Figure Oh! scans of Macross F 1/60 DX & VF100s toys

TOY-WORLD.COM.HK has posted scans of the Macross Frontier article from Figure Oh! magazine. These scans contain new images of the DX 1/60 & VF100s 1/100 scale VF-25 toys, including prototypes.

GogDog 11-24-2008 07:17 PM

Hehe, I LOVE the pic of Kawamori with all the VFs on his desk. :)

Yeah man, he seems to be having a lot of fun.

QuinJester 11-25-2008 07:11 AM

The guy builds test Valks out of legos; He strikes me as the kind of guy who'd have fun with his toys.

Are the 1/100s any good? I seen that theres 1/72s as well, how are they? I'd like to get at least one of these from the Macross Frontier series sometime next year, when I have the money.

The only VF-25 out right now comes in the form of the 1/72 model kits, I heard the quality is about the same as a Master Grade Gundam model. The 1/100 won't be out until february. The 1/00 features parts swap transformation, while the DX has perfect transformation(no parts removal needed for transformation).

If you want something that looks great, want to save money, but don't want to build a model, the 1/100(VF100s line) is good for you.

I am going to pick up the 1/100 Roy VF-1S and strike parts.
It is fun to handle, however be careful with the hinges, and any other joint with pins in them, as some of them have cracked on mine. Bandai will most likely be making a VF100s 1/100 VF-1 of their own next year, and I anticipate how it will turn out. I won't be surprised if it needs parts swapping for transformation(I actually hope there is none required honestly), however I think it will be the most accurate 1/100 VF-1 toy.

plowking 11-25-2008 03:49 PM

YAY!!...more 1/100ths!!

I just ordered all of the older ones, save for Roy Fokker...the eBay seller was all out of those, but I did pre-order that set on BBTS, and that has Roy and a Ben Dixon in it too. And I got Fast packs coming for them also....

These will actually be my first go at any Veritechs except for my SD Veritech and Alpha Morphers...I love those little dudes :)

Hopefully these 1/100ths will bring me the same joy.

eriku 11-26-2008 08:50 AM

Love all those transformation pics. The VF-25 looks just fine mixed in with all of those Yammies. Can't wait to get my hands on the Alto that I have preordered. I really hope the brand does well for Bandai so they are encouraged to keep making more for years to come.

Same here, I eventually want to see DX 1/60 versions of the Macross 7 toys, as well as the VF-171! I'd love to see Alto's VF-171EX at some point. Short lived, but awesome(even if he himself didn't like it much)!

eriku 11-26-2008 09:11 AM

Any variation of the VF-171, VF-17 and YF-19 (either from 7 or +) is what I'd most like to see. Yamato's 19 is beautiful, but I know Bandai could easily make it more solid and an overall less frustrating toy.

I'd like a sleeker 19, less, or even no gullet, ratchets ALL OVER THE PLACE, and a more anime accurate battroid mode. I love how it looks in the anime. It is difficult to pull off, but the way companies have constantly improved in faster rates than years before, I think it can be done, eventually.

The Macross 7 license is hard to get because Bandai has always had it. I hope the DX line starts with Frontier, but branches out to other Macross series. Hell I know Macross II isn't popular in japan but a DX VF-2SS w/SAP would be AWESOME! Think of the Bandai SOC quality, w/stand, even mini stands for the SAPs to dock onto...oh man...

Even a DX VF-2JA and Metal Siren, I know I am in the minority but I actually love those designs.

If anything a lot of the valks I mentioned were hinted at on the ad for the VF100s when that line was first announced. I think a VF-1 is inevitable, but what I am most excited for are the Macross 7 and II valks.

eriku 11-26-2008 10:08 AM

A VF-2SS would definitely be awesome. I'd take one at either the 1/60 or 1/100 scale. The main thing I hope for the 1/100 line is that they don't resort to partsforming for everything. I know Bandai has the ability to make these things all PT. 1/100 isn't THAT tiny of a scale. Cost may be the main issue. Perhaps PT would push the cost beyond what they want. In any case, my fingers are crossed for whatever birds lay beyond the VF-25!

QuinJester 11-26-2008 12:08 PM

An interesting note is that Kawamori expressed a specific interest in the interviews in a VF-9 figure;

For those unfamiliar with the VF-9 (which is 99% of your I'm sure, I didn't know about it myself until I heard about this), it was not originally meant to be a Macross design, but Kawamori shoehorned it into canon after it was rejected from another project. I guess he really likes it.

General Galaxy VF-9 Cutlass

The transformation looks pretty ridiculous.

plowking 11-26-2008 12:53 PM

Its a Conehead!!....:)

I like it....looks pretty friggin cool in Battroid mode.

Optimus Scourge 11-26-2008 01:02 PM

Yeah, that VF-9 looks wicked!

I wonder which company could take the license for that one though. I hope it is Bandai, they are known for making toys of fan favorite, but obscure designs. Take their Gundam line for example, and the many, many derivatives of the RX-78. I for one like the fact that they do that, it gives us more variety and does justice to designs that might not otherwise be done justice to.

It has the most unique transformation of anything I've seen, in a way it shows progression with regards to his design. Plus, it is the first F-16 derived valkyrie design(that and the X-29).

Agreed. I really hope that Bandai treats the VF100s line like their GFF line. In terms of variety and commitment that is.

Or perhaps that unique General Dynamics FSW F-16 proposal (pic attached). I'm sure this concept art also inspired the GI Joe X-30 Conquest.

Oh heck yea. The FIX line itself has offshoots, such as the diecast FIX's, which I've heard are great.

Could be, I don't remember my hirogana/katakana well, but I do remember in Design works that the F-16 is mentioned in the description for the VF-9. The Conquest was definitely influenced by the X-29, the FSW F-16 could've been an influence too.

I'd wait man, I'm still trying to find out the exact cause of the hinge breakages, as well as if the materials have really been changed or not on the latest releases. The 1J is hard to resist....

I know. I'd be miffed to get an inferior version if a new one comes around.

I just have not got any new Macross toys (not counting the Revoltech) since I got my Yamato 1/48 Roy a couple years ago

If price were not an issue, I would get another 1/48 to make MP Jetfire. Don't think it will happen, unless I can get one used or something on the cheap.

Can some of the old kitbashing and customizing tricks be used to remedy the floppiness of these joints?....what about the cracking joints?
For the 1/60 VF-1S Roy it is very hard to do this, as hammering out the pin would probably end up stressing the hinge more, resulting in breakage.

thats a bummer :(

Shin Densetsu 11-29-2008 02:31 PM

I am itching to see more of Bandai's VF100s 1/100 scale line. They made the battroid mode look awesome, and very articulated. I hope that only the valks at that smaller size that need parts swapping for transformation utilize that method, or even then keep parts swapping to a minimum. At that smaller size it is easier to lose pieces. I would like a stand that could store all the swappable pieces somewhere too.

Being that the closest line to this is Bandai's HCMpro line for Gundam(and other properties such as Evangelion), I would not be surprised of the VF100s line ends up utilizing similar aspects, such as stands that have mini stands for support pieces, such as drones and missles/trails. I think it is a given that we will see the VF-1 at some point, and I am actually excited for that(the VF-1 is one design I find it hard to get tired of).
