Layaway at WalMart starting Oct.17

Hey guys, not sure where to put this thread, Mods feel free to move.

Walmart is starting layaway on any items over $15. (pretty much any figure except MU and Transformers deluxes)

This is a great opportunity to grab figures as you see them and pick them up later when you have more cash in hand!

Works for their online site as well I believe!

Details:

I'll be able to stockpile a few figures with this deal!

Do Boy 10-09-2011 02:14 PM

Ad says in store only. Does not apply to online purchases.

BigHanksCustoms 10-09-2011 02:20 PM

Yup, you are correct. I saw a blurb in another link that said".com" in it and assumed. Sorry 'bout that!

I know I need about three Ultimate Optimus primes for commissions so this works out pretty good for me. Plus my Wally's just stocked the Cap A/Thor six inchers and the new three packs and comic two packs.

Instead of deciding which to buy, I can get them all now and pick them up later!

Tiberius 10-09-2011 02:31 PM

So what if it is 2 MU figures that combined go over 15$. Does that count?

Nope. Has to be 15 each sadly.

Tiberius 10-09-2011 02:37 PM

Poopy pants. I think my Walmart does layaways anyways.

Fortune 10-09-2011 04:06 PM

Good news is this will really help me with getting the Crime Syndicate pack. Bad news is this will also possibly help scalpers. :/

omega145 10-09-2011 04:59 PM

If you need to do layaway for toys from Walmart then you probably shouldnt be spending the money on toys and more important things that you need and can afford.

well if this is the rule then its a fail imo,but whatever, they never stock enough to lay anything away.

Sometimes its not about NEED. I mean I COULD easily go pick up the crime syndicate pack whenever I like and not hurt from it. Difference is I don't WANT to drop that much at once.

That's an interesting observation. As a counterpoint I offer this:

I can certainly afford any figures I wish, but as a customizer having the flexibility to secure a large quantity of various figures and pick them up as the clients payments come in Layaway is a blessing. It's a lot easier to budget in a $50 payment on $400-500 worth of figures and pay it off over time.

Then why couldnt you just save the money and then walk into the store and buy it when your funds are right? That Crime Syndicate pack is not hard to find.

In their defense, it kind of is. I haven't seen one in quite a while around here. I think that hording a bunch of $8 figures in lay-away is really unfair to kids, but if you're putting something in there that costs $50+ than it kind of makes sense. You know, that "oh cool, I'll have them hang onto this until I get paid" reaction.

Exactly, I think it's fair that they put a minimum value of $15. Lets kids and casual collectors still have fun.

I need 3 x Ultimate Prime, 1 x Leader Sentinel Prime, and 2 x Leader Bumblebee.

That's nearly $300 in base figures, so I'll happily put them on layaway with 10% down while tossing in the 6 inch Cap A and Thor figs I want along with the 2-packs and boxed sets, maybe a Sentinel or two........

Tiberius 10-09-2011 05:28 PM

Putting something on layaway with the intent of buying it next payday.

I havent seen even ONE around here. Also like I said it has nothing to do with getting my funds right. I could have a billion dollars in my pocket walk in to walmart and have to really think hard as to rather I want to drop 80$ on the crim pack at one time.

That doesnt make any sense. If you have the money then why not pay it right there and take the item home right away instead of hoping that Walmart is going to correctly hold the item and not damage it while its sitting in the back of the warehouse.

Personally, I never liked layaway. I figure save the money and buy it when you have the full amount.

It may not make sense to you but each his own.

I got to agree with Omega. If I had billions of dollars, 80 bucks for a figure, at that 5 of them, wouldn't even be a thought. I would buy it without knowing then end up in my giant Land Rover going "Oh, did I just buy this?"

Did I ever mention....Im very weird. Plus a billion was a bit of a hypebole.

NBX Maverick 10-10-2011 12:05 PM

I get the situation I collect these Disney designer dolls that MOSTLY I've paid the 65$ retail price on my first 5 (they are release 1 each per Monday and there are 10 in the line ) and soon they are releasing the final 5 all at once yes I can afford to get them but the 65$ a week is a lot easier to swallow than the $320+
Also I severely disagree with some of the arguments I'm not trying to cause a big fight but just giving my unwanted opinions.

I'm going to scalp so many of these those Syndicate sets this winter. Whatever Walmarts you guys are not seeing these at, it's probably because they stack cases of these at this one mega Walmart by me. If anyone wants to start a layaway plan with me, send me a pm.

..GL 5-packs for $10 for months at this joint.

CLASSIFIED 10-10-2011 01:21 PM

A lot of retailers stopped doing Layaway because it cost more money than it generated.

I suspect Wal Mart has decided to bring it back because it hopes to draw more shoppers into the store.

I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up paying more for items on layaway than you would had you bought them outright.

This could revolutionize scalping.

Put all of the hot figures on layaway, find buyers on ebay, take the figs that didn't sell off layaway; without having to put the initial cost up to get the figs.

I wonder if this will bring the cost to consumer for scalped figures down or up?

I have the money for lots of things that I want. Doesn't always mean I want to drop it to get it. I can see how someone would be hesitant to drop $80 all at once at a Wal-Mart for some plastic.

Steve Jobs 10-11-2011 08:38 AM

Ok so one guy doesn't understand how layaway can work while others do. Then he implies that other people poor for trying to use it as a way to balance their hobby out with their budgets.

Layaway won't affect scalping, especially since WalMart has a generous return policy and will take anything back within a 60 day window, along with a receipt provided of course.
