Marvel Masterworks Sentinal: Worth Getting?

Well after being quite tempted on this one for quite a While I've been considering purchasing it next time I'm out or finding it on ebay.

-Next outing I'll be having is on Monday that's to scoop up some Transformers on clearance if I can find em at ROSS maybe some other items there I'll be out with my aunt so I doubt she'd spend that much on a Sentinal for me so I'll get it myself later MAYBE-

I have seen the Sentinal all the time I've been out, and the 2 times I've been to TRU I've seen it and Galactus.

Now I'm a fan of the TAS X-Men Animated Series and liked those Setinal Versions but lately the new Sentinal is starting to look good. I have not been interested in the Marvel Line [Last Figure I got for the line was Maverick since he's one of my favorite characters]

So those of you who own the Sentinal is it worth getting?

-for some reason have an odd idea to have it placed next to the Terror Drome I got on the way......-

I know it seems like a odd question to ask if I'm leaning towards buying it but I just declared my retirement with collecting and don't want to get pulled into the Marvel Line...My Room is crowded enough as it is.....Still tempted to find me an X-Jet to put on display.......-

M3T4L V1KING 10-01-2011 08:57 PM

I was thinking about getting one myself. Up in Canada they're about $50 (more with taxes). So I'd say if it's around $40 where you live, I'd personally say go for it.

Tyjos Azari 10-01-2011 09:06 PM

I'm glad it comes with Wolverine too....funny everytime I see the images of him with the figure I got some quote from him from the TAS Series popping in my head from all the Sentinal Encounters he's had where he gets ready to leap at the Sentinal with claws drawn. That of course and

"HALT MUTANT"

Wouldn't mind finding the ToyBiz original Sentinal but saw some pictures and the comparison to the Masterworks version is a no brainer on which one looks better even though the Toy Biz Sentinal has that nostaligic feel to it.

Definitely worth getting despite the updated colors. If you can wait for the classic colors to come this December, then go for it. Regardless, it's still a great fig.

Hope these images will help you out. I have two of them, and possibly getting a third one with the classic colors. Goodluck!

I agree with getting the classic colors, rather than the new garish one, but I'd also suggest buying the BAF sentinel to the new one's.
Bigger and way more detailed, but not much bigger, if you're going for a sleeker design than take his advice and wait for the classic colors.

Here's a picture of the BAF sentinel, if you were curious.

I'm holding out for the classic color one as well. The only place I will probably see that one though is at my LCS, since that is the only place I ever saw Dark Galactus. The problem is my LCS will probably charge around $70+ for the classic color retail version... not sure I want to pay that much for having the correct colors on my Sentinel. LOL.

Yep I also prefer the BAF Sentinel. Better paint for a more worn realistic looking, articulated fingers and tenticles. Its only a tad bigger than the MU Sentinel but the Sentinel is more bulky. I dont like how the MU Sentinel is a little too bulky either and has the look of having muscles.

perrych 10-02-2011 10:14 AM

The BAF Sentinel looks better - I don't have one so I can't say if it is sturdy or has great apps, but the reviews all say that it is great. The problem with the BAF is that it is only available on the secondary market right now, and it ain't cheap. Plus, if you want to have an army, it would much easier to buy an army of MU Sentinels. I would consider waiting until December for the classic paint job, but one word of caution: TRU may not sell through enough of their regular Sentinels to put up the variant on the shelves. These aren't selling fast here, but maybe that will change if they are on sale in the next two months.

Do Boy 10-02-2011 10:20 AM

Get the masterworks one. It just easier to come by. And in some cases cheaper. I have heard some wal-marts have them on sale for $40 now.

You'd be better off winning one from an online forrum than actually going out and buying one.

But seriously, I pre-ordered one from BBTS and my only complaint was that he didn't have an orifice on the palm of his hand for laser blasts to come out of, nor did he have tentacles.

Considering that you're done with collecting, I'd pass.

Tyjos Azari 10-02-2011 01:43 PM

I thought more on the Sentinal and it'd feel more like an Impulse Buy and impulse buys now these days I end up putting up on ebay maybe 2 months later. The Sentinal I've always liked though, would be nice to have him for sure having a bunch of em would be awesome but yeah since I am through with collecting It'd probably be wiser to pass on it.

Don't have that many marvel Items in my collection [Still hoping they'd release an Updated Storm Figure or a Statue of her she'd fit in perfectly with my Anime figures] though just the Sentinal looks cool....but if it doesn't have Tentacles then that's kinda a stupid thing cause the Setninal needs those Tentacles to restrain the Mutants!

You are 100% right, my friend.

No tentacles = stupid, because he needs those tentacles to battle mutants.

Tyjos Azari 10-02-2011 03:08 PM

How many times has the Sentinal almost won a battle due to those Tentacles? Most of the times when it encounters the Mutants that's the first thing that comes out!

That I'd consider a major let down especially if you're a fan who expects the Sentinal to have something to Restrain it's target....and it doesn't come with one....

Well you could always rig a fuzzy pipe cleaner to it's arm.

Every time one has gone up against a named mutant?

Sentinels never win unless they're picking on some hapless victim mutant right before the X-Men show up and wipe the floor with them.

Game over, dude... game over.

D00MTR0N 10-02-2011 05:33 PM

I would say pass only because I dont like figures of this scale, now if he were 3 3/4 scale I would be all over it,same with galactus.

He is in scale with other 3.75" figures.

thechris 10-02-2011 06:05 PM

Technically he's to scale with the MU, although to me, he's still too tall. I think he should've been more like a third of the size. Their size varies in the comics from human height to 20 ft to 30 ft to Mastermold who would have to dwarf Galactus if he was the size they made him in the X-Men Animated Series. He sat on a giant throne and the full sized Sentinels came out from between his legs. That means his ankle was the height of a full sized Sentinel. Heck, hunching Man-Thing's back and bending his legs to the point where he looks a bit pigeon-toed, he could pass for MU. Sometimes Hulk is twice as tall as a regular character in the comics, sometimes he's only a bit taller. Abomination could pass for MU, too, in some scales.

I have the SDCC version and he's great. Sure it has it's flaws, but you should be happy with the figure overall, I would think.

Isn't MU a 3.75" scale action figure line?

perrych 10-02-2011 06:40 PM

As for scale with the bigger figures, you just get tall and really tall. I would have thought Galactus was too short but there is so much variety in the comics to his height - some times incredibly big, others just big. Same with Goliath and Giant Man. I would have thought a Sentinel would be about the same size as Goliath, but Goliath was different heights as were Sentinels. I'm just glad it's really big. Now, if you want to complain about scale, complain about Apocalypse - I don't think he was ever that short in any iteration!

Tyjos Azari 10-02-2011 06:41 PM

I wonder if the ToyBiz Sentinal would be cooler than the Masterworks version...Surprised they haven't released a Mastermold.

Damn I need to read the old Uncanny X-men issues from the 90's and do a rewatch of the X-Men Animated Series now......Not sure if Nimrod has been released damn I love that storyline...

For anyone that doesnt know, The 90's Xmen animated TV show is an instant queue on Netflix. Brings me back when watching and still an awesome show.

The BAF Sentinel can be had for $60-70 bucks on good deals every once in a while. That's spending another 10-20 bucks depending on how much you get for the Masterworks Sentinel. I think that would be a big factor especially if your troop building them.
