:36 AM

Trebelshot - the Toyark should put that up in a place of it's own so everyone can refer to it, rather than trying to find this thread again... Maybe under a "Newbie" type of place?

trebleshot 07-13-2009 12:20 PM

Hmmm. Might be a good fit for GD. I'll look into it.

Spidey looks the same as darker paint we got recently. The difference is the card art and he is upside down.

ludovicotek 07-15-2009 08:19 PM

I'll be getting them all except Iron Man. I really like that new color scheme on Spidey. I got the original release one with the lighter blue. I have been tempted to buy the repaint but now I'm going to wait for this one instead. Plus he has a new number, not 002, so that's a plus.

Snowflakian 07-15-2009 10:01 PM

I'll be getting them all cept spidey, and maybe electro.
Just wish they were out already. I have cap and UJ, but a canadian and atlantis representative would be nice. =D
