The End of Retail DCUC: Clearance & Closeouts

As yet another sign of the impending DC Universe Classics apocalypse, I just saw at the Deerfield, IL TRU that all yellow-carded DCUC figures have been marked down to $9.99, on "sale" through 09/03/2011.

I previously posted in the Wave 17 thread that these figures had been marked down to $9 at the Walmart in Niles, IL. The price tag on the peg/shelf noted these as "clearance."

Lastly, (also at the same Walmart) all Green Lantern Classics (green-carded) figures were similarly marked down to $9 as "clearance."

If you have seen any peg warmers at your local TRU that are worth $10 to you, now is probably the time, folks.

KshatriyaNZ666 08-12-2011 01:21 PM

Yay, I can finally pick up that ugly peg-warmin' Omac to finish off my Validus Collect-n-Connect now!

Thanks for the update hrothgars! I'll be checking out my usual stores this weekend to see if their DCUC are on clearance as well. (I live in Connecticut)

Crazy Jetty 08-12-2011 03:11 PM

None of the places near me has them on clearance. In fact, they're all getting fresh stock of the Superfriends wave, and oddly, the Darkseid wave.

RiZ 08-12-2011 03:44 PM

None of the walmarts near me have the DCUC on sale. the little bit of GLC were $9. I did see all of wave 12 at tjmaxx for $6.99 each.

KshatriyaNZ666 08-14-2011 02:04 PM

Stopped by Walmart and only the GLC figs were on clearance (for $ 9.00). DCUC was stll $15- something. Guess that OMAC will hafta wait.

Steevy Maximus 08-14-2011 04:22 PM

Considering the weak performance of Green Lantern movie product, and the fact Mattel hasn't even talked about new waves for Classics, it doesn't surprise me that GL Classics is getting cleared out.

Just because DCUC is "on sale" does NOT mean they are getting rid of it this soon (especially TRU, they've been doing those sales for years). That said, if your Walmart is marking them as "clearance", it means they don't intend to continue carrying that item at that store. Mattel has solicited product through wave 20, which won't hit for several months.

DCUC will likely to still be as readily available as it has ever been until next spring in most markets that still get them. You are probably not going to see widespread clearancing until next summer to clear out the old line before the rebranded DC line is launched in the summer/fall.

Autobot_Goldbug 08-14-2011 05:43 PM

I wouldn't put it past Mattel to sell these only online like MOTUC.

Some folks don't seem to have been paying much attention these past couple weeks....

I now they are doing an online subscription. However they could technically pull them off all shelves & keep sales to themselves.
They have said several times stores are interested in MOTUC & that they told those stores "no way."

bmorr 08-15-2011 09:25 AM

I don't collect DC, but if they put out 3" like marvel, Id buy some up real quick.

As a former walmart employee, that is wrong. No useful information can be gathered by what Walmart puts on clearance or not. It is up to the local store managers to decide what gets clearanced out (And most usually refuse to clearance anything without months of pushing by the department supervisor).

They will clearance out older "shelfwarming" stock in order to get newer stock from the backroom onto the salesfloor. I can sometimes find older waves of DCUC in the clearance section while finding newer figures on shelves in the toy isle.
Sometimes they clearance things to get rid of a line altogether. Sometimes just to move on to fresher stock.
Point being, you really can't assume that because something is clearanced, it means they're done with it.

I worked at Walmart myself. Guess my toy management did really suck, as I really never saw that occur at my store (basically the only things clearanced were discontinued items, they never did "temporary clearance" to clear out old stock, even on lines like Star Wars which at one point had figures from FOUR different brandings on the shelves)

The store I worked at, it virtually took an act of god to clearance *anything.* I worked in the produce department, and if we were over stocked on anything (IE, Watermelons in the summer, Pumpkins in the fall, Grapes/Strawberries in season), it was pulling teeth to get our store director to allow us to reduce them to sell before they spoiled. And it was that way all across the store, for any department.
That's where I learned that it was Store Director's discretion to allow things to be clearanced.
However, all the other local stores (the other three I kept watch over, in my toy hunting range) would all clearance out toys, as well as other items to move them off pegs for fresher product. Where as, in my personal store (like yours it seems) we would just sit on them until they mysteriously vanished a year or more later.

So you just apparently had a stingy manager, like I did. (We've lost tens of thousands of dollars in produce because he wouldn't let us reduce them to move, where had he let us we may have only lost hundreds.)

Actually in q&a months back(or somewhere), Mattel did in fact say that Classics wave 2 would be the last GL Classics wave.

hrothgars 10-24-2011 07:26 PM

All DC Universe Classics, Green Lantern Classics, and Batman Legacy figures are currently marked at $9.99 each at Kmart.

I scored a Golden Age Batman & Bat-Mite!

Oh woww thats freakig excellent! I may need to pick up some stuff.

LXL_Guy 10-24-2011 08:55 PM

GL Classics was clearance out a few months back on my end for $5.

Otherwise DCUC is still pretty much holding steady at the normal price point.

Fortune 10-24-2011 09:11 PM

I wish Kmart had wave 19 already. As it stands even with this great sale its not worth it for me unless I can get Batman with Batmite

God I wish we had K-Mart up in Canada. I'd finally buy myself that damn Joker. Oh well, I'm low on cash anyways...

You REALLY got to hate Mattel sometimes.

Haven't seen any DC products on clearance at Walmart yet. In fact, one of them recently refreshed their stock of GLC for some reason. Also saw a lot of Kamandi's wave for DCUC, whichever one that is (I don't keep track of DC stuff like I do with Marvel).

solidwii 10-25-2011 06:03 AM

my wm put them in the clearance section at the low price of $15.97

bmorr 10-25-2011 07:31 AM

theyre like 17 at one of my targets, but walmarts are like 14.99.
