I'm all for protecting animals (I'm a huge dog lover), but sometimes PETA doesn't know how to choose their battles. This is pretty lame of them.

Yeah I wasnt sure if this would be considered a stupid thread but I just had to share it. I agree omega I think animal and child abusers but this was just dumb to me.

Yeah..Mario was wearing the Tanooki(sp?) suit before PETA was even created. Sometimes those people irritate the shit out of me. They occasionally make a good point about protecting animals but most of the time they come off sounding like know nothing asshats.

Maybe if Nintendo had left the Tanukis big ass balls on the suit, they would have nothing to bitch about.

I can kinda see the angle on this one,whilst PETA are twenty or so years too late,it would seem the tanooki suit WAS inspired by the fur that is brutally removed from the racoon dog,so they do have a point...BUT to say that it gives the impression to kids that wearing fur is fine is a bit of a stretch,people just aren't THAT impressionable,i used to play WH40k, you dont see me donning power armor,revving up a chainsword and massacring innocent civilians......

Yeah... the next thing you know, kids'll start going out and skinning racoons and frogs and wearing them like suits, so they can fly and swim.
And all those poor turtles and mushrooms kids'll start stomping!

...cause everyone knows that if they see it in a videogame, kids'll always immidiately run out and start doing exactly what they saw.
After all the people that got their spines ripped out after Mortal Kombat came out, all the people who had blue fireballs shot at them because of Ken and Ryu... and all the dead hookers 8 and ten year olds started slaying thanks to GTA... oh goddess all the dead hookers...
Will we never learn?!? Will we as a society never learn that videogames are evil, and every single thing put into a videogame is an instruction to the nearest ten year old to run out and do it too?

WILL NOBODY THINK OF THE MUSHROOMS?!? WILL NO ONE PROTECT ALL THE INNOCENT MUSHROOMS, STARMEN AND FIREFLOWERS?!?

I saw the yahoo article about this. I agree, the folks at PETA need something else better to do. What did mario ever do to them. I don't see kids trying to eat mushrooms to grow bigger (they do for other reasons), catch leafs to fly, wear frogs to swim, eat flowers to throw fire, etc. I hate PETA.

When I read the initial story, I started laughing at the ludicrousness of it all. Then I saw the follow-up and began laughing again.

I think Nintendo should add a line to the end-credits of all future Mario games that says "No Mushroom Kingdom creatures were harmed in the making of this game."
