Captain America

I have picked up the new series and the first arc is over. I am curious about where it is going from here. I don't read previews (and sometimes they have nothing to really say anyway) has anyone heard rumors? Is it going to get better than it is now? It started off high but I felt as if after issue 2 it kind of lost focus and what they told in five could have been done in four. Any thoughts?

CLASSIFIED 01-02-2012 08:50 PM

I didn't finish the first arc cuz I hated it, but the next arc is drawn by Alan Davis and the villian is Machinesmith so that means it will be awesome.

Kaewin 01-02-2012 09:24 PM

I was thinking of sticking it out for one more arc as I left feeling not sure of the book. I do hope it is much better but it has two issues and then it is gone.

Jason Abbadon 01-02-2012 09:54 PM

My roommmate gets it, but I'm unimpressed- the old "depower Cap" thing has been done sooo many times already.

bmorr 01-02-2012 10:19 PM

Are we talking about the captain america current series right now at issue 6? Or Captain America + Bucky? Cause both are pretty much lame. Winter Soldier #1 is gonna own both titles immediately i believe. Im still Waiting for CA to catch up with regular continuity and im dropping CA+B.

Kaewin 01-03-2012 04:59 PM

I didn't pick it up. I just hope that the regular series gets better. Some of the old stuff really rocked but this series is lame. I have dropped Thor and this might be the next to go.

bmorr 01-03-2012 05:21 PM

which Thor? Journey into Mystery or Mighty Thor?

The one at issue 6.
Not even the awesome of Alan Davis can make it good.

I haven't read it yet, don't spoil it for me.

Cap de-powered? Does he become a skinny weakling again?

bmorr 01-03-2012 07:41 PM

Your not missing much of anything, trust me. It seems that.....ah never mind. You said not to spoil it.

Go for it!

bmorr 01-03-2012 07:56 PM

ok, issue 6 ends this arc and the title gets back to regular continuity.(5+6 came out the same week to wrap up the story). So basically brubaker went and invented some new characters that supposedly fought with cap in world war 2.This one fella, Bravo, is like identical to cap, and jimmy jupiter whos power is DREAMS!!!Fuck. ok, so somehow bravo, some soldiers, and hydra goons get trapped in jimmys mind and the kid lands in a coma, during wartime. So theyre in there for 70 some odd years. They get out and hatch a scheme to change the world via jimmys dream reality. Bravo gets his ass kicked, Hydra escapes and typical comic open ending ensues. This is a retarded story and I dont know why I took the time to write this all out. Im bored.

Jason Abbadon 01-03-2012 07:59 PM

The bad guys have a device that negates the Vita rays in Steve's body, rendering the Super Soldier Sereun inert.

And yeah, he de-hulks.
Its the same exact story Bru already did in the last Steve Rogers miniseries and even that was ripped from Gruenwald and that from De Mattis.

Shit's been done.

Brubaker's standard stpry always follows the same plot-starting with flashbacks to WWII, Bru retconns in some new charcaters or bings some back, while setting up a coorelation with current events, then the old stuff becomes the new threat for Steve to fight...yawn.

He did it with Bucky, the Red Skull, some ghost character Bucky fought with Namor, and with Cap, of course. At least four storylines with the same gag.

Everything always involves WWII- I guess Bru never read any of the 40 plus years of Cap with the Avengers so I guess there's nothing else to draw from by way of villians.

It's the same stupid plot with the Black Widow every time- " A mysterious threat from her past is out to destroy her future!"

Fuck's sake.

Oh yeah, I agree, that story did suck. I thought you were talking about the one Jason is about to re cap...

No shit, huh?

I was thinking of that Super Soldier story when you mentioned Steve got de powered. But wasn't Machine-smith in both stories and might this new story just be a sequel?

Kaewin 01-04-2012 01:38 PM

He gets depowered in the new issue? Jesus Christ I know there are very few new ideas but damn the Skull did that back in the mid eighties. I think I am done.

bmorr It was the new Thor I didn't follow back into Journey.

I dont recall Machinesmith in this new issue in any way- just thos new Hydra, which pisses me off no end after Hickman spent two years breaking Hydra's back for Brubaker to suddenly make it all kinda for nothing.

Nick still capped Strucker though.

That was worth it all for that page.

im sorry man, i dont understand the last sentence there.

Jason Abbadon 01-04-2012 02:16 PM

Journey Into Mystery- and it's one of marvel's very best books.

Really, you should pick that shit up- it's amazing. Great art and the best stories Marvel has going.
Young Loki rocks!

bmorr 01-04-2012 02:19 PM

i have been reading both. I was referring to his confusing sentence.....

Jason Abbadon 01-04-2012 02:42 PM

Yeah well....I do that too sometimes.

MARVEL's BEST BOOKS:
X-Force
Journey Into Mystery
Punisher
Daredevil
Venom

Everything else is pretty hit or miss, but spending $20 on those five titles each month is well worth it.

I haven't read it yet, but I could have sworn I saw Machine Smith drawn by Davis in refference to this arc. Maybe it was in "Previews" when I was flipping through it at my LCS.

I used to like Journey too, but stopped getting it durring Fear Itself for some reason.

Jason Abbadon 01-05-2012 07:15 PM

The Journey stuff was the only really great thing about the Fear stories- Loki running around and making deal to set forces against the Serpent..and all so his brother could die to save everyone.
At the end, they really made it clear that Loki loves the hell out of his brother, but did what Thor would have done (were he not in a dungeon).

Oh, and we see the Lion of Asgard himself animate (the stolen by Loki) Destroyer armor to fight the Serpent's forces!
Yes, mighty Volstagg goes ass kicking!

bmorr 01-05-2012 07:38 PM

well at least thor will be back within like a month if(will( kill) the demigorge). im not liking tanarus one. damn. bit. Im lovin' mighty thor tho. Silver Surfer with pants lol. And I like that tiny,(taking too long to end) subplot with Bill, the broxton guy. Also, i find it interesting that this stopped being a cap thread cause the stories right now are so bad.

Yeah- the art is incredible in thte first arc but painful to read- any diversion is worthwhile!

Makes me wanna break out my DeMattis/Zeck Cap comics from the 1980's- back when Cap was not only super badass, but inspirational.
Now he's just another costumed guy among many....though I loe the hell out of his movie!
They got it so right there- why not in his comic?

bmorr 01-06-2012 06:10 AM

cause mutliple world ending events in 8 years tend to burn a guy out. That or bendis killed his patriotism.
