Miles Morales SpiderMan Stand-In Suggestions?

So the new Ultimate Spider-Man series debuted yesterday, which probably means that we won't get a figure for at least 8-12 months. I really like the new suit, but I feel as if I've seen Spidey Variants with similar looks.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a stand in figure for the time being?

Dont think theres really one close to it.
to be frank I dont really care that much for Miles Morales or his suit. Im not a fan of using race or sexuality to sell different versions of characters. I wouldnt want a black Wolverine as much as I wouldnt want a white storm. Batwoman always turned me off cause they imediatly said "She's Gay" and used it as a selling point instead of gradually showing it as a character trait. Rictor is a good example of a homosexual or bisexual character whos sexuality wasnt used as a selling point for him.
All in all, I would much prefer Miles Morales as his own person and not replacing Spider-man. Maybe somthing called "The Wolf Spider" or somthing.

DarkestKnight 09-15-2011 09:56 AM

I guess I'm more indifferent to it, as it's the Ultimate Universe, which I know has been around for 10 years, and a lot of people love Ultimate Peter Parker, but to me, that universe has been they anything goes place.

As far as making the character a minority, it reminds me of Rhodey filling in as Iron Man, it's not permanent, and I more interested to read about a character that through a similar stroke of luck/fate, is given the abilities of a superhero that just died. How does the previous Spidey's legacy effect him? It might be great, it might not be, but it's sort of new territory, at least to me and probably a lot of other readers.

So he is a gay 13 year old? I'm confused. I know absolutely nothing about this Spider-Man?

I'm not commenting on the character, as I haven't read anything, but we've known about this costume and character for a while now. Several months. And we already know that Hasbro gets info on new characters long before any reveals. Look at how quickly they made the Dark Avengers. And given the fact that he's basically Spider-man, he's a very simple repaint. I would put 8 months as the maximum, assuming they don't just leave him by the wayside. (There's other Spidey's to do, and the Ultimate universe hasn't really gotten much love from the line to begin with. Just Cap, Magneto, and Peter Parker Spidey. All others have been in movie lines.)

No, he's not gay, he's just a racial minority.

That's true, didn't realize that, don't follow the stuff too closely, honestly only checked out the first issue as it was featured in my LCBS.

IDK but I wouldn't think so, I believe he was saying in this characters case he was being sold as a minority as other characters have been sold based on sexual orientation like batwoman

at least I think that is what is being said

Dagger 09-15-2011 01:38 PM

To answer one of the original questions. It's a stretch, but maybe you could use the Spiderman Unlimited figure.

omega145 09-15-2011 02:24 PM

I have no idea who this character is but what a dumb stereotyped name, Miles Morales? Might as well be Jerome Sanchez.

jamesmruddy 09-15-2011 03:42 PM

I like the new suit and I will probably pick up the comic eventually. I have read where the costume will be available to wear in the Spider-Man: Edge of Time, game.

Do Boy 09-15-2011 03:55 PM

Just found out his Suit will be in Spider-Man edge of time

Sure he isn't gay? They way he is standing doesn't help very much lol

Boba Fettuccini 09-15-2011 05:10 PM

Marvel confirmed he isn't gay a few weeks ago. They said they wouldn't be closed to having him be gay, but he's not. I remember seeing it in USA Today or something.

Jason Abbadon 09-15-2011 05:14 PM

Matbe use the Spidey-line black costume version- not only is it easiest to repaint, it's already the new suit's base color and the sclae is right for a teenager- noticably smaller than MU scale.

Not an Ultimates fan but the way the hispanic angle was promoted and then the hyping of the miniscule negtive reaction to him as even more hype was crass and in poor taste.

He's hispanic- BFD.
Try making an asian charcater that's not a martial artist and I'll be impressed.

Didn't hasbro say that they were going to be releasing a lot of different versions of spiderman either this year or next because of the new movie?

NoodleChow 09-15-2011 06:06 PM

yeah agreed with above for using the black suited spidey and painting him up since there's really not many options other than to take a preexisting spidey figure and giving him a paintjob.

and jason abbadon- amadeus cho count?

dunno if i'm looking forward to the possibly ridiculous glut of movie spidey figures coming. i'll be shocked if i ever see past wave 2.

ORIO 09-15-2011 07:08 PM

That costume design is badass.

behindthemask 09-15-2011 07:26 PM

I love cultural diversity as much as the next guy but spiderman will always be Peter Parker the way Bruce wayne is Batman. To me this may help comics reach a wider following, which is great, but this doesn't interest me.

They would do that even if there wasn't a new movie. This is Hasbro.

They'll never make the one we REALLY want until like 2 years from now though. Ya know. A Classic Spiderman WITH thigh swivels and rocker ankles.

Until then we'll see the Scarlet Spider mold milked to all hell. Then that Ultimate Spiderman from SDCC...which is weird because it doesn't have thigh swivels or rocker ankles.

Morales Spiderman has a bad ass costume. Lost on continuity though, haven't actively read Marvel for over 2 years.

thechris 09-15-2011 07:38 PM

What a nifty costume. Too bad Petey had to die for this bastard...

Well what i am going to do (once i get it in the mail) is take the legs off of my spare Dr. strange and put them on the solid black spidey from the secret wars 2-pack. Also from the images we saw of the ultimate spidey figure wouldn't it make sense to use the bucky mold(technically its a teenage body right?) because ultimate spidey is like 15 years old. and correct me i am wrong but isn't the future foundation spidey going to have thigh swivels and rocker ankles? If so than that gives us some hope of there being a classic spidey with all the articulation that we could ever want.

synapse17 09-15-2011 08:04 PM

I like the new kid. I've always been a huge Spidey freak and when there was talk to cast Danny Glovers son in the new Spider-Man movie I was against it just because I would like to see a really kick ass Spider-Man movie before they start playing around with the basics foundation of the character.

But I like this idea and the more I see on it the more I like it. After all with all the Spider-Man books is it really so bad for one to look at changing the dynamic of who Spidey is behind the mask. That was always a huge part of Spider-Man, Peter Parker. It's going to be strange experiencing things from Miles perspective. Seeing how Miles background shapes how he views his responsibilities. I think everyone should give him a chance.
