Emma Frost or Jean Grey?

I'm not completely caught up on my X-Men these days. Last trade I read was Second Coming and I loved the hell out of it. My question is, who is the superior X-man psychic? In terms of character, personal opinion and power.

Between Jean and Frost,.I gotta give it to Frost. She's been a far more interesting character to read about over the last decade and I thoroughly enjoy her as an X-man and what the writers have done with her.

Thoughts?

xhavoc86 08-31-2011 10:30 PM

Personally I feel Psylocke wipes the floor with both.

But between those two, Jean.

ORIO 09-01-2011 07:09 AM

Emma Frost is the superior Psychic to Psylocke but not to Jean. Emma frost is the superior personality hands down. Emma frost can manipulate minds without powers out of sheer influence. Something Jean could never do.

But the coup de grace that gives Emma the edge over all others is this: She's the reason why Scott Summers finally grew a pair!!!

Before Emma, all Scott knew how to do was idolize Prof. X, feel sorry for himself and say "Jean!" over and over like a little bitch.

Since then he's managed to put Xavier in his place for his deception and even has Magneto taking orders from him. He called the hits out for X-Force during Messiah complex through 2nd coming and even impressed Wolverine.

All of that, because the woman makes the man (quote from Emma Frost).

Argue that.

Excellent reply. Agree. Plus, she's got the whole "diamond thing" which never hurts in a fist fight.

Also, the ladies are tied now.

Emma frost, why? Easy

For me, this is a loaded question.
Grant Morrison fucked them both up, as far as I'm concerned.
I always had the most monumental crush on Jean.
However, the personal character growth Emma received as headmistress for Generation X put her on the map for me.

Then when Morrison got ahold of them, he pretty much outright ignored everything she ever did for Gen X, and reduced her to the untrustable villainous-turned-hero, who everyone doubted at every single turn.
And at the same time, they pretty much ran Jean into the dirt for me. I mean, they killed and resurrected her what, five times in one story? They literally took every single thing I loved about her and made her so rediculous I stopped caring altogether.

I also couldn't stand the whole diamond thing. I have no issues with changing, but when Morrison took over, he made so many changes that made no sense, and had no point. Just to mess with the status quo.
Basically... I don't really like either of them anymore. I didn't like Emma stealing Scott (But not because I'm a diehard Scott/Jean shipper. I really didn't like them as a couple, either. But at least they were a better match than Jean/Logan that seems so popular).
Basically... the only good thing that came out of Morrison's run as far as I'm concerned, was turning Xavier's back into an actual school for mutants, again.

To answer the original thread questions though...
Jean is established as being canonically the second most powerful telepath on earth. And when I was reading, Xavier suspected she was actually more powerful than he.
There's no way Emma could ever hold a candle against her in terms of power. That's pure canon.
Character developement, Emma had so much further to come, and indeed redeemed herself completely. Jean never had such an opportunity (Discounting the crimes of the Pheonix, which wasn't actually her.). So Emma has had more opportunities for personal growth and character developement. Jean stayed fairly stagnant, and unfortunately tied to the Pheonix, which hurt her severely for character growth.

As for Psylocke... man, she's so screwed up I don't think I could ever care about her. I liked her better before the whole body switch thing. That kills her for me. (Which says a lot, since I never found out about her until well after that happened)

Joss Whedon did volumes for Emma Frost's character. I started enjoying her most as a result of the Astonishing series. The dynamic between her and Scott has only improved over the years especially during the whole X-Force and Dark X-Men/The Cabal situation that had them reveal eachother's dark secrets to each other. In short, they have an actual relationship that seems more realistic than the campy one that Jean and Scott did. Just my opinion.

I agree the diamond thing is a whatever for me. It's her ability to shut people up with her crass remarks that just makes her that more appealing than the "love me, I'm a cute Red Head with Issues" approach that writers took to Jean in the past.

Definitely don't have an argument on the Power Levels. Jean is ridiculously powerful. I just see her as a weak personality.

behindthemask 09-02-2011 12:42 AM

Pretty sure neither, Emma Frost will give your dick frostbite, where as Jean Grey can read your mind and know your fucking around, mind fuck you into doing what she wants, and then light your ass on fire, x-23 is more like it, some rough kinky shit, personally Pepper potts and Rogue.

deadpool 09-13-2011 12:23 AM

Tough emma frost has diamond hard skin.
And jean grey has the whole phoenix thing,
But helps keep the team together.
Tough,

BOTH!

iLegends73 09-13-2011 01:24 AM

emma. even tho i have a thing for redheads. with emma if u get low on cash, i can always cut her diamond hair and pawn it lol
and b4 someone says "its diamond u cant cut diamond!" no spoilers but someone in a movie did shatter it

trebleshot 09-13-2011 11:02 AM

Character: Emma
Power: Jean
Personal Opinion: Emma

The redeemed villain is a classic storytelling plot and it always gives the that character a far greater depth than any straight arrow could ever have.

That, and I like that Emma considers lingerie an on-duty uniform, as opposed to Jean and her jumpsuits. ;)

Being only human, Rogue would probably kill you before you finished.

Women like Pepper actually exist in real life, so not as appealing in a fantasy situation as, say, Mystique.

Diamonds can be scratched by other diamonds, and be cut as well. Also, most common diamonds can be smashed with an ordinary hammer. And the melting point of diamond is 3550 degrees C (6442 degrees F), which can be produced by Human Torch or Sunfire (with a little effort).

Granted, Emma's crystalline form is "diamond-like", so it may not actually possess the same properties as the actual mineral.

emaa frost simply because of what she wears, shows more skin :)

DarkestKnight 09-13-2011 11:34 AM

Dazzler.....aka Lady GaGa with powers.

CLASSIFIED 09-13-2011 12:05 PM

I don't read X-Titles but I'd rather dance the horizontal tango with the White Queen.

Darkspeed 10-06-2011 12:16 PM

I'd have to say Emma Frost too... I just find her a much more interesting character than Jean... Well, except for the Ultimates version. Jean was a far better character than Emma.

Nexodusrex 10-06-2011 12:54 PM

other. Rogue. She's always been forbidden fruit. lol

Fortune 10-06-2011 01:00 PM

I will go with Jean grey all day everyday.

This all comes down to a question of whether you prefer Blondes or Brunettes...

...or in Jean Grey's case redheads.

Famke Janssen or January Jones?
