Robocop OCP Detrot Police Cruiser Model Kit

9 Attachment(s)
So, in a fit of randomness, I FINALLY have something to share with you guys here. I bought these kits years ago at TRU because they were cheap, and frankly I needed the light bars for other projects at the time. The light bar doesn't go with the kit anyways, as the light bar used on this vehicle in both Robocop and Robocop 2 is totally different as well (the Taurus SHO wasn't used either, but more on that in a bit).

Anyways, as I said, in a fit of randomness and not really having a good day for painting (it's damp outside, so I'd normally not take on a spray project during this kind of weather), I just decided that I'd jump on these. I took out all 3 of the kits I had leftover, a can of Kyrlon Fusion flat blat, and went to town. So far, these are my results:

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1315441313

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1315441313

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1315441313

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1315441313

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1315441313

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1315441313

. . . . and you'll see I ran out of paint:

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1315441313

I'll be honest, I don't entirely know all of my plans yet for these. As I said, the Ford Taurus SHO was not the model of car used in any of the movies, but this is simply the kit I'm stuck with. I don't really have any plans to de-SHO it, other than maybe removing the "SHO" letters from the rear bumper (i.e., the headlights and brake lights are different between the SHO and other models of Taurus). A part of me wants to make at least one of them "pristine" and "movie accurate", but I'm not sure. What I DO intend to do with one of them is to create one that is from the opening sequence of Robocop 2:

http://www.toyark.com/attachment.php...1&d=1315442081

If you've seen the movie, then you'll know what I'm talking about. I've also mulled around the idea of at least replicating the project to put up for sale. Anyways, I thought I'd share this progress with you guys :)

Also, just a little bit of personal trivia of ol' SQ7, he used to have not one, but two actual Tauruses (though neither were movie replicas). :D

Do Boy 09-07-2011 05:48 PM

Oh man. I want that!!

Iron Man 09-11-2011 03:16 PM

Looking good so far. Love the flat black. What scale are these models?

Superquad7 09-14-2011 03:36 AM

Thanks for the props, guys :)

These are 1:25 scale models. I just need some 1:25 scaled figures now . . . .

If only they were 1:18 scale. Then you could use Joe, MU, and various other 3 3/4 to 4 inch figures. That really would have been sweet.

What's up Bubba! Makin' any progress on these kits! Look forward to the finish.

For real! If that was the case, I could use some of my other Robocop figures as well :)

Hey hey, bud! It's good to see you around. I haven't made any more progress yet, but I was able to buy some more paint. I hope I can get back to this (and other projects) soon :)

Allow me to introduce you to my fellow modeler Fichtenfoo:
FichtenFoo

Aside from being the best modeler on the planet, his blog has techniques for making realistic rusted metal that might go great with your cars if you decide to go for the "Robocop fighting in a junkyard" scene.

Thanks for the head's up there! His work looks really cool.

The direction I'm going here is that at least one of these cars will look like the blown up car from Robocop 2. I do think I'll end up with at least one looking "pristine". I'm still weighing options.

I've got another can of Krylon flat black, so I'm ready to go when I get another decently warm enough day. I'm working on a set of Transformers customs that require one coat of the same and then gloss black.

Thanks a lot, bud!

I finished two of these up tonight for the most part. The third will get the battle damage treatment :)

Scythe 03-13-2012 03:41 AM

Must see! I've always wanted to get into model cars. I love cars, and robots, therefore transformers love me or something. Just never had the time, patience and money to start one. Don't even tell me there's a model of any size of a Nissan GT-R, DON'T! That would suck, haha, but I can't wait to see your finished product.

I won't tell you that a Nissan GT-R kit exists :D

I'll try to have some photos of my work soon :)

I would have saved a LOT of time with these had I not built the motors. I wanted the experience though. It felt like a fruitless endeavor otherwise. I don't intend to take off the hood of the "clean" cars again anytime soon.

Gah!

Actually looking forward to it.

Are you a car-nut in real life?

Completely unrelated, but it sucks that we really don't have "that much" Robocop merch. I mean, there is some. NECA's been doing a good job and now we even have a Figma or some shit, but I'd poop pants we got an updated 3.75" or 6" line.

:)

Am I a "car-nut" in real life? Not so much, or at least certainly not as much as some are. I'm only really picky when it comes to things like working on things like this, or collecting lines like Alts/BTs where it's supposed to be specific.

That being said, I did end up taking quite a few liberties with this project. I made my own light bar instead of seeking out a more accurate one on eBay (like I would typically do). The problem lies more within this kit itself, as it starts the consumer out with inaccuracies. If the devil is truly in the details, this kit is not for a person seeking that out.

Ah, you're alot like me then. Cars are a beautiful thing, but when the technical aspects of them come into question, I'm all: "F*ck that shhhhi-"

I didn't notice the inaccuracies until you pointed them. Would've noticed them quicker if I was a bigger Robocop fan, though now that you've mentioned them, I see them and they're pretty loud. Glad to see you took it a step further to fix it yourself, adds alot more to the project!

Yeah, I have a decent working knowledge of autos, and for what I don't know I have my Googlefu. :D Things that bother me are instances were something like G1 Jazz is based on a specific car and so is the Alt/BT Meister, but people want to put Martini labels on an Alt because of their geewuniness. Same goes for a car like the Ford GT40, which has its own rich heritage that doesn't involve flames at all. For this project, this kit should not be a SHO, it should involve the details that are indicative of the car used in the film (like the column shifter), and it should have the details added for the film (accurate push bar, light bar, spotlight on top, interior cage, etc.). That's really about the extent of me being a "car nut".

I did a little bit, but there comes a point to where I just move on and deal. There are other modelers out there who have tackled this kit and put my work to shame. I had fun doing what I did, and I have something relatively cool to display from my work.

Thanks so much for posting, as you've made this much more fun here :)

Yeah, I see what you mean. I'm the same way. I'm like that with Batmobiles as well.

I don't remember if Robo's car had the PD emblem on the door, I imagine it would, did you have to add this? Stickers? Maybe I'm mistaken and it has a blank door?

Yeah, the kit comes with two door badges that are closer to the OCP symbol seen in the second movie (since the kit was originally issued as a "Robocop 2" kit).

Oh, cool! Dunno why I thought you'de have to paint it from scratch yourself. I'd been all: "Dayum, son." Watch you totally be able to do it anyways.

When are you planning on putting on the tires and completing the project?

To me it looks like you're pretty much done, except the minor details like tires, door emblems and light bar ontop.

Yep, you guessed it! After I took photos and posted them, I went back to finish these off. Two of them have their tires and light bars attached, so they're done (or as much as I'm messing with 'em). The third is going to be "battle damaged" as seen from the opening of Robocop 2.

Scythe 03-15-2012 04:04 AM

Holy crap, when's that battle damaged one gonna land?
