The New 52 and Different Earths.
So far, I have loved EVERYTHING I have read with the New 52. With that being said, I am extremely confused on what is Earth 1, Earth 2, ect. So far, Action Comics and Superman don't add up, at all, along with Batman and Detective Comics. I may be looking to much into this but is AC and DC Earth 2 and Batman/Superman Earth 1? Nothing adds up to me and it is making me rather frustrated...
|
Damnit, I need to read these. I'll probably wait for them to release a TPB on my favorite characters, so until then, spill the dirt dude. What's happening so far?
|
I don't know :(. Like in Action Comics, Superman and running around with a cape, t shirt and jeans kicking serious ass, then in Superman #1 he is all badass with his new costume n shit. Also, in JL #1 Superman is just being a dink and I got no idea how or why any of this is happening or where it is happening in the time line. My friend talked me into getting I, Vampire, and DAMN...amazing. So far I think I am going to stick with Detective Comics and I, Vampire.

Well, in Detective Comics he is having a run in with the Joker, who by the way, is even more of a nutjob, I don't want to ruin anything, but it's pretty gnarly. In Batman #1, so far, some one is trying to kill Bruce Wayne, from what the evidence is leading too. I haven't red Batman and Robin though.
|
I'm in. I'm going to my LCS after my next paycheck and picking these up. I just hate having to read a few pages at a time, that shit frustrates me to no end.
|
Action Comics was good too. Superman seemed to drag on forever though, and JL, to me, wasn't up to standards. I, Vampire was badass and Batman was pretty good. Detective Comics was easily the best I have read thus far.

I love the New 52 stuff!!!
|
Honestly I have not been in love with with the new 52 :/ but then again it always takes me forever to come aroundto change
|
They keep calling it "an event". So far, Superman has been an easy pass, it was boring till the last page where you actually feel sorry for the man of steel.

Just read Aquaman #1. It was a quick read, but I enjoyed it. Feel the story line is going to be full of love, passion, sorrow, fear, rage, happyness, and...DEATH.
|
I'm thinking action comics are a prequel and they will eventually tie in. Maybe this series is the one who is supposed to explain how Sups gets his new suit. All these guys at DC do is write stories so there shouldn't be too many plot wholes. Good stuff so far.
|
Im confused with how some of the books tie in ( or don't) too. Some of the books seem to fall into a new timeline while others seem to be continuing on where the old stuff left off ( like batman and robin) . Oh well..its been a fun month of comics regardless.
..and to the guy above who said that comic writers don't leave many plot "wholes". I respectfully disagree ..Haha..99% of the comics that I read have holes you could drive a tank through! The good thing ( or bad) thing about comics is that you can have dr strange or brother voodoo pop in and erase the hole..the tank and any tracks it left ..and any memory the world has of the tank actually blasting through the hole. That's what's good about comics though..its impossible fantasy. |
Action Comics is set in the past and is the story of Superman's early adventures.
I liked Superman #1, it exceeded my expectations. Aquaman #1 is my favorite book so far. Aquaman is one of my favorite super heroes, and I'm glad he's come out of the water and into the city. I would like to see them bring Artie Jr. and Tempest back in the future. Perhaps Vulko replaced Artie's body with a lifeless clone back durring Death of a Prince and handed Artie off to some surface dwellers because he felt the prince was in too much danger as the son of a super heroe. |
Stories within Action Comics takes place before the Clark takes his rightful role as Superman in said title series. That's how that one works
Yeah, others haven't changed much i.e. Green Lantern as much of that story stays in tacked. While say Batman & Robin it's Bruce & Damian now seeing as how Dick has gone back to the Nightwing Persona. Let's not forget Barbra not being Oracle anymore as she's back to being Batgirl. Thus leaves the question wide open of "What happened to Stephanie Brown & Cassandra Cain?" Let's not forget there's no mention of Wally West or Donna Troy as well within this reboot. There's a lot of things that's off about the new 52...and ya know, it is frustrating to not know what's what. Hopefully it's explained better down the road for I do miss a lot of what I knew. |
Honestly all the new 52 seems to be doing is returning things to back how they were when Geoff Johns was a kid. I mean Barry as the only Flash. Cyborg in the JLA (just like he was a big part of the superfriends)
|
Yeah...Johns like Alex Ross is a fan of the golden & silver age of comics. At least he put a new spin on Aquaman that no one was expecting.
Otherwise I dropped Firestorm and Hawkman. I'm now down to 16 titles out of the 52. |
Swamp Thing is pretty good. I like the story and the set up. IT almost feels as if they are doing a Moore/Veitch style to the book and those were great books. I would just like to see Constantine in the book. It seems to survived transition well.
Action Comics takes place 5 years before the current year. The idea is Superman is the first hero and nothing existed before him. EXCEPT Batman. He has been doing his things for years because he has had five Robins and it would make little sense for them to follow each other so close. He has been hidden and a good amount history is there. I wonder about the JSA. Where do they fit into continuity . And Martian Manhunter was supposed to be on the earth for many years before Superman appears. I would like to see a better timeline. |
I heard a JSA mini was on the way, but that it was set on a parallel Earth.
Karen Starr was in the first issue of Terrific, but I never picked up #2. |
That sounds like it might be good. When is it going to be set?
|
Don't know.
I heard they removed the JSA from regular continuity because they wanted Superman to be the first superhero again. Could just be comic shop scuttle butt. I hope that it isn't set during WW2. |
I heard that too. I wouldn't mind a WW2 series but as long as itr had flavor of the time not as a side note.
|
We've seen them in that era...
Let's see a new take. |
That would be good as well as long as the write a good book. Maybe if they wrote it setting in different time periods that would be fascinating.
