Should every MU figure come with a stand?

Pretty simple question, yes or no? The first few waves never came with any and I can understand why, extra plastic equals extra cost, make the product as cheap as possible to manufacture and sell, hope it does well and if it does, take the profits and reinvest them into better paint, sculpt and accessories. Which as the waves progressed this stuff did start to get implimented. We can see the difference between series 1 iron man and bleeding edge iron man, sure there's repaints, remolds and repacks there has to be, but the 1 thing that pisses me off is spending $20 on a comic 2 pack and not getting any bases, keep the comic give me the bases!

When I heard off the Avengers box set, and FF4 set I was pretty sure we'd see a larger communal base to display them all, but nothing, not even singular bases. To me this is a no brainer, you use the same mold for every base, all your doing is adding the lettering, which gets digitall painted x100000. The could even make generic black ones and most of us would of been fine. Are you cool with getting no base? or is it another example of Hasbro cutting corners when there's no reason to?

thechris 08-29-2011 10:45 PM

I don't even use my bases because not all of them came with bases and I'm a stickler for consistency.

Evantainment 08-29-2011 10:50 PM

I love stands, and every toy ever made should come with one! Given, sometimes they don't need them, and that's fine, but I find that most of my figures fall over just because I looked in their general direction.

Marvel Universe (and G.I.Joe) should always have stands.

Snowflakian 08-29-2011 10:55 PM

A resounding yes. Every figure should come with a stand. The numbers and names can be left off for the multipack ones for cost, but the stand should still be included.

Plus this way if you build up excess blank stands for whatever reason, you can pass them on to your other figures that don't have em!

Same. I only use bases if the figure has trouble standing.

This. I don't need a comic, plus the comic makes the package super big, so I have more stuff to throw away. LOL. Just give me a stand please. But I guess MOC people don't have to worry about stands. LOL. Heck... charge me a $1 more for the CP if you have to... just give me my stands!

This. Just give me generic blank stands; that way Hasbro can save some money on the printing... or at least sell official generic stands by the 50.

Colder Soldier 08-29-2011 11:21 PM

Yes.

Every single figure should come with a stand, and they need to take the damn numbers off!

Hasbro is always doing something dumb with the stands. Like when all the GIJoe stands had "Codename: ..." written on them. Obviously the person in charge of figure stands is full of bad ideas.

I just think the person in charge of stands for HASBRO is the " Walmart greeter " of their design team, some guy who sits in a small shitty cubicle, which a computer, and a dictionary to make sure he spells Cyclops right, and his boss told him you can add a # beside the name w.e the fuck you want, because it doesn't mean shit, it's not like Wolverine plays pro sports and has a jersey and the # means shit haha. Fuck Hasbro, it's simple stuff like this that annoys the shit out of me. OCD alert!

thechris 08-29-2011 11:45 PM

I can't see blank stands happening unless Hasbro does something like Mattel and develop a Collector Friendly outlet like Mattel did with MattyCollector.

deadpool 08-30-2011 12:00 AM

Yes Its odd how they dont come with stands.

Good Stuff 08-30-2011 12:02 AM

Everytime Hasbro releases a figure/pack without the stand is like a kick in the nuts. They go so far in providing decent figures and even nicer packaging art instead of including vital accessories/stand. Just give us blank generic stands for f' sakes, and round ones if you want to cheap out and reduce plastic use/costs.

thechris 08-30-2011 12:24 AM

Well, if you're not concerned of the shape of the stands anyway, you could just order generic stands online. There are tons of them.

The numbers help for collectors and come in handy when trying to make the checklists. If it wasn't for the stands many of the figure numbers wouldn't be in the checklist now making it easier for others to find them on shelves. Though I can see why it'd be annoying for those that don't like having a break in the numbers on their figures. Going from 14 to then 17 is weird, and having repeated numbers because there's no series or year designation makes it even weirder. If there was no starting over on the numbers or they had some sort of first letter designation in the numbers like S01(Shield), H01(hammer), R01(Steve Rogers) then it wouldn't be much of an issue, but too late now. I mean it's not like they'll ever use that 3 digit place since they just restart the numbering every new series now. Kind of wish they did use the full numbers(no restart), then it'd be easier to keep a tally of how many MU have been made single carded.

As for the GI Joe Codename: That's fine to leave it. It's not like it is the characters real name. In the times it is, just leave the codename: part off.
I mean it's not like I think Snake Eyes birth name is actually snake eyes.

Though "Codename: Cobra Viper" is just stupid since it's a rank or army, not an individual's real name or codename, but "Codename: Destro" or Codename: Zartan is perfectly fine. In the second examples, it adds to the whole espionage aspects of GI Joe, in the first example, it just looks ridiculous.

There isn't really an excuse as to why they're not included with everything. A lot of the older MU figures are wonky as hell to stand up. Big dudes like the hulk, and Apocalypse are fine without them, but getting Bullseye, Vision, Black Panther, and whoever else to stand and not fall over when the wind blows is a damn challenge.

Exactly, well I figure the first waves didn't carry them to cut down on costs to help break even/make profit within the line then start giving back to the collector which is why we now see them in the single carded figures. The numbers doesn't really bug me,but there's no reason why they can't slide 2 inbehind the comic book with the 2 packs or 3 in the bottom of the deluxe packs, they're stands not guns of flame piece they don't need to be displayed within the box graphics, tucked away with the fury file cards ands plastic ties is fine with me. And they could be doing something uniquue with the deluxes packs, like that xmen 5 pack box set would of been cool to get a base for each figure with a 70th anniversary type sticker or a big base for all them to be posed onto, its a pattern that takes little time to design and cost to excute, how hard is it to design a circle with avengers written on it and 4 sets of pegs... just saying.

Speaking of which. This doesn't make sense to me.
We just celebrated 70 years of marvel. Now coming up we're celebrating marvel's 50th anniversary. Anniversaries go up, not down. What the hell Marvel. xD

Think he's refering to the sdcc 4pack exclusive 70th anniversary edition MU set which featured, red skull, human torch, captain america, and Namor.

vs the 5 pack that was recently released that had storm, cyclops, wolverine, nightcrawler and Warbird. which was branded as 35th anniversary. but could be wrong...

thechris 08-30-2011 01:41 AM

It's 35th anniversary of the Giant Size X-Men comic.

omega145 08-30-2011 02:27 AM

Of course, I've said this before and ill say it again. How is it that every GI Joe comes with a stand and a bunch of accessories while most MU come with nothing? It's a rip off, same priced toy but yet you get more for your money with GI Joes. At the very least every single MU should have a figure stand but Hasbro can not even give us those accessories. Like most of everyone here, ill keep complaining and then keep buying but this is a big reason why I've shifted into collecting GI Joes more recently.

i feel the same way. have u seen some of the stuff snake eyes come with? man punisher could use those weapons too. and joes cost maybe a dollar less then mu's out here

perrych 08-30-2011 03:11 AM

I'm sure Hasbro would say, "Look, it was either you get stands or you get HERBIE. We would rather you get another character." They have even been telling folks not to expect Joe figures to come with lots of extras in the future do to production costs in China going up. I guess the lesson is to expect more of this in months to come. I have noticed fewer figures coming with the SFX that attached to their hands that the early figures seem to ALWAYS come with. So, it's not just the stands that are being left out some times.

Reaver Strike 08-30-2011 05:08 AM

I think the figures should come with something. $8 or so for just a figure of their size without an accessory is a bit much. I remember when Legends came out. I could get a 6" figure with a base, accessories, and a comic for the same price.

bmorr 08-30-2011 05:17 AM

i prefer the stands now due to my ceiling fan knocking down figures everyday. But stands only count for sixty precent of my figs. I waiting for a third party company to make some. its not hard to make these bases.
my idea would be to pick up a two part resin mold kit. Ive worked with it before doing Industrial Design. Its fifty bucks for the whole shebang. Now I wish I had the extra money!!
