Workstation/Hobby Bench
 

Hey everyone, Im new to the hobby and am planning on building a workstation/hobby bench for all my supplies. Just wanted to have your input on what stuff you guys use and the layout of your stations. Pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the site, every good work stations needs 3 main areas, 1 is sculpting work/modification area where you sculpt on detail or take it away by sanding/drilling/cutting. The second is a finishing station, all your sanding and fine tuning, and lastly a painting station to finish the work, and then seal it with a coat of clear coat.

Supplies that help are: scalpel, scissors, knives, sanding blocks, super glue, paint, stock up on base colors like black,white,red and then suppliment the rest when you feel it's needed. Good brushes, doesn't have to $100 brushes but $1 brushes suck and usually leave bristles on your work. You can find those premade work-desks at homedepot for like $100-200, probably best thing to buy, it's meant to get beaten up and take abuse, you buy a $300 desk and get paint on it you'll be pissed. Good quality chair with lumbar support if you're painting details for 2-3hrs comfy chair is a must. You can pick up the lazy susanne type caddies which house all your tools, and you can also use a scale for making sure your clay pieces are same size, and cutting boards with measurements drawn on. Foam sheets work awesome. the best thing to do would be go to jin saotome's website and read a bunch of his start up tutorials.

Get a cutting mat! Really saves the table and is "self healing" so it remains very smooth to work on.
