Comics for Toys?

So I've been spending too much on the remaining holes in my collection, trying to get as complete as possible as soon as possible, and I could use an influx of cash.

Long story short, back when I was first starting to read the Walking Dead, it was around issue 2 or 3, and I loved it so much so fast that I went back and bought two #1's. This past SDCC, I met Robert Kirkman and got him to sign them both, along with my Volume 1 hardcover.

I've noticed that Walking Dead #1 first printing goes for a lot of money on the evilBay these days.

What do you all think about selling one of the #1's? I realize that it's completely possible that having an un-verified signature on the cover could actually REDUCE the price, but still, a couple hundred bucks could go a LONG way this time of year.

What are your thoughts?

For inspiration, I took a picture:

i'd say yea. if u really think u can get some cash for a signed #1 and u have another one then its got going to hurt to atleast see if u can sell it

What he said^ if you had only 1, I'd say hang on to it as you are obviously a big fan, plus you had a physical interaction which adds sentimental value. Honestly you have 2, so selling 1 still leaves you with 1, and you said you want $$ to spend on toys, so why not. I will say having spent a few mins on ebay scooping similiar items, you'd make more $$ if you got the comics graded, if you got both graded keep the better graded 1 for yourself and sell the other lol. but other people do have autographed copies as well, and some by multiple ppl, so possibly wait for a few of these similiar auctions to sell and the put yours up. good luck either way.

Since when was the Walking Dead a part of Marvel?

Thanks!

I've thought about grading, but the signature will only count against the grade because there wasn't a CGC rep present when the signature was made. Plus, the CGC is SO far behind in grading, it's insane. I submitted an X-Men #19 signed by Stan Lee back in JUNE, and it's still not back in my hands!

I think you should sell your toys and buy a 3rd #1 issue of the Walking Dead.

I'd say go ahead and sell one of them off. It's already been clearly stated, but you have two. Two is nice... but I'd say one and action figure money is better. Ebay might be a difficult thing to use though, for reasons Behindthemask pointed out. Know of any comic book fanatics in your local area? If not you should get with your LCS, they may know someone that would be interested and might hook you up. Or at least point you in the right direction.

Back in the late 90's I just threw away all my comics in the dumpster... I only had like 40 or so I think though... and not too many good stuff left after I sold whatever good comics I could just to buy the game Star Wars: Dark Forces for the PC in the mid 90's. LOL.

Disrup 12-10-2011 10:40 PM

Sell it! It will make your one and only issue more special and valuable to you!

Fedup23 12-11-2011 09:44 AM

Destroy one of them..burn it ..shred it, whatever.. your remaining copy will become just a little bit more hard to find.. boom.. profit!!!

...sounded good to me.... hahaha

Based on what I normally see at a toy vs. comic shop, toys seem to be worth more in the end. Use the money from what you sell from the comic to go towards MU or whatever. In todays market there are WAY WAY WAY too many damn collectors still hording whatever #1's come out looking for profit that rarely if ever comes.
