Last Call - Iron Man 2?
It seems like all of the Iron Man 2 figures are finally leaving the shelves of my local stores.
I never did see the last wave or two of new figures and I really wanted to grab the Ultimate Iron Man. Does anyone know if these have a final round of releases or am I just going to have to buy this guy online for an inflated price? |
It's been nearly two years since the IM2 line launched -- it's done. With Avengers figures coming soon, these will disappear off pegs and be clearanced soon.
|
I don't work for Hasbro but I totally expect them to continue to show up in Canada and around Christmas time, stores like TJ Max and Marshalls might get them. They could even show up at WM, Target, or TRU. I just found a Thor Destroyer and the warriers 3 at Target. Three months after the movie came out. I know IM2 has been here and gone but these toys were made. They have to end up somewhere and that's my guess.
|
I agree with Miketime that they have to end up somewhere, but this has to be one of the most baffling toylines I've seen since I've been collecting. The movie is so old that it's in $5 bins in the middle of Walmart floors yet the towline is still holding primary real estate in toy aisles across North America. Not to mention that the line is practically the same figure with ever so slight differences between a large majority of them. I'd think they'd end up at the Marshalls types of stores eventually, but that might not be for ten years at this pace.
|
They've been carried by places like Kohl's and Gordman's in the midwest (sort of like discount stores, but not so much...) and the irony of it is that these stores clearanced out their inventory. I've watched Wal-Mart and Target do the same with other toys in the past, yet Iron Man 2 figures just seem to linger forever. I'd almost guess that those stores are contractually obligated somehow, and have to keep them, otherwise they must have just ordered way too many to re-cooperate their initial investment through clearance.
|
I've never seen them here in the midwest dog, I must be doing something wrong.. but I guess some of you have lucky toy black holes in which they ship off the never seen and unwanted toys that you can look for them at, haha

Don "Donkey Punch" Kong figure - Toy Discussion at Toyark.com Oh yeah, be jealous. |
I guess I'll start going into those stores in hopes of a Donkey Punch! Haha
But I guess I should actually hit them up more often.. though I already spent 20 a piece for warriors 3 on amazon months back.. hate myself for that even if I never find them.. >< |

I hope so. I want to get Modern War Machine without paying a bundle online. And if they had an Ultimate, I'd pick it up in an instant. It'd look cool on the shelf and I could trade it later on. Oh well.
|
It's really risky to just wait for them to show up at a discount chain, because even if they at whatever time down the road, there's a good chance it'll be a chain that's not around you. For instance, I've heard of people finding Mandarin and Modern War Machine at Tuesday Mornings recently. There aren't any around me, so it really doesn't matter.
Plus, they could just dump all of them overseas. It's happened before. |
I still have the Ultimate Iron Man, modern War Machine, and Comic Whiplash in package from the second set I ordered just for Mandarin. If my friend doesn't pay up very soon, I'm more than willing to sell them at the cost I paid, which was bbts price, but still not horrible!

I have never seen any of the late waves of Iron man 2 stuff. My stores are still stuffed full of Mark VIs. I had a Tuesday Morning have a Comic Whiplash and Comic Ultimate Iron Man. Was nice to find them!
I had to hunt down most of my late wave stuff online. The prices aren't too bad, but I also hate paying more than retail. My Hammer Drone cost $15 or $16 plus shipping, so it was tough to swallow. |
I'm still holding out hope that one day when I least expect it I'll come across the wave four comic figs so I can finally have them in my collection.
|
Tuesday Morning has 2 each to a store. $5.99 each
I will trade my Ultimate IM & comic Whiplash (one for one) for Sif, Commander Rogers, X-23, Darkhawk, or Namor |
If you've got any Kohl's near you, check them. I went shopping for some pre-school stuff for a cousin's birthday and they had like 10 of the drones(5 of two different types), and 2 movie whiplashes. Since Kohls typically carries lower quantities of stock, they shift merchandise a little faster to get newer in, but they cost a little more.

I hate Marshalls and those other "outlet" or clearance stores- I went into a Marhslls just the other day and they jad nothing worth buying...and there's a sense of...failure? In being there- no one seems remotely happy and even the employees never crack a smile among themselves. I've found a few good things there at the holidays, but it's a drain on my overall energy just to be there, in the florscent lights that somehow dont illuminate like Target's do (same goes for Wal Mart- the one closest to me is "ghetto fabulous" with a AC that barely works and flickering overhead lights). |
they are plentiful around here, well the older waves not the mandarin one, i only seen it once at TRU and i grabbed everything. wasnt there a rumor about a rerelease of mandarin in a 2 pack?

The problem is, all three lines have been lackluster in terms of lingering pegwarmers, which leads me to believe that the Avengers line is going to flop as well (People will buy Hawkeye, Black Widow, Maybe Hulk, and the villains, but Thor, Cap, and Iron Man are probably going to pegwarm HARD (everyone who wanted them already has multiple versions). After that, I wouldn't be surprised if further Marvel films don't even get toylines (unless the economy picks WAY back up). I'm seriously beginning to wonder if between the IM2 line and the Marvel Universe line, Hasbro has succeeded in pushing Iron Man into being an unprofitable character at retail.... |

People will buy the Avengers line Cap, IM, & Thor simply because they will be slightly different than the ones we already have. I don't think Hasbro actually learns anything from the way toys don't sell. Two Targets in my area have nothing but Arctic Destros for Joes on the pegs. The Indiana Jones figs are a good example. They overstock the first 2 waves to the point where most collectors already have what's on the shelf. Part of that prob has to do with stores either buying too much or getting pressured to buy and only getting the same case assortments time after time. It's sad that we have to go to Singapor and Hong Kong sellers to get the final Indy wave and any end of line wave assortment. |
Found a Mandarin at HEB yesterday! W00T! 2 drones but I left them. Would've liked a comic whiplash but pretty dang thankful for the Mandarin.
