My Epic Walmart Journey, fueled by Toyark

So as most of you can tell, I just found this incredible forum yesterday, and browsing the heaps of amazing collections last night, I got the bug to hunt, and got it bad.

I left the house after the wife and kids were asleep around 11:30, figuring I could make it to the Walmart down the street and back without any problems. This store has been low on Universe figures for a LONG time now, so I've been expecting a fat shipment any day now, but always assume it's going to be crappy instead of awesome.

They did not disappoint. Check out the pictures below of what they had in stock:

A torn Wolverine fig prominently on display:
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/pe...439px-Torn.jpg

An extremely confusing Clearance figure (same one, not on clearance, AND the clearance price is the same as the peg price!)
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/pe...-Clearance.jpg

And an amazingly horrible paint job (is that Ketchup?) which is admittedly not their fault:
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/pe...-Paint_job.jpg

So since it was still before midnight, I thought I'd hit a few more Walmarts, since they are all-night around here anyway. I was constantly deeply discouraged until I hit the last one that was furthest from my house (~45 minutes). As you can see below, they had the entire X23 wave, with the Submariner variants that said Imperius Rex on the base, as well as tons of three packs, the latest two packs, AND the silver sentinel! I haven't seen any of the rest of these figures anywhere else in town, safe one small release of X23's wave at TRU last week. They even had some hard to find (for me) cap movie figures (which I didn't buy, since I'm not collecting them and they didn't look like they were selling well on eBay).

Peg Stock:

Shelf Stock:

Captain America Pegs:

So it just goes to show that it's always the last place you look, and each Walmart is completely different from the last. One of the ones I went to had actually stopped carrying super hero action figures! It was a crazy, fun night, which ended around 2:30 am. Don't give up! The ones you want are out there!

Tiberius 10-04-2011 08:42 AM

So what did you get??? =D

Do Boy 10-04-2011 08:43 AM

Not bad. This is how It starting to look like around Houston.

Nexodusrex 10-04-2011 08:45 AM

that second walmart......is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.....it brings a tear to my eye

Funny that I forgot that bit, I got a Submariner with Imperius Rex on the base, the Wolverine/Cap two-pack, a replacement Deadpool/Taskmaster two-pack (taking my older one back), a Fantastic Four set, and a sentinel!

Now I have to figure out how to break the $100 spending spree to the wife... ;)

miketime 10-04-2011 08:49 AM

Wow! I've never seen so many worth while figs all in the same palce. That's what we call a honey hole.

"Honey, you said you weren't in the mood...so I bought A LOT of toys...loooovvve yoooooou".

That could go either way.

xanthax 10-04-2011 08:59 AM

Oddly enough, the biggest oddity I saw was that they didn't have the Sentinels just stacked on each other to where you can't even tell what it is.

Otherwise, GREAT find. I have not spotted the X-23 wave at Walmart yet, just TRU.

Ha! It's more likely that I'll just have to let her spend $100 on something instead. This 'hobby' is extra expensive at my house, since she gets to spend as much as I do to maintain fairness. :|

roadrevenge 10-04-2011 09:20 AM

I wish our Walmarts were open 24 hours and carried Marvel Universe... They only started to get the Fantasic Four, X-Force, and Avergers box sets.. But that is all the MU that they carry.. TRU doesn't carry MU anymore either...

Montreal sucks......

roadrevenge 10-04-2011 09:23 AM

Oh ya forgot to mention.. over here MUs are 9.99$ at retail..

Shin Densetsu 10-04-2011 09:57 AM

I, the mighty Shin Densetsu, have found most of NOTHING! Most of the time I see new toys is either on auction or when one of you guys finds them. I found 1 Ultron but the disappointment at knowing everyone else was gone left me turning away. Saw Falcon, but that costume...come on man, talk about dated!

That's unfortunate, but here's hoping you luck out next monday morning.

quinten182 10-04-2011 10:07 AM

3 packs are fully stocked here at WM too, but still never seen those new 2 packs anywhere. Weird.

Don't worry with the amount they seem to be releasing at a time. It will prolly be a peg warmer.

neatogecko 10-04-2011 10:43 AM

A fully stocked Walmart is a beautiful sight indeed. Especially when it is contrasted with the 6 other Walmarts in the area that have two full pegs of Hobgoblin and Ironman. *Sigh*

Peteparker 10-04-2011 10:45 AM

Is Monday morning the typical day for Walmarts? I've found that Targets typically put out new stock on Fridays, at least in Albuquerque, and Toys R Us gets shipments on Wednesdays, but sometimes take as long as a week to get it all out on the floor...

I live in abq also and need that powerman and ironfist set. Is this the walmart on coors and I-40?

DogFashionDisco 10-04-2011 12:18 PM

Has anyone else seen the 6 inch Nick Fury at WalMart? It says on Walmart only on the package and the likeness is amazing.

RexLewis85 10-04-2011 12:46 PM

I miss the thrill of the hunt, I'm hoping I'll be able to go to to walmart here soon.

They're all different. The only store out of the three I check that sticks to a pretty regular schedule is TRU (Target and Walmart being the other two). If you start going often you'll start to pick up on their patterns, but there's really no common "restock day."

Yup, that's the one. Do you know if there's an Albuquerque Collector's Club here in town? It'd be nice if we could all work together locally too.

I didn't specifically look for him yesterday, but looked at a TRU, Target, and Walmart today and didn't see any amongst the rest of the 6 inchers anywhere.

ricemaster76 10-04-2011 01:13 PM

Albuquerque has a big community of tfw2005.com, that's where i mainly post on, cuz i'm a big transformers fan. I'm also ricemaster on tfw2005, there is another abq member in here and his user name is orio. He's on both sites as well. Hello! :)

There's a sightings thread here too for new Mexico Pete.

If you can PM me some info on that collectors club that would awesome. Edit: Nevermind, I misread your post!

This is the Wal-Mart I found the most recent wave at too. Now I just need to find the next wave with Wolvie and Magneto. I guess you saved me a trip to Coors and I-40 :)

Also, what store are those pics from with the crappy inventory? You can save me a trip to that store too :)
