Check out these new images of the new "Avatar" Movie Toys from Mattel:

The small figures look lame, like the current Star Trek and Terminator lines. Although their likenesses look okay.

The vehicles look okay, though. Their designs are very similar to pre-existing stuff (Exosquad mech, Sigma 6 Dragonhawk, Halo Warthog).

I wonder just what the impact of Avatar will be? I'm sensing some cracks in the hype machine.

topnotch97 07-22-2009 11:47 PM

good thing i'm buying less from the RoC toy line.

ludovicotek 07-23-2009 05:08 AM

Must have that mech.

trebleshot 07-23-2009 05:49 AM

I find it funny that all of the packages have "Highly Articulated" stamped on them, or as part of the accessory list.

I might see the movie at some point, but pass on the figures. Never was that into the show.

PyroniusRex 07-23-2009 07:14 AM

What's Avatar? I've never heard of this line.

Never into the show? These are based on the upcoming film by James Cameron, not based on a show.

Computron34 07-23-2009 02:23 PM

Yeah these are from the upcoming movie Avatar. Not the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

trebleshot 07-23-2009 03:03 PM

*does a quick Google search*

Ah. No wonder I was confused about that one toy looks like Sigourney Weaver (who it is supposed to be, apparently).

The only "Avatar" I was aware of was the anime, and that I saw a preview for the film when I went to see ROTF.

That S6 Dragonhawk will be mine...as will that Mech.

Being a huge Battletech fan (25 years, Freebirth toads!), I'm going to have to get that 'mech.

Shogi 07-23-2009 10:52 PM

I want to see theat Mech, I wonder if it's a retool of the S6 Iron Hammer (or maybe even the unreleased version?)

EDIT: nevermind...I didn't look at the FIRST picture Doh! :) Definately Sigma 6 inspired designs though....I do see a potential figure I'll have to buy just for his 1:18" wheelchair accessory though!

The Mech and S6 Dragonhawk lookalike are both chock full of win IMO...they're going to make GREAT Iron Grenadier Vehicles :D

vadersquest 07-25-2009 10:44 AM

I am not feeling this line......
I guess it will have to be a wait and see gig. I do think the movie will be a blast so at least I have that to look forward too.

Tracker 07-25-2009 12:48 PM

So is Mattel saying how much this will cost?

topnotch97 07-25-2009 03:48 PM

is this movie animated (cgi) or live-action (w/ real actors)?

Live actors combined with CGI characters in mostly CG environments.

BUT........

word is the quality of CG is like NOTHING we have ever seen before. Everything is astonishingly like-like and completely realistic looking. I can't wait to see footage of this.

Also announced: On August 21 they will be showing FREE 15-minute screenings of the film in digital theatres across the world.

Shin Densetsu 07-25-2009 04:12 PM

The figures utilize the famed 4H t-crotch, and the vehicles look amazing! Definitely not as out of scale as other 3-3/4" vehicle offerings. I'm impressed!
