Sword Spike Thor

Sword Spike Thor is a flawed figure with a completely unnecessary accessory, but a figure that I like a lot anyway.

It has one of the better torso ball-joints I've encountered, which almost offsets the limited hip range! And the current-MU style universal-joint neck, which I wish would become the standard across the board. I also like the sculpt quite well, particularly the armor detail on the arms. Unfortunately, there is the issue of the hip range, and while it is limited it does still allow for some decent poses. The figure also has some pretty thick calves on it, which limit the knees as well. Not that the stiff cape is going to let you do too much with the legs either.

And then there's the big goofy sword, which doesn't do anything worth the space it takes up, and the size of its handgrip is probably the reason Thor can't hold the slimmer grip on Mjolnir worth a damn. Lucky it's got a thong to wrap around his fingers. The open hand looks pretty nice, but without some kind of lightning effect piece that you'd have to crib from a Star Wars figure, it doesn't do much. I'd much rather have had one hand sized to fit the Power Sword, and one to fit the hammer.

Overall I'm pretty fond of it, and I think it'll do fine as my sole movie Thor for now. I do hope the Avengers version improves upon it in some places, however.

Updated with a more detailed summary and a link to the photo gallery. My apologies.

No worries. What you have now is fine and we appreciate the review.

So true. Of all the Thor figures I have with big goofy accessories, only Hogun has one that's actually worth using. His is the best thought-out of the lot on so many levels.
