List your worst... gift... ever...

LOL. Everyone has had them. A friend or relative caught glimpse that you collect action figures or whatnot and while their heart is in the right place, they buy you something very underwhelming.

You're put on the spot, the gift is unwrapped, you force a smile and fight the urge to cringe. Off the top of my head:

A Superman beachball
Expired Marvel Superhero calendars
A sticker sheet featuring photos of Brandon Routh as Superman
Crappy Dollarama wrestling figures from the flea market

Try to keep these toy/collectible related. :)

We cant remember ever receiving a bad gift.
But only because of our policy:Never open gits in front of the person that gave it to you!

That's a good policy lol.

Well If we are keeping it toy related I can't say I have gotten a bad gift. But My mom knows that I loved collecting Star Wars (at the time) and got me a Prince Xizor and Leia Organa Comic 2 pack which I already had. I just smiled, hugged her, and told her I loved her :)

Mastersteef 08-31-2011 07:33 PM

A jar jar binks figure when episode I first came out, and I was more excited about that than the Darth Maul figure I had gotten as well... o-O Geez, was I mentally handicapped or something when I was younger?

thechris 08-31-2011 07:33 PM

Geez guys, you're lucky. LOL. Why do I end up with the cornball stuff? :p

Crazy Jetty 08-31-2011 07:44 PM

My mom routinely asks me what I want. I tell her. I'll even give her links to stores. And never get them.

I asked for MP Thundercracker, while he was still readily available. And ended up with a gigantic 3' tall meerkat statue.
I've got all sorts of wall clings, posters, pillowcases, blankets and such for the transformer movies... I *hate* the bay designs.
She also routinely gives me alcohol. I don't drink. (Although she hasn't given me any in a few years).

I'm sorry, that's absolutely hysterical. LOL.

Yeah, lol.
It sat on my drier for a while, because I just don't know what the hell to do with it.

behindthemask 08-31-2011 08:19 PM

If it's liqour you can sell it, doesn't normally go bad. My folks aren't much for giving gifts ie bday, easter, xmas etc that are random, they say make a list of what you want and circle the main things, I may get em all or the odd thing. My dad got me a spiderman themed easter basket full of random shit, most was garbage but the spiderman garbage can was kinda cool, nice artwork. Any really shitty gift though gets, taken back for something useful. Lately I'll just ask for gift certifcates for walmart, zellers, groceries or tattoos, that way I get something I want but I get to decide what, and if I'm just given $$ I'll end up blowing it on some dumb shit like takeout or rent.

Dagger 08-31-2011 09:49 PM

Lunchboxes
Old PC Marvel Video Games that I can't play on my computer, because they're that old
Valor Vs Venom single packs (I hate getting them, because I know the person giving it to me paid way to much for them)
Stuff I don't collect

I know it's a vague list, but I'm given this kind of stuff all the time. Even after I ask for something exact.

Worst gift was from my uncle when I was like 13-14, he seen I was into music and bought me Hanson and the backstreet boys cd's, I asked my mom for the reciept, she wasn't going to ask for it because she thought I should give it a listen, so I squeezed the cases cracking them, and returned them defective, and got new ones nirvana and rchp... much better lol.

xhavoc86 08-31-2011 10:30 PM

I thought this thread was about toy/collectible gifts.....yay for the many new threads and posts on this forum!
Im appreciative towards whatever I get as long as they have good intentions. I hope all of you receive coals in your stocking this Christmas.

ORIO 09-01-2011 07:15 AM

a build a bear...

menicus 09-01-2011 07:28 AM

My grandmother (rest her soul) was queen of the "almost" gift...

I once asked her for a denim jacket... she bought me a denim vest.
I once asked for an Apple IIc (showing my age :P)... she got me an Apple IIe.

But the worst gift I ever got (didn't even ask for it)....

Picture this.... A sweater.... green, blue, red and yellow.... paisley.... ON argyle.... I wore it the next Christmas just so she could see me in it and promptly "lost" it. I can't believe anyone even DESIGNED that thing, much less got someone to buy it.

Toywise... I once got a model truck from a brother-in-law. I don't have a model collection and I was 30. Sigh.

One year for my birthday, I was around 7 or 8, my next door neighbor told me that they had bought me a Hulk Hogan figure as my present. Well, it was supposed to be a surprise, but my friend couldn't help but tell me. I was soooo excited. For the next couple days it seemed all I could think about was that awesome figures that would soon be in my hands. Well, my birthday comes and I rip open the present from my neighbor. I did not find a Hulk Hogan. What I did find was crushing disappointment in the form of this:

I was crushed. I looked over to my friend's mom and angrily yelled "This isn't Hulk Hogan!!!!" My mother almost killed me for that one, but hey, I was just a kid.

trebleshot 09-01-2011 08:54 AM

Not one, but two Transformers Armada kid's kites. Two different people, same design on both.

And did I mention I really don't like Armada?

YES!!! That's exactly what I got, dude. Those Dollar Store He-man wrestlers. LOL. The leg joints were held together by something weak. In fact, I have one that's the same mold but blonde hair and red tights. Also got one that had a wolf or a bear for a head.
