Figure Displays and Diorama Discussion

Most of my shelves are homemade shop project from when my parents were in highschool. But today, I found this thing.

Some of you have really epic city dioramas for displaying your stuff. I have to make do with the city stuff from my mom's Fisher Price collection. :P

http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/DSCN0150.jpg

I used to have them displayed on an old wooden Pepsi crate mounted on the wall. Neat stuff.

Good thread to post ideas, suggestions and share pics. Can't beat nature shots when trying to ball on a budget with dios. Grass, trees, shrubs are all free!

Check out businesses that are closing for free or very cheap display shelves and cabinets. The IKEA detolf displays are not that expensive and simple bookcases are a decent way to store a collection.

bmorr 08-09-2011 04:48 PM

thrift shops. always old furniture at those for a decent price. Also Big Lots. If you dont care about your walls like me lol, I use a adjustable rack system they sell at any home improvement store. Beats the hell out of assembling overpriced Ikea furniture.

Just found this building on clearance at Target. Figured it could be useful as another store front in a dio. I think I might give it a slight paint wash and make my own sign. Pretty good for $7.50.

While I would love to do diorama displays, I just don't have the space available. So I tend to use book shelves and whatever else I can find to act as backdrops.

Is this place near your jungle location where the Cobra's hid out?

This is awesome. :D I never thought of this before as a valid use for my son's fisher price and playskool city sets. Now I might have to try it out, lol.

It looks so stupid, but in a comical sort of way. My mom collects all that stuff, and we've got a New York apartment building, airport, city block, barn, school, 2-3 houses... once I get my work area set up, imma take some silly pictures with the little people and Hammer Drones.

behindthemask 08-10-2011 12:03 PM

would be awesome if u got a bandsaw and cut some of the livestock in half then have Iron Man using his repulsars.

I just gave away a bunch of playsets to Good Will. Should've asked if anyone on here wanted them first. Would've been free + actual shipping costs. Had the original TMNT Sewer Playset (complete), the Gobots shuttle base, it was incomplete but would've made a nice multi-level battle station and the motion detector alarm system still worked, original Snake Mountain missing a couple of pieces and the mic wire was ripped off but could easily have been soldered back on, the MASK gas station/mountain base thing.

On another similar note, a GREAT playset that I still have and intend to keep that I could definitely stand behind would be the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles modern playset found here:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles LAIR Playset Action Figure | eBay

It looks and plays awesome and doubles as a storage unit.

ludovicotek 08-10-2011 01:39 PM

^ haha. I just gave away that Ninja Turtles playset, not even a month ago. Did the Goodwill thing myself, too. I liked it, but it was HUGE!!!! I had too many playsets and had to clear up some room. I gave away that ninja turtles playset, the 200X Castle Greyskull, Sherwood Forest, Pirates of the Caribbean playsets, Death Star and a few others. I thought about offering them up here, but it's hard for me to make it out to the post office, let alone having to find huge boxes and pack everything up. I figured hopefully a little kid can get some fun playsets for cheap.

Boba Fettuccini 08-10-2011 01:47 PM

You gave away a Death Star playset!? Surely not the vintage one?

ludovicotek 08-10-2011 01:50 PM

^ Yup. I know, I know. I actually still have another one if anyone is interested? Not sure how complete it is though.

bmorr 08-10-2011 03:18 PM

all this talk makes me tempted to check ebay for the danger room playsets from the 90s xmen line. oh and the x jet they had.

atomicsmurf 08-10-2011 04:58 PM

Browne & Ashley Tea Co. Making Men of Iron since 1879.

Wow, you could of made some $$ on ebay or on here for that stuff for sure... but I guess a selfless deed feels better then a pocket full of $20's.

Do Boy 08-10-2011 10:14 PM

Don't know if anyone has seen or posted this but these sets only go for about 20 bucks. A bit kiddy if you ask me thou but not to bad

I'm kinda interested but I don't know if I have room for it. It would certainly make displaying my old POTF stuff easier though...

Go Joe super tank is also a great play set. Fit up to 40 figures that just with pegs still plenty of space for more.

ludovicotek 08-14-2011 08:21 PM

Bought a couple of these wall cubes on sale from Target. I figured they would be good to use on a shelf to help out with wasted space. You can arrange them however you want. They're pretty cool. I can even see them being used as a base for buildings or structures, and be built upon.
