Which Destroyer is for you?

I know when we start getting a little too into scale, things can get messy, but I was recently looking at some of the Thor figs I'd like to own (there aren't many), and which versions, etc,. Marvel's Destroyer is one I had always planned on getting, but wasn't sure how I'd feel about the 3.75" (is he taller??) line's version with him obviously not being very large. So I ended up getting the 8" plastic statue version of him (which is currently on Amazon for $13 w/ the free 2 day Prime shipping deal). If I see the 3.75" version in store and it's somehow a super-must-have, I'll get him then, but this is one figure I feel I need almost no articulation on at all for what he is as a character. He's just going to stand there.. I'm not going for any sort of super-poses. And, I think this version's scale is a very "nice fit" in the 3.75" world.

So, do you guys care about your Destroyer's scale? Screw scale, you need elbows and knees? You already have some older line's version of him (if so, which?) that's too awesome to be bothered with the movie versions?

luketheduke04 06-07-2011 10:19 AM

i planned on the 3.75 scale, but my kids will want the taller one, ( my boys love the villians) i wish i could have the marvel legends destroyer, that would be sweet.

omega145 06-07-2011 10:46 AM

I enjoy the too scale figures but the Thor line 3.75 inch Destroyer looks good. I dont care for the plastic version at all.
Look at the Hulk, Juggernaut, Apocalypse and other Marvel Universe figures. They are slightly bigger than other figures but not really to scale. I love them anyway but just picked up a Hulk Movie Line figure to use with the rest of the Marvel Universe figures to have a more to scale Hulk figure.

I planned on getting the larger 8'' version to fit in scale, I've seen youtube reviews on both, and the paint aps and overall sculpt of the 3 3/4'' figures are nicely done, half the reason I wanted the 3 3/4'' scale version is so I could mod 1 into a Thorbuster Armour for my Iron Man armoury.. he was always 1 of my favorite suits. Anybody see the custom 8'' scale version Jin Saotome did? it's unreal!

omega145 06-07-2011 11:03 AM

Yes its insane, he does amazing customs. Here's a link for those that havent seen it.

I've got the Marvel Legends Destroyer, and it's pretty sweet. I still might get the 3.75" one if it looks cool enough in person, though.

Yeah, I like that one. I'd be all over it if it wasn't $60+ online.

If the 3.75" looks to small, i'll get the larger version and mod the 3.75" into a HYDRA/AIM Dreadnaught!

Tiberius 06-07-2011 12:28 PM

I would be happy with any Destroyer I can get my hands on.

Optimus Vader 06-07-2011 01:23 PM

I'm sure I'll get the 3.75" version when (if) I see him in a store, but I really think the 8" version is almost perfect in scale.. I posted a link in my opening post to him on Amazon. The 3.75" version is also available for $17 shipped.

Jason Abbadon 06-07-2011 02:12 PM

Not much articulation on the 8" Destroyer though, is there?

Nope,.. damn near none. In other words, he's as articulated as the 3.75-4" Green Lantern line.. ba dum ching!

I usually don't think twice when there's no articulation, but I think this is the ONE character that I don't feel needs much. I saw some pictures with this version standing next to Thor and Ironman (3.75") and just thought it looked perfect.

Big, slow, and stiff,... that's what I want in a Destroyer. "That's what she said."

Jason Abbadon 06-07-2011 02:54 PM

Se...I tend to agree. I'm skipping all the GL line over it's total lack of articulation. Why bother making the legs move at the hip if you cant use it to repose the figure at all?
it's like a giant Star Wars (original line) figure.

Besides, the Destroyer in the comics is no where near that big, I go for a more comic-oriented collection. In the comics, the Destroyer is maybe slightly larger than Thor himself- it was designed as an armor for Odin after all to fight the Celestrials (which it totally failed at, but still). thor even wore the armor at one point- along with his Belt of Strength and Mjolnir.
Kinda overkill there, but hey, he'd been cursed by Hela at the time with the bones of an old man.

Note: dont piss off Hela.

Me too.. I just don't know a ton about Thor. Thanks for the info. If I can find one, I would like to get that "Inferno" Destroyer in the 3.75" line. Then I'll have one big and one small Destroyer :D

Jason Abbadon 06-07-2011 03:16 PM

Destroyer and "mini me" Destroyer! HA!
You can also go to 7-11 and get your official academy Award Destroyer (it's a Slurpee cup of the Destroyer in the size of an academy award).

Here is proper scaling for the two:

And here is Thor in that armor!

Redlantern161 06-07-2011 05:08 PM

I'd also say don't piss off Thor caus efrom what i read he came down & Chris Brown'd her so he'd get his normal body back
