In box advice

whats up fellow arkers! ive been a long time reader but i just recently decied to join up. i have a question for everyone. i have a "wall of fame" where i have all my inbox figures and i was wondering what u guys opinion would be on what i have up there. in terms of rarity....

Marvel Legends--series 1 stealth armor ironman, hulk toad & cap

Marvel Universe-frost giant & loki, blue/red warpath, grey hulk, jim lee cyclops
hulk buster ironman (from IM2 movie line) juggernaut, WW hulk, skrull soilder
cap movie line red skull, spiderman 2099

oh yea i also just got a Marvel Select gambit up there, and a spiderman classics black suit spiderman which is the oldest

let me guys know what would u keep on the wall, and what u would open

peace out, Legend up

I only have 3 MU figures on my wall. Variant Packaging Spider Man, House of M Spider Man and Red Hulk. As for Select, I have Red Hulk on display because at the time my brother was saying it was rare. Sure enough its not, so he will go with my Legends collection once I find a spot for him, seeing he's HUGE. Other than that I open everything and have them on display, not saying if I had extra funds I would have one MOC on my wall too. but I don't lol.

sevens 06-24-2011 12:36 AM

Were it me, I'd leave up the Series one Marvel Legends (great figures to have, worth a lot, good job!) and probably the Spider-Man figure, too. I have all the Marvel Universe figs and opened them up greedily. As far as Gambit, I feel like the Marvel Select figures are sort of MEANT for display. They just look better set up and out of the package, I think.

i was thinking that 2 about gambit, but i make scale battle displays and i have the ML gambit already open..and you would think tha spiderman cost alot but i think the higest one i found on ebay was 25 bucks lol

It's not done yet but I recently bought something to go on my wall- I got the head to the BAF Fin Fang Foom for $5.
It's going on a wooden plaque as soon as I can buy some wood stain and mount it like a trophy.

omega145 06-24-2011 03:43 AM

That's all up to you. Almost all of those items are not that hard to find or worth that much at all. I like to display everything loose to have a hands on feel and at the same time be able to pose them.
It's all a matter of of opinion when displaying things loose or not.

Tarquinius 06-24-2011 05:52 AM

It is going to definitely differ from collector to collector. The main point is: what is your end game in your collection?

Do you want to sell it back for profit?
Do you want to customize figures?
Dioramas?
Play with them and then just let your kids have them and just kinda lose track of it?

Either way, what you want out of your collection will dictate how you treat your collection.

Example: I'm a completionist who opens up all the figures. But I'm never really that concerned with intial paint apps because what I do is I put all my figures into different boxes. I have a box that is all Avengers (past present), Villians, Mutants, Army Builders, and other (I need to buy more boxes!!! they are OVERFLOWING)

But because they are in the same box, sometimes the paint apps rubs off on to different figures. My Vision and Moon Knight's capes have speckles of different colors from just being thrown around among other figures. Now this may sound like Toy Hell to some people (HOW COULD YOU!!! VISION!!!!!!??? HE IS ONE OF THE RAREST GUYS GOING)

BUT my endgame is purely pleasure and I'm not looking to sell or even make a profit.

Tarquinius 06-24-2011 05:53 AM

Oh and by the way! Welcome to the Forums. Glad to see you joined up. Hope you stick around :)

frodotrout 06-24-2011 10:36 AM

action figures,as with all toys, are meant to be played with, not to be hoarded or speculated on by adults, but for the pleasure of kids, we seem to have forgotten that fact over the years, how many of us think back to when we were children, and say "if i only still had that 12" gi joe in the box or that major matt mason complete with all their acc.", but thats the point, toys were and are meant to be played with, posed, blown up, sling shotted, acc. lost and broke, whatever, you guys get my drift, not treated like retirement pieces, anyway, openn the damn things and enjoy them, play with them, pose them, smell them, for that is what they were made for, sorry for rambling, besides if your that concerned about keeping them carded or boxed, buy two

quinten182 06-24-2011 12:10 PM

I somewhat agree. I open everything outside of very valuable things that I paid a valuable amount for (Legends Deadpool for example) or if it's a duplicate that I don't need an army of. However, almost all my variants in the MU line are in package on the wall. This was simply a preference thing to separate variants from the others. If it's a suit like the dark ms. marvel, I open it to display with the dark avengers, but if it's just a recoloring/phasing/etc. then it stays in package just because it looks cool having a variant wall. But to each their own overall..

hi , sounds good , i got a marvel legends loose baf sentinel ( with no of the figures got off ebay) marvel legends nick fury , magneto, astonshing wolverine, deapool, punisher ( thomas jane version) a custom daredevil , repaint of colossus, red ironfist , custom giantman, ghost rider (series 3) . Then i have the 2 of 6 inch wave of iron man2 which are war machine and ironman :D . Marvel legends face off kingpin , spiderman classics sandman , then movie figures again which are the human torch , dr doom , juggernaut ( not movie version but figures realsed by toy biz) sabertooth (like the juggernaut) and finally ironmonger and i had only started collecting about 4-3 years ago !!! so marvel legends baf fans look on ebay!!! . I will hopefully be adding the black spiderman form the spiderman classics / origins cause mine broke :(

None of those are rare,.. the Frost Giant/Loki set is probably the most difficult to come by of what you listed, but not rare. If you like the in-package look of them then I say leave them up on your wall of fame. I open my stuff, but I do like the look of them in package too.

I don't have a wall of fame, but I do have doubles of some figures I really like and have been thinking of doing something similar with a wall in my closet.

Dude. That has got to be the longest run-on sentence I have ever read! You make some good points, though :)

I think you misread his original post he said he has a Series 1 Stealth Iron man, which if I'm not mistaken MOC sells for $150+ on ebay! also he said he had toad and cap, which are atleast $50-100. The rest I'll be it nice figures aren't very rare or valuable. Definatley keep the Marvel Legends stuff MOC, as it will gain more value overtime.

Personally I believe in opening all/most of my figures. I am a completist at heart, I'd love to have every figure in every wave of stuff I love but due to space limitations and budget limitations I make do with what I can afford and what I can find. I have some rare/ more expensive figures, such as my SDCC THOR, Iron man 2 3pack box sets, Ashley wood 3a marine Bramble, hulk statue, etc. I have opened some of them but kept the packaging for all, and the rare one's I opened are mainly due to easily being able to put them back, aka shadowboxes. If I came across a figure that was rare such as a variant, error figure etc like a ML deadpool, bibeast, gargoyle man etc, I'd definatley keep them MOC, if I have the extra flow to snag double then I'd keep 1 moc and 1 loose, but I tend not to buy doubles, unless someone is in need. I definatley have some figures that I wish I kept MOC for reselling purposes now, but we can't all predict what will be valuable or rare until later on when the figure is no longer made.

I do have a strong belief that any toy that costs me over $100 I gotta keep the box and all parts, I don't have to keep him MOC but atleast have the ability to make him look MOC. I'm hoping to be me making a tranaction soon with a local collector for an Irom Man Mark 3, battle damaged Hot Toys figure in exchange for $100 and some toys, you can count on 2 things, 1 I will be opening it, and 2 the package will be kept.

I think we all have ideas of what is rare/going to be rare etc, any variant, repaint, error figure has the potential to become rare etc, but then so does any figure... 1 million spiderman figures made, but if your the only guy who has one moc 30 yrs from now, you maybe laughing. The market/collector itself does dictate value a lot.
